My bog LSD seeds were huge and explosive. After 12 hours soaking in water 3 already had 1cm tips emerging.

Thats great info from everyone! Seems that there is no one "biggest seed" strain? I grow outdoors in an equatorial region. I may try something from mexico!

PEACE

What's up thaiphoon,

since your in the tropics check out Kumaoni from the real seed co. Himalayan chara strain/seed/fiber cultivator. It's got big seeds.

I may be mistaken but I thought I read somewhere people in Himalaya eat cannbis seeds as part of their regular diet.

Got a doubt now. Couple years ago I had a few seeds of an AlienKush x Nepal LR X growing both indoors and outdoors. They were average in size. I hit a lower branch from one indoor and one outdoor with the NepalLR male. The result from outdoor, seeds were huge, and the indoor ones were the same size on average as the originals (also noting the difference in seed size from the same plant)
My question: Do big outdoor plants produce bigger seeds than their clones in small pots? Shorter: Big plants, big seeds?

I have to agree with the Mexican Bagseed having some huge seeds. I have a bunch I was thinking about doing a SST with. :chin:

Big seeds

Big seeds

I collected these and grew them.
The big are are 12 to one gram from Yunnan China.
The small 800 to one gram are originally from the mountains around Pahalgam Kashmir India found over 9,000 feet.
For biggest or smallest, weight is the easiest way to measure size as long as the seed is mature.
You can also screen size them easily if you have a set of seed sizing sheet metal screens with round holes, big to small set of 10 screens.

Sam those are some very contrasting-sized seeds!!! it makes me wonder... if such a tiny little seed is all that's needed, why are the large seeds so large? extra protection against say... dropping/fracturing or the cold or sun? extra nutrients or something so they last years longer? or simply... that's the genetic path they ended up travelling down!? or.....?? fascinating either way

Hello,

Which variety produces the largest seeds? I want to use the seeds in some different vegetarian recipes, ex hummus falafel possible tahini type stuffs!

I just figured I need to produce fewer big seeds than many small seeds!! haha

Thanks for any info!

ThaiPhoon

Seeds have a genetic maximum size level , they can only get as big as the genetics dictate , how ever the way they are grown makes a big difference , high light levels make for bigger seeds

The largest seeds are bred for food. There's no other reason for selective pressure to produce larger seeds. Asian food varieties are easily the biggest.

Why if dog can be the size of a Chihuahua dog are there great danes?
Man has selected them both. The Danes, the Chihuahua, and the big Cannabis seeds.
Wild Cannabis without the hand of man is small to tiny, it is more efficient for the plant. Man wants big seeds for many reasons, the biggest Cannabis seeds have been selected by man for centuries to shell and eat like sunflower seeds. You cant do that with tiny Cannabis seeds.

Here's two pics from friends on the real seed company forum

one of them shows the jungli seeds ( wild plants propagated by birds probably )

and the other shows the Bama chinese hemp seed, big and juicy.

and the one with the red ruler is mine, all drug types, to the far right was a less potent plant used in cooking.

I had to track down the post from 2008, but namkha says over 100 per gram..

I looked at your previous post which said 800 per gram for your small seeds, there might be a typo because they look about the same size or namkha didn't weigh them and just guesstimated.
