Hey here is something for you to check out Irish. I think Im going to order this light to supplement my led grow. Its uses UV leds, and the rest are all red, to me it sounds like a pretty good bud stacker when used in conjunction with a full spectrum light.

The cheapest way to add UV to your garden, is by purchasing the 4W, 6W, 9W+ UV tubes available from a ton of online retailers. They look like CFL's, but emit UV. You need 285-315nm anyhow to make a beneficial impact on THC/resin, and LED's in that range cost over $90 a piece, and are made by only 1 company in the world. The UV CFL's cost only $8-$20...

Don't forget to mention that the shorter wavelength UV requires eye and skin protection.

The funny thing is.... LED manufactures are calling 425nm (Ultra violet). If I'm not mistaken 425nm is Far Blue not UV.. I think people will get confused with this type of advertising.. My guess is the company selling these lights must think growers want UV so they put it in there advertising...LOL.. IMO they should be correctly stating that it's Far Blue and not Ultra Violet.. Weez (what's up) did you look at that light botanist85 is talking about? Pretty interesting don't you think...
I've used a CFL UV bulb for years and I don't know if it makes a difference or not. If someone has some definitive biology on this (and not anecdotal - "my buds were killa' potent because of the UV" - evidence) I would like to hear it. I haven't seen anything and I have the lamp (got it at the pet store) and always ran it in the closet grow room under the operating theory it couldn't hurt, but did it really help? Did it make my stuff really that strong? I haven't assayed anything and therefore I can't prove it one way or another. Anyone with some assayed results?
It is always the case as technological advances occur there are improvements.
Just thinking out loud here. Lots to be learned here and this is new territory, but to say that the first lights didn't work at all seems a bit far-fetched. Maybe separate corners should be found and wait for the bell... Goodness, this is an online community and not people in your own home, work or whatever. kwim, vern? Caught my eye, read the thread, looked at the pics, check out the site, and here's my 2 cents
1) Plants look thin and stretchy and need a MAJOR trim job...Chop off all that lower junk and yield should increase SOMEWHAT...Might be strain specific but I'm guessing not...
2) Buds also look airy as hell as well...These are going on week 7 or 8??? Look like week 4 on my C99 and she's a light yielder
3) IMO there is NO WHERE NEAR the canopy penetration of HID's...Lights like these LEDs are be better suited to a micro/super stealth SCROG setup...Anything less than 8-12" below the lights is gonna be popcorn IMO
4) I could get 2 magnetic 400w ballasts ($140 for 2) ,with A/C hoods ($350 for 2) and bulbs ($120 for 2), and a scrubber for the same price as one 318w'er and cat-box it yield wise...Maybe even have some cash left over for a good fan (easily afford a modded Stanley)...
5) Money savings on your electric bill??? 2 400's will run me probably an extra $50-60 a month...Big deal

So how do you make popcorn with LED's? I think HID lamps would be more suited to this as heat is required not light.

If it was debating the weaknesses of LEDS in general, then I can see on pointing out the drawbacks, such as environmental concerns with throwing out a whole LED unit when the 40K operation hours are up as opposed to just replacing a light bulb.
The other points on light penetration are as well valid, however as stated earlier, off-topic.

I have a LED question although I'm not sure if its in the appropriate thread, if not feel free to move it (but clue me in to the redirect? haha).
We have been using 90W pro source LEDs with our aeroponic units with strong results and quick turn over. My question is:
I noticed several of the budding plants (which are 6" or less from the top of the colas), have turned completely white from the LEDs, only the ones very close to the lights have done this, is this an anomoly or regular occurance? While they are incredible looking I'm wonder why this happened and will there be any accompanying negative effects to the strength/yield etc?

your lights are too close and ur bleaching ur buds. i dont know how this will affect ur product? but thats whats happing and why. raise the light a little higher
