Nice to see you back kov.
Im glad to hear that the conditions are becoming tolerable. Here in DK it seems like the summer is gone..As sudden as the heatwave started, as sudden did it stop and rainfalls has set in..i pray for sun every day since they need it badly thru flowering.
The Purple Princess looks mighty fine in particular, but your plants look good all around.
I can see what u mean about the soil mix..i too think i have chosen wrong this year..i have the same problem as u..im trying to remedy it with nutes, but im afraid to go too far.
Please do update more often as i love watching your girls develop..crossing my fingers that the kush pollen will produce some killer crosses for u...

One thing I done to cheer them up a little. I had a bit of OG Kush S1 pollen left, although it is more than 3 months old, I gave it a try and pollenated a couple of buds on each of flowering plants. It may be interesting to see if it works! I wonder what comes out of such a cross.
AAyaaaeyaaae ~ KOV ! man-0-man : now you're playing with fire !
It's allways starts with "I wonder what ..." , but once you'll have tasted your own design magical bud, you'll know : you'll keep on wondering about them #'s ... and you'll gonna try them all. But watch out, cuz before you realize, it's becoming a fulltime job. Be streng and do select well.
Play only with da g00d ones.

I'll wish you can harvest them all real BIG & FAT.

It's alive!

Don't remember if I suggested it last year, but water crystals should help the girls in the frying pan.. Other than the heat stress everything looks really good!

hey hey Gentelmen! No heat stress for the ladies anymore ixnay my friend, it's quite the other way around now, lots of rain and chilly temps. I can feel the autumn closing on very very fast. Now is the time for mold problems! Damn did I say that? Knock on wood!

So, if the plant wants to mature, it better start flowering right now! Fortunately most of my plants - Suki's, Esben's, Darpan's, Phil's are more or less starting to flower (Hot Cargo's a bit lagging behind), and I'm very happy about it, there's going to be a lot of variety this year (crossing fingers).

From now on, there's going to be bud pics posted, an update tomorrow, too lazy to upload pics just now.

hey kov , sorry to hear about the heat issues , i always mulch quite heavily , t hat way keeping the soil cooler and moist for longer , if its not enough u can add old potato sacks and wet them down for the top of your mulch ,, works a treat ...
best to never let them wilt , they are suffering by that point and u are loosing potential ....

Hey wallyduck, thx for tip, got to try it together with water crystals. Although one observation I made - when it's really hot, the amount of watering doesn't matter! It's so hot just above ground level that the plant fails to manage to transport the water thru the stem towards the leaves I suppose.
Anyway, here's an update.
As I said before, the heat wave has ended, there's lots of rain, lots of clouds. The plants are finally allowed to breathe in crisp air. But I'm not happy about it because the dreaded mold, that damn mold is coming close. Some plants may already be closing to harvest. It's very surprising, harvesting in early september hasn't happened to me since quite a few years. So thanks to some friendships made at OG, I may be close to a north european grower's goal, the goal of early flowering.

So here's a nice pic of Darpan's purple princesses, among flowering heather, yes the autumn is close, but the colors are not there yet.

The other plants that are flowering are:

Darpan's shiva power plant, nice looking and smelling candy:

Phil's early purple, much affected by heat, but if those buds fatten up, I'm in for a treat.

Esben's erdbeer x pp, lots of crystals already, may be a killer.

One of Phil's purple berrys is very advanced compared to the other two, which do not flower yet.

Suki's guerilla gold is budding up rapidly...

...although his LR x GG is a tiny little bit behind...

...as well as Phil's purple arrow, smelling really good.

In terms of size, the shaded spot is the winner of course, the plants reach 3,5m already, so the usual worries of somebody stealing the show are on the high, typical of all outdoor growers at this time of the year. :D

To finish the show here's some males I pulled from the spots at a right moment and planted in glasses of water at home. It works, their pollen sacks mature away from the spot allowing for a good pollen collection. The thing is...it may be too late to pollenate. I got not more than 1,5 months left till harvest and the last days will be chilly.
BTW: the OG Kush S1 pollen didn't work unfortunately, I had to use some fresher shiva power plant pollen, we'll see the results.

Phil's male purple berry:

Phil's male purple arrow:

From now on the action will be swift, buds will explode (hopefully) and we soon will be able to taste the fruit of autumn.

Until next update!

WOW kov...im really impressed. Those girls look great!!!
I feel that some of these crosses very might be the next generation of strains, that us northeners are craving. I can hardly wait for next summer to come, with all these kick ass strains to work with..im fairly new here at icmag, but the way that u guys are helping each other out with all these great genetics is great!! I myself got the Purple Peace genes from a friend, who got them from esben, who got them from darpan i presume..this just shows what the spirit of sharing is all about..gettin those good genetics out to all the good people.
Anyways..things are lookin superb..that PP looks delicious as does the other plants..i hope and pray that u will be able to harvest mold free buds very soon, and that the shiva pollen will produce some great crosses for u.

hey kov ,, boy the plants are looking great ,, love the first pic there , very classical cannabis shot ...
yes i hear u on the air temps ,, my main aim wiht mulch is to cool down the soil , and keep it moist , u will find it helps a lot and plants wont wilt in the warmth ...
the method i use enabled me to avoid dramas with the very hot summer we had last year , many days of december were in the 40 s ....and no problems wiht the plants ..
great season for u though i think even with the heat ...

Some great shots there kov. Are Darpan's purple princesses and flowering heather local lines?

Sort of strange the shaded spot grew the largest plants. Hasn't been the case for me. Did you go through a drought?

hello kov  friends :)

awesome buds kov, really peace of good outdoor gardening. looks like the gods of wheather are with you. though the mold is a bitchy one. i have some on my early durbans. fighting two weeks already. shitty poor wheather here lots of rains and no evap gives a chance to spray the funguses allround. i use sulfur solution to get rid of it. today is my second spraying. keepin the schedule, hope for effects. some bud rot and powdery mildew stopped but it seems like they haven't done yet :/ little bastards.

hope ur grow will be more resistant. kov wish you lots of frisch and healthy budds in the fall.

peace pes

So what is the right moment to pull the males and stick them in a glass of water?

I had planed to do this all year. Hopefully i can gain better insight as to how, since i was to just figure it out as i go.

Hello friends, thanks for the compliments, although for now my results seem pretty modest this year, nevertheless there's certainly gonna be lots of variety. I'll certainly love to smoke something different everytime I smoke, in the wintertime!

Yes it has always been like this, my plants seem to enjoy a couple of hours of shade in the heat of summer. And this summer was one of the hottest I remember. The plants that were exposed to sun all day suffered a lot and got stunted heavily.

I think the right moment is the very last moment.:D You got to observe your males and cut them at the very last moment before pollen sacks open. It's not easy, but then, does it really matter if some pollen is released? A couple of surrounding females may get a seed here and there, they certainly will not get fully seeded, because typically at the moment a male is mature there will not be many flowers on a female yet.

Besides, the male in a glass of water will not last too long because of lack of root system, it will only survive as long as to open most of the sacks, and then die.

Very nice crop, kov!

I like the look of those purple princesses. They are budding nice and early. It looks like suki did a good job making his own Guerilla Gold seeds. That's a nice GG specimen and the GGxLR looks interesting as well. The leaves look much wider on the GGxLR than the pure GG for sure.

OK, good luck with the rest of the season...
