Left on the “vine” for months

So I had this one plant that was harvested and was not my best plant so I just left it in my basement hanging ignoring it daily. So like 3 months go by, the stash gets low so I resorted to the neglected plant. Grabbed the trim bowl and went to town...... WTF??!!
This plant is STICKY, moist and flavorful! The buds after trimming were a vibrant color, not starting to “bronze” like 4 month bud starts to turn.
This is not the first time this has unintentionally happened, this happened another time with some Strawberry Cough, I trimmed the big buds and left the smaller mugs and larf on the plant for MONTHS, then when I got low I went back to pluck off some smalls and they were as tasty as the big nugs that were cut, trimmed and cured!
Has anyone experienced leaving buds on the vine for months on end indoors?

Yes, I have many times because I love those aged tops. I have one left hanging just for that reason. It takes time for plant chemistry to complete its conversion. I have dug up weed that was buried in the ground for 3 months in bags that have completed their conversion. All I could say was, HOLY SMOKES DAMN.

I did that with a branch of my outdoor harvest this fall. It was hiding behind the tent flap and I missed a branch when I did the trimming. So it hung in my drying tent for a couple of months before I noticed it.

The herb was kind of like a flashback to what the rest of the plant was just after harvest, before there was any curing. Good terps and effects but it was also really, really dry though. Ambient humidity here is like 30% or so. It was not fun to smoke/vape because of how dry it was. When I added some moisture to get it less dry, it became not as good as the stuff I dried and cured normally. Wound up turning it into tincture.

I left some small buds on my outdoor this year. Didn't go out to pick them until the first snow. So about 40-55 days after I harvested the rest. They were purple almost black from the cold, very stinky and resinous. It was 3 or four diff strains. They were all very narcotic and sleep inducing from being so late

In the old days, a person's prison sentence was given according to the amount of weed they got busted with and how many times they were busted. So, it was very important to keep the weed stashed far away from where one lived. Back then there were a lot of old abandoned barns due to farmers going bust in the area. At the end of the growing season, I would take my harvested weed and bury the weed inside the abandoned barns. Since the barns had a roof the weed stayed dry in bags. I dug holes in the dirt floors and put my weed in there covered them up and laid big boards over top and scattered dirt over the boards and if anyone moved the board I would see the dirt was moved. When I got low on weed I would go the the barn at night and dig up some weed on my bicycle. Did it for years.

I want to share a strange cannabis mystery I ran into during 55 years of growing cannabis mostly in secret, I ran into a strange phenomenon that blew everyone's mind. A few people accused me of lacing the weed with bug spray. Another rumor was the weed got dusted by angels. When smoked it was 2 or 5 times stronger than the same weed smoked originally. It kept happening over and over year after year and I didn't know why.

At some point, the weed would stand out under certain conditions more than at other times. I’m experimenting now trying to find the cause and the difference and what causes this phenomenon. I think I know now what the difference is and I’m trying to replicate it. The barn weed went through yo-yo temp swings. Hitting a low in the morning close to freezing and then rising slowly to the warm part and then back to a low repeatedly. The temperature can swing 40 to 60 degrees in a single day for months. The regular weed in storage temps stays stable and is the same during storage where the barn yo-yo s.

I started an experiment on Jan 28th and plan on running til the high temps reach 90f or 32c. I put 4 jars of weed in 2 shoe boxes and put the shoe boxes in a large box. I made sure there was plenty of space inside the big box to allow temperatures to moderate. Then I covered the box with a folded tarp and put the whole package under a tarp. The experiment is to mimic conditions of being buried underground. I checked the temps before the start to make sure the swings would be the same as they were buried.

I used 3 different strains and the weed that was just harvested and freshly died with humidity of 58%. I will open it in May and see if I can mimic the mystery...

This is basically what happened to mine in the basement. Temps and humidity swings, but the smoke was amazing!

Over ripe lowers left on Blue haze, grown at altitude (800m) left out when it started to get cold but before the wet. My best and favorite bud ever. Gave some to friends and they came back Jonesing for more. Told me how jealous his girlfriend had become with his stash, she couldnt get any love.
It felt like turning on a little sun in my chest and being at peace with the world. Buddha style. I had the same feeling with weed (Y griega and Kate Mate) but never with the same smell and taste.

It was my buddies hobby project bud. He had a huge pot with plants vegged up with some seeds he got on a whim (normally everything is indoor) It went out early and already almost 3 feetand grew over the whole season with nothing more than the runoff from indoors. He was sort of meh about it i was only the great appreciator together with some buddys. My buds were harvested maybe 3 weeks after main harvest, i didnt really try the main harvest.

I took one jar out yesterday to see if there is a noticeable difference after 45 days. The temperature swings for those days were 38f low to high 80s. One way to know if the process is effective is the lid will blow off with a loud pressure sound. If the lid blows off the jar, the weed will be changed.

The weed had a nice boost compared to before the storage. I was surprised, but I think it could have stayed longer for an even better boost. I still have 3 more jars left for a later date. The temps are rising in the highest range now from the lowest range. I think that's where the magic happens.

For 45 days I would say the weed had a 25% boost.
I will keep you posted on future jars.
