Landrace Cambodian, Indian, Jamaican Pearl and Original Haze in tropical jungle!

So, it's that time again. I have 7 seedlings at present (4 Indian, 3 Cambodian) that will be moved to my spot in the jungle soon. I don't want to take any pics yet because of security concerns, but once they make it to the woods, I'll be sure to upload some pics of them enjoying the tropical rain and sunshine. The Indians come from seeds I picked up in India. I grew them out and made seeds, and I've been smoking myself and my friends silly off of the pot I harvested for over a year. Hopefully I'll harvest plenty of good smoke to tide me over for at least another year again. :)

I intend to hit everything with Jamaican Pearl pollen. I picked up the JP at Sensi in the 'Dam, and I was impressed by the potency, hardiness, mold resistance, quality of high and flavor of the JP female I got. I left it outside, but I'm pretty sure it's died from a lack of care on my part. Haven't been to the spot in several months, but I'll report back on my findings when I take the first batch of seedlings out there.

Here's a pic of some Jamaican Pearl bud:

This is a pic of a budding Indian female out at my spot in the woods. Looks like I might have to clear out some of the vegetation in the spot because of the great weather we've had so far this year. I really should have gotten some plants out earlier, but I've been busy...

I'll be using some 10-10-10 chemical fert with trace elements (sparingly) along with fish emulsion, kelp and high P bat guano during veg. I'll switch the chem fertilizer to something more suitable for flowering in the latter part of the year. I just want to ensure all bases are covered, but I'll minimize the chem fert use. I will also be staking the plants up this time, since I found a few snapped branches last year. I think this will help yields significantly. I will also add a lot of perlite to the mix to aid in aeration and water retention later in the season (when things dry up)...

Thanks Jeff. Unfortunately, it's a lot wetter here than in Cali, and I have to deal with all kinds of nasty bugs to get to my plants. That's not necessarily a bad thing though. Hiking up a bug infested mountain to get to 'em means other people are less likely to do the same, especially in high humidity. I couldn't even make it to the spot today because of the incredibly heavy tropical rain we get...also means I can't do pure indicas. They'd flower and rot immediately.

Good luck bro ! i'm very intrested to see your Jamaican pearl and indian cambodian strains growing under tropical climate.

We had terrible hard rains this last two month and had to pre harvest most of my finishing indicas girls and even the Jack horor yesterday because of mildew powder and mold on the indicas.

Although they were under a plastic tent, too much humidity.

My haze and california orange bud don't have powder mildew nor mold.

Finally i think we have passed the worst of the rain season and sunny days are coming back.

weather is changing and by end of July we'll be in dry season and you could also grow some more indicas strain ( not the one flowering too soon) .

Guidance and protection.

One Love.

Hey Core, the more the merrier! I'm hoping to get out there in the next few hours, but it's been pretty wet recently. Don't wanna slide around in the dirt or trigger a landslide ;)

If you don't mind I'm gonna grab my ice bong and follow the adventure. Took me a while to see the plant in that photo man, definetely stealth! I've always been impressed by the trpical harvests I've see. One like this involving lots of landrace strains comes to mind, seeing as it's from a different magazine then IC I won't go into details. Looking forward to seeing how things look in the forest, best of luck!

Thanks breathofwater, you're more than welcome to come along for the ride. I'm curious as to which mag and article you're talking about. I can only really think of one that might have had one. Might have to go check it out :) Hopefully I'll have the first pics up for everyone today.

Alright I was thinking of a south african grow from red eye issue twenty four. This is one of my favourite articles and I've read alot of magazines. I was instantly reminded of it due to certain strain similarities. The grower in the article grew Jamaican Pearl, Haze and his own sativas (among others). Here is a picture that has always made me smile.

Wow, those are some impressive buds! I'd love to read that article. I don't think I'll be growing anywhere near that much, although time will tell ;) Yeah, I hear you about the strain similarities now. I'm significantly closer to the equator than South Africa is though. I can't wait to see if the haze pops, but I didn't make it out to my spot. Gonna be another couple of days...

Aloha One+One! Respect for the good vibes :D I've never had issues with snails actually. Aphids and spidermites (AND SPIDERS THAT CHOOSE TO LIVE ON MY PLANTS!), but not snails.

OK, so I'm too pussy/lazy to get out there. I'm going to shoot for tomorrow. :| I really don't want to run into any cobras/vipers/kraits, so I'll take a long stick and wear mag boots...

C'mon man - how hard can it be? They're only snakes...:)

Seriously though - I'm dying to know how your jungle grow is progressing. Good luck with the hike...:)

EM, I read your post right before I went in the woods. I couldn't have chosen a better (sarcasm) day. 34 Celsius / 93 F. I was fortunate in that I didn't run into any snakes, but I saw an enormous, scary and very beautiful black and yellow spider. The 15 gallon grow bags I have in the woods were bone dry. I transplanted the four Indians into one, and the Cambodians into another. I watered them as best I could with the 1.5 L bottle of water I had (1.5 Quarts), but they were in direct sunlight and slightly battered from being transported.

Hopefully they make it! I might have to go back in a few days if it doesn't rain, since we're having such hot, dry weather. I'll be sure to take a camera along next time so you guys can see how they're doing! The Indians had several leaf sets each, but the Cambodians were on their second set of leaves after the embryonic ones...

Brilliant report - and I was panicking about a few slugs and rabbits...:)

I'm very impressed with your dedication though, and it's great to see some heritage strains being grown in heritage locations! I hope they all pull through.

As for rain, the UK seems to be slowly drowning at the moment, so maybe that's where it's all gone? Of course, in two weeks, they'll claim we're having another 'drought'...:)

Cheers EM! I made a mistake, the grow bags I put 'em in are 10 gallon. I haven't used a 15 gallon one yet (although I have some), partially because 60 liters of quality mix is a bit on the expensive side here, and I'd have to carry a shitload of soil and perlite up a steep mountain...lol. Thanks for the compliment. A lot of people gave me strange looks for wandering into the jungle in the heat. People drop/die here in summer, and I was wandering off with a big backpack.

Something weird's going on with the weather this year. Lots of drought and floods, more so than I ever recall in the past. Looks like I'll have to run up to the little ones tomorrow if it doesn't rain. It's fo0kin hot and the grow bags were really dry...

I haven't put out any original haze or Jamaican Pearl yet, but the four Indians and three Cambodians should keep me busy for a while. I might source a landrace Vietnamese sativa when I'm out there next month. I think that would make a nice addition. It would be nice to have multiple jars of pure sativa to pick from! :)
