for reference I start my seeds in these seed trays and they stay there for about 2 weeks till they're a little bigger than what you have now. then they go to the 4" pots for about 3-4 weeks then their final pots for a week or 4 depending on if there's room in flower tent. then I flip.

transplant to 4" pots with shallow soil

after 3-4 weeks I repot into the same pot.

when those get full of roots then into final containers.

in your situation I would just keep them in the starter blocks and keep the little plastic sleeve on if you use the individually wrapped ones. if not then just keep them moist/wet till you have either an abundance of roots sticking out of all sides or the leaves are bigger. like you really want 3-4 nodes and at least 2 sets of 3 finger leaves before going into a larger block like you use.

you should leave them in the 2inch starter cube till they are almost as big as the plant in the first pic. the leaves collect the light to feed the plant to make it grow. the roots find the water and the minerals to send to the leaves to make the food.

your seedling was too small when you transplanted. now it has an abundance of water at hand, no need to grow roots. since the leaves are small it doesn't have much food at hand to get taller and grow bigger leaves. it can't grow bigger leaves without bigger roots, but it can't grow bigger roots till there's a need to go looking for water.

as above so below.

Ok thank you for the solid advice! Much appreciated. If I start the seedlings out under a t5 in 2" starter cubes, how much development should happen prior to putting them under the final veg light? I'm using a Spectrum King Led 400+.

The roots were coming out of the initial starter cubes pretty thick before I transplanted them but as you stated, the leaf production wasn't significant enough to support the root system in the larger container.

Btw, I'm using the starter cubes that are individually wrapped but was planning on using starter plugs next round started in the grodan smart tray.

I am having a similar problem. My leaves are curling over not under if that makes a difference. I think it is lockout. i really do not think my plant was deficient. It just was not getting the nutrients it should have been getting. i did a flush two days ago and gave it new nutrients and the ph was 5.68 and the ppm's were 582, so i am going to give it a week and make sure i keep up on the Ph and ppm's and it should pull out if not then i do have some sort of def, and i will address it.

They haven't had anything but minimal water and an occasional mist since transplant 5 days ago. Hugo blocks as getting pretty light

Feed them. You're not gonna see any root or leaf growth using plain water. If you don't want to drench them just pour a bit of nute solution over the inserted 1.5" cube. Start with an EC of .6 . You don't want the cube to really dry out cause if it does you begin to kill roots. Believe it or not, you can actually squeeze the water out the blocks if you think you have to much in them. No problem, Been doing it for years.
