Leaves are curling, Could it be over-fert? (Pics Included)

Ok so here is the deal. Plants are approx. 4-5 weeks into veg 6'' tall. Growing in MG soil. I fertilized twice with MG 15-30-15 and SuperThrive half strength and after the second feeding the leaves started to curl downwards. There is really faint yellow spots on the newer top shoot, which i am thinking is fert burn, but i am not so sure about the curling. I am not sure if the curling of the leaves are associated with over-ferting or not and that is why i am here asking for help. So if anyone can take a look at the attached pics and help me identify what is going on, and tell me if i should take any precautions to help solve this, it would be greatly appreciated.....PEACE

P.S ( I forgot to mention that i am growing under 160 watts of fluorescent tubes for 12 hours and under a 400w HPS with cooltube for 12 hours.)

How close to your 400 HPS light do you have these? I don't think over fert will cause them to curl.....but spots yes.
And could you get some more close up pics for us that are a little better in focus? Thanks!

Hey thanks for the reply. My HPS is 6-7 inches away. I wish i could get some more pics but i had to use my cousins camera. I could definitly get some more pics tomarrow though, and sorry about them being out of focus, it was my first time with my cousins camera.

You can see the worst of it in the first pic. i know its not that great of a picture but that is pretty much what it looks like.

C'mon, Somebody has had to experience this before and know what it is, and how to fix it.

Well since nobody wants to help me, which is just totally absurd. Im going to go play some GTA. So if anyone wants to drop me a line about what could be going on feel free to. So peace out and happy toking ; )

Posting every 5 mins isn't going to help :) We are here to help YOU when we can :)

Those are young plants in soil. You should not be feeding them much at all...let alone twice so far. Could be overfert, but it looks a lot like a PH problem to me.

15-30-15 IMO is a bad veg nute as well. If I remember correctly you want about a 2-1-1 ratio.

Well, my thought is that you have the light a little too close to the plants. This is causing the leaves to behave oddly.......They're sort of folding so the light doesn't hit them square on a flat surface & there still might be heat issues. If they were my plants, I'd move the light up another foot or foot and a half. Try it & see how they react.

And then yes, like Ogstradamus said.....take it easy on the ferts. Just give plain water the next couple of waterings. I like to use distilled water on young plants like yours. Then you can start in with a very light feeding. Give your plants a chance to use the nutrients that are already in the soil.

Hope this helps ya out..... :yummy:

Imo MG soil [ which is prefert to begin with, no? ] plus the other ferts = overfert. Then the leaves look like they have a ph issue too. Whats your ph runoff at?

Hello hello,
Have had that behaviour before and I have come to the conclusion that it can happen because of 3 reasons.
I will list them in the order they are most likely to occur:

1. Too little air flow

2. Wrong Ph

3. Overfert

I'm suspecting this one again to be too little air around the plant.

Lol Verite, you seem to be diagnosing everything as overfert lately....

I was thinking that it could be the hps being to close but the temps in my closet are always 75-76 degrees F. I have plenty of airflow. I know for a fact that I over-fert them cause today more yellow spots have appeared on the leaves. I dont have any way to test the PH of the water, I will have to pick up some test strips this weekend if they will give me an accurate reading? I will move my hps up some more and give plain water the next few waterings. Would it be a good idea to give a good flush or not? I appreciate all the responses that i have got, Hopefully we can figure this one out and get everything going smoothly again....

Should i give all my plants a good flush since i over-fertilized them?

Your plants in the pics above don't look all that bad....over fert wise. What I'd do is get some distilled water and use that for watering. Pour a bunch through the first time til it drains out the bottom of the pot. Doesn't look to me like you've over ferted enough to require a full balls out flush. But, if things start to yellow with brown spots a bunch more on the bottom fans then go for it. Your plants have a long way to go to finish........lots of time to recover.

Good luck. :yummy:

Thanks for the advice Bipedalhominid. As for the over fert, the pics were taken yesterday and the yellowing has progressed a little more but I'll do what you told me to do, and like you said I do have a long way to go so they got alot of time to recover....Thanks man..Peace...and happy GROWING... : )

nothing wrong with flushing, as long as they were not over watered. looks like over fert, nitrogen toxicity with other lockouts probably. flush them with 2 to 3 times the size of container water. One way to see if they are over ferted is check ph run off of soil, if its over fert it will be very acidic.

With such little plants, what I'd do is remove the plants from their containers and wash all the soil away then replant in a non ferted medium. Your plants are suffering from over fert no doubt about it.

Since your plants are still in veg and SMALL then its worth the effort, if this had happend 3 weeks into flowering then I'd pitch them onto the compost pile.

Good Luck
