I'm not sure if the aloe powder contains the latex part and it's effects on plants but I was really hoping I would be able to get by without it because of costs and possibly loss of good stuff from fresh aloe once turned into powder... but since it's way less of a hassle with the powder I'm thinking of purchasing it just hope none of the good stuff is lost throughout processing...
OrganicLearner

The majority of retail aloe vera products are made with rehydrated aloe vera powder which is available in two forms: spray-dried and freeze-dried.

Spray-drying - described here

Freeze-drying - described here

Generally, the bulk of spray-dried powders are from Mexico and China and the freeze-dried powders are from Australia. Exceptions on both however.

Fresh is best but not always an option or practical. It's pretty easy to find organic, pharmaceutical-grade Australian freeze-dried powder. A full kilogram is $250.00 which makes either 50 or 55 gallons so that's around $5.00 per gallon of straight organic aloe vera juice. The liquid organic products (Lily of The Desert) run $25.00 - $30.00 per gallon.

So if one can't grow this plant then the powders are worth looking at.

40 ppm of silicon (as Si02).
19 ppm of potassium (as K20)
That is the standard ratio of Silica & Soluble Potash in Potassium Silicate. Now you'll need someone that can give you the mixing numbers to some close to Pro-TeKt.

This product is the real deal......

Dyna-Gro distributor in England - OrchidAccessories.co.uk

Pro-TeKt link

Orchid growers make up the bulk of Dyna Gro's customers worldwide. It's almost weird how much of the orchid market that they control

Rhino Skin is a joke like AN's other products. About as pitiful as it gets......

The "PotSil" from ebay that you linked is a little bit more concentrated than dynagro protekt.

...............PotSil.............Protekt
K20............5.7%..............3.7%
SIO2..........11.4%.............7.8%

As Coot pointed out they have the same SiO2:K2O weight ratio 2.1

so use .66 of Coots Protekt reccomendation when using the PotSil.

So for example if the protekt rec is 5 mL, then use 3.3 mL of the PotSil.

Hi Coot,

I was wondering why you have a preference for freeze-dried over spray-dried? Does this have to do with the processing, or is it merely a convenient indicator of the quality, since most freeze-dried come from reputable Australian sources?

I have some spray-dried that states its origin in the USA. Aloe Barbadensis, which I am not sure is identical to Aloe Vera.

Thanks!

paid for the plant and pocketed the seeds...

Here in ROLS county we only advocate stealing from Hydro Heaven Enterprises and Big Agro Inc. and the fictitious dreamers in Hollywood Hell who are relatives of the other two.

Shame on you!
