Little Plastic Baggies To Be Banned?

A new front in the war on drugs. hehe.
I can just see Chicago's drug sales dropping to zero because they don't have anything to put them in.

What the hell are these people thinking?

Chicagoist.com

The latest weapon in Chicago's war on drugs may be banning the little plastic bags some drugs come in. No, really. Alderman Robert Fioretti wants to restrict the sale of "self-sealing plastic bags under two inches in either height or width."

Apparently only one alderman on the Health Committee found anything remotely strange about this ban. "I just want to make sure that we don’t — how do you say it — bite off your head in spite of your nose," said Alderman Walter Burnett.

Lots of stuff comes in those little bags. Jewelry, if we recall correctly the elastic bands that go on braces, buttons, small crafts, bathsalt sample packs, just to name a few. The law would fine vendors who sell baggies when "one reasonably should know" that the bags are being used for drug-selling purposes.

This is a proud day for Chicago politics indeed. Because we all know there's nothing
like a difficult-to-enforce, bullshit law that relies on things people "reasonably should know" to keep drugs off the streets.

to bad coke dealers can buy like 1000 regular no seal for like a dollar at the dollar store, then rip the corners and get 2 per bag. Or just use balloons. Doesnt sound like that will help much

That's funny what they gonna do next ban chore boy & cigarette rolling papers,, lol what they gonna arrest you for illegal plastic.. what will they think of next wow :D

haha , round here there is both kinds , but most folks use a regular sandwich baggie and tie it in a knot, i hate that(because i have no nails ) but this new guy i get weed from ties his in a way that you just pull the end and it unties , kind of like a knot you tie on a rope on the back of your truck, heck , sometimes its off the scale and into your hand and you got to do with it what you will

I don't buy weed anymore, but from where I'm from, small plastic bags often meant low quality weed. The good stuff was almost always in those small, clear plastic containers with a little lid on top.

Way to go! I hate getting ripped off with those tiny sized bags, anyway.

But really, if they think this will stop anything, they are dumb. I mean DUMB. At least when it comes to drug policy, anyway.

People still buy grams?

Yeah. I know the local hustlers usually push slack bags. It'll end up being like $5-$15 per bag and it's usually the little 1x1 or 2x2 baggies and there not even filled up/fat. Probably no more than 1.5g at most. Not even dank stuff, either. A lot of people buy this stuff. Usually found in the scarier parts of town or street corner type deals. Most people don't bother to complain because the bud flow is usually pretty reliable (though sometimes risky or potentially dangerous) and arguing really wouldn't get you anywhere, anyway. Either you want it or you don't.

Sometimes, if I don't have a lot of cash on me or don't want to spend a lot but catch a buzz, I can bum by the gram from my friends. Usually like $15/gram or so but it's good bud. I mean, hell, a teenth isn't even a full two grams but they're sold by many for $20-30.

Also, yeah, the smaller baggies are very commonly used for crack, cocaine and other serious drugs but they can always be put in something else. It still isn't a solution.

Follow up ban on shoes

Follow up ban on shoes

I just read they will also be banning shoes as they found that most people arrested for selling drugs were wearing them.

this doesnt seem liek anything about stopping drugs, its jsut another excuse for cops and the like to give you a search and maybe make some moeney

hey some small bags, those are illegal, now we can search him

just like the damn seatbelt laws
no seatbelt, well now the cops get a chance to come up to your car and poke around and then ticket you too! great....

didint illinois also ban empty gel caps?

whats next though, cellophane? thats the most common shit i usually see
someones smoking some cigs....theres always celly around

If I sold drugs I would put them in aldermans. Lets see if they move to ban themselves.

is it making the baggies illegal, or making it illegal to sell them in stores. I think the article says that its just the store. If they did make them illegal, im sure it wouldnt really matter anyways because usually if a cop wants to search you he can and if you have a baggie, how often do you have it without anything in it illegal

Cool, now there'll be a black market in baggie sales. :) More opportunities for the free market.
