legality of this cops procedure

i get pulled over tonight because apparantly i have no lights going over my license plate on the back of the car. he let me off with a "warning" woopty doo you fucking pig. well it was funny because at first he was going to say "driving without a license" he kinda mumbled it real fast and then changed his story. crooked ass cops. i hate when they do shit like this.

Probably meant driving without a visible liscense plate..but I'm aftraid he's right.
There's a reason that almost all makes/models have lights right by the liscense plate.
Not 100% sure on the legality, but I'm pretty sure you need them.

It is a law in all states and most people dont know it. If you are going to be carrying anything or doing something against the law, check all of your lights before hand, lol....

Before I go anywhere....I check all of my lights and turn signals AND license plate lights. Like a pre-flight check before taking the plane up. Never know it might save you life one day or atleast keep your ass out of jail for a .97 cent bulb.

you're questioning the legality of his letting you off with a warning? i don't get it...

if you're thinking that he did something illegal by pulling you over you're wrong. they can pull you over for whatever reason they want and it's their word against yours...

yep yep do it just have a buddy or whatever check your lights once and awhile or do it yourself or else the man has a reason to refer your disobedient ass to his parasite masters.

man its people like you that make people like me lose hope in the world. you act like your OKAY WITH THAT! they shouldnt be able to pull you over for any reason they want. they should be protecting us and serving us WHEN WE ASK FOR IT. they work for us. they shouldnt be working us.

There you have it: idealism and pragmatism colliding head-on. I SERIOUSLY doubt that BlueSky is OK with that; I'm certainly not. To deny that reality for the sake of ideals, however, can have disastrous consequences. Pointing out a situation hardly amounts to an endorsement. There SHOULD be far more control of dirty cops (a family member who is a police officer now works in Internal Affairs, and that makes me proud, since he's now after crooked cops. The fact that he's also busier than he's ever been is a disheartening statement on the low quality of some cops.) Your stop was perfectly legal, though.

I think the cop was patiently waiting for you to ask him to pull you over for a burnt bulb. When he became impatient and realized you may have burned one and simply spaced asking him to pull you over. He took it upon himself to pull you over and then let you off with a "Warning." Pretty good initiative on his part! I'll bet he was scared shitless you'd report him for not waiting for you to ask for him to serve you!

Don't piss them off b/c I'll tell you like a cop told me

You're lucky.. I got a ticket for that once (during the day). Along with 'no passenger side windshield wiper' this is in the middle of the summer.. 'too low, windows over tinted, and straight exhaust.'

If they want to get you they will..

Do we think it's justified? No. But it's the law. Most of us are already breaking enough laws to the point where we need to abide by certain laws so we don't get caught breaking the others.

Protect ya neck.

around here its cya. cover your ass.ya i try to cover my ass to the best of my knowledge. its just i never knew you need an actual light on your license plate. oh well im gettin a newer car anyways this is a piece of shit.

I do not know about ya'll, but in Texas they passed a law in which you can not have any license plate covers, borders or pictures covering your license plate. This means, if you have one of those nifty little borders around your plate, such as the "I'm a Bitch", "A&M Aggie and proud" or even a "Jeff Haas Mazda" one, you could be screwed. If ANY of the writing on your plate is covered, they will nail your ass. If part of Texas is covered up, not even the numbers and letters, they can still get ya. Any writing at all, if it is covered, you get a stiff fine. I have seen it enforced too.
Also, you are legally not allowed to have anything hanging or dangling from your rear view mirror. No crosses, no cds, no little Puerto Rican flags, nothing. Personally I am all for that, they are hazardous. Taking a turn one time, my friend's dad got something wrapped around his steering wheel, that was a bit hairy.
I have been pulled over for not having my license lit. I really do not see what the big deal is reefermadness...as long as he let ya go. It is a perfectly sound and reasonable law. Just because he was doing his job does not make him a Nazi or an asshole. Just another cop.

Yup, brush up on your states laws and 'shape up and fly straight'. No pot stickers, no 420 crap, no band stickers if you can help it, no political stickers (you're just asking for it). Keep some spare brake lights / blinker lights / whatever handy and the tools you need to fix them if one goes out. When you find a bad light, and they do go out, replace BOTH. If one goes out you can bet the other isn't far behind. (peace of mind)

We've all seen the show cops right? Almost every single chase or arrest starts with a vehicle code infraction or something stupid like not using your blinker or no coming to a complete stop (California stop).

Trust me, like you’ve seen I use to be ‘that guy’ with the fast fast car with all the mods. Every freaking cop in the area knew me and was dieing to arrest me. It really sucks when they pull you over just about every time you leave your house and do a full inspection every time. They’d check the hand break, the horn, everything.

Anyhow, I got sick of all the ‘attention’ and moved on to slower more functional (modern camouflage) car with no stickers, no visible or audible mods it’s a ‘sleeper’. No more problems and it feels great. I’ll pull right in front of a cop and wave. lol :D
