hey arthur
adding lime is never a bad idea as it will prevent huge pH swings (mix is NOT going to stay at 6-6.5 the whole grow if nothing added) and also slow releases Mg and Ca. Cannabis loves Mg more than most plants so there is usually not enough in just regular ferts. BUT do not use hydrated lime, look for powdered dolomite lime or horticultural lime (same thing different name). good luck.

Powdered dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.

Use dolomite lime (Calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate) when preparing the soil, make sure to mix it in, it helps buffer the PH over a long time, especially good when using chemical nutes.

Hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide) is more water soluble, better for quick PH fixes, but not good in the long run because it will get flushed out of the soil over time and can push the PH too high.

I use hydrated lime in my saltwater reef tank, it's a source of Calcium and great buffer for maintaining a PH of 8.2.

ok ive ordered some dolomite lime, a rooting hormone, and some calcium nitrate. i hope this will be ok. ive also just ordered some bio bizz grow nutrient for my bio bizz soil and some bio bizz nutrient additive. hopefully this all is ok. i understand i shudnt give my seedlings anything until about 4 weeks old right? ill give rooting hormone while planted and shud i use anything else once the sprout breaks the surface, shud i carry on using the hormone? thanks for the replys, very helpful :)

That is right, it is easy to burn the little seedlings with too much fertlizer, I usually wait for the plants to tell me it's time to fertlilize...yellowing bottom leaves. It is harder to fix over-fertilizing than under-fertilizing.

I have never tried using rooting hormone on seeds/seedlings, only on clones.
You ordered the Biobizz Grow (8-2-6), should be good for veg,
did you order the bloom (2-6-3.5)too? would be good for flowering.
I am not sure why you ordered the calcium nitrate? (15-0-0) Foliar feeding maybe?

I believe in the "less is better" strategy when growing. Let nature do some of the work.

Hope this helped a little.
