Great thread... I have always wondered about this, but have never tried it....

Just currious...

How many worms per gallon of soil?

Wil miricle grow soil or ferts hurt them?

PEACE

MG is a salt fert and salts are not very popular with worms, they breathe through their skin if I remember correctly and salt messed with their skin.

I wouldn`t bother adding worms to my soil, if they are there then fine but otherwise start a wormbin.

I see them getting too hot and dying, then rotting and stinking in the bottom of your pot.

I have not counted the worms just noticed them when digging around for my pre bloom PH tests.

I have heard from a few growers that this is definitely possible indoors. I have yet to try it out myself because I normally don't use bone or blood meal.

Bone meal is one of those foods that takes earthworms a while to break down from what I understand. I have heard this along with - kelp meal, seaweed meal, and dolemite lime (grit; to help them digest) is enough food to last them for veg/flowering. I'd love to hear the flintstoners or anyone else with positive success has to say.

SOLO-Yes MG or any salt fert for that matter will harm the worms or even kill them all together.Adding them is only gonna work if you are TRULY organic otherwise dont bother.DEFT-Yes as I mentioned before sometimes the worms perish but this is actually a plus.Dead worms are one of the best sources for available nitrogen and micronutrients that can be found. So them dying and stinkin in the pots could and would be a plus. And finally SCAYBEEZ-It is not imperitive that you use Blood or Bone Meal when doing this one could use just about any combo of good high grade organic nutrients to feed the soil and worms. They do indeed love kelp meal and the only thing really necessary is a gritty substance such as green sand is added as it is great for the worms digestion and also a steady long lasting source of all natural Potassium.Kind of a win,win situation.Hope this helps yall, god love our little worm helpers.Anything the worms like,I like.

I sacrificed 1 healthy plant for the sake of science approx 30 to 30 worms per gallon.

Wow never really went with specific numbers but that is the amount Id usually throw in a whole 30 gallon rubbermaid tub.Not to say you over did it by any means you may be onto somthing huge who knows but they say the beasties can only equal the foodsource and worms are just a big beastie you can actually see so uhhhh...well see how this goes.Keep us posted,Im guessing alot of em will escape out the holes and only the amount that the soil can sustain will stay inside.Heck if that happens count how many hang out and you will have scientifically answered your question.

Here is the final on that worm debate. This is by no means scientific. The plants with the worms did not do as well. These plants being clones are a pretty good test group.I was on the worms side and wanted them to win.

i just added some fatties it was crazy watching them dig there way into the earth. I love science. Some would dip out side the bed then crawl back in. their quite smart.

I was just reading about recycling and rebuilding soil. I made a homebrew soil washer and such... After reading this, I think that I am going to start adding in fresh worms into my formula.
If I put them into the main piles, they would have lots of time to do whatever until the soil was placed into growbags and used. This is a good thread, got me thinking and I will do some research. Hope folks with experiments going will continue to post results.
Do the worm.
