this is the quick mist diesel male. out of 10 total seeds, he was the only one to make it. since he is healthy, i am going to keep his genetics to cross with a lucky female or two. my camera is a little messed up because the buttons don't work except zoom in/out and taking pictures. if you can even see, it has some purple on the balls.
here is the white skunk male. the weird thing is, it is showing pistils as well. pretty hard to see since i couldn't get it to focus. should i keep it, so it gets pollenate by the qmd? or would it not be worth keeping because it still has lots of balls? the sacks haven't opened up fully yet, so if pulling it now is a good time, please let me know.
cool pic of the qmd around the 23w daylight cfl running 12/12.
yeah it's best to pull the males when you are sure about them. unles you plan to make seeds, in which case i would not make use of any hermy plant as it will only give you more hermy tendencies in the new seeds.
keep up the good work man, i hope you can get yourself a hps soon, even a small 400 or 250 will make all the difference to your plants. mind you this sure is a great way to practice the basics.
gaiusmarius you are very wise and i appreciate you taking time to gander. after i earn some money this summer after working, i am going to get a 400 hps for sure. would you recommend digital switchable ballasts? i have read that they can interfere with certain signals. better safe than sorry anyday of the week. also, what is your opinion on either the homebox xs or hydrohut mini? it will save me lots of time and bandaids to get one of those for the simplicity of the rigging. godspeed gaius.
i still use the old fashioned ballasts myself, you only really need a hps to start. but if you know of a reliable digital ballast, why not? although as i say, it's some thing you have to decide yourself. the main thing is to get a hps.
gaius... it seems like you like hps's? i've seen some magnificient grows with cfl's and with newer technology, their potential will go even further. i am running 6 42w cfl's for a total of 252w's of warm cfl's. it is putting out roughly 16,800 lumens, so it doesn't put out the same lumens, but it is much cheaper to cool. a 250w hps does 28,5000 lumens, so it is a little more than half that output. more pics to come soon of the ladies. btw, those male plants were germed after all of the white skunks, so they are not as old maybe 2 weeks younger.
the cfls are good for vegging, but they don't produce much budage from what i have seen. you need to concentrate a hell of a lot of cfl's to get a similar effect to one 400 or 600.
but like i said no one can take the lighting decision off you man. i do realize that the ventilation needed for the hps lamps is tricky in such a small grow area.
in the end all that matters is that you are happy with what you are doing and getting from it.
but yes indeed i do love my phlips 600 watt industria lamps, talk about reliable
ok, here is a mini-update. the last white skunk plant tricked me into thinking it was female, but it was a hermie. that leaves me with only 3 plants now. i've been collecting pollen from the qmd and it is in the fridge, ready to go to the freezer after i collect enough. a few days ago i germed the last 8 of the white skunk beans and got 100% germ rate. i would highly recommend white skunk to any novice because out of a total of 16 beans, all of them germed, but only 2/4 that made it the first time are female. these other 8 will go under 12/12 for now until i can determine sex and get them outside. a buddy germed 4 tribal vision seeds and 3 made it. a lucky female will be pollenated with qmd when the time is ready. the 2 white skunks are tied down and a screen is in the process of making to do a scrog. more info to come.
ps. the white skunks have purple pistils!!! too bad my camera isn't working at optimum level.
alright, the moment you've all been waiting for. it has been a long time since i've seen these ladies. i was about to go into the other room and do some of this .
this was the best looking lady out of the two. the pistils have some purple in them and that is getting me excited. very frosty as well.
what it do, what is, what it be like my blazin chelonian! katnap here, finally found your damn thread the other day. just wondering if those ones you flowered were from seed or from clone. get it how you live!
for the past few days, i've been using these CO2 enrichment pucks to supplement the plants. since a whole disc covers a 12ft. x 12ft. room, i broke them down into smaller pieces in accordance with the chamber size.
this is the product i am using. it is enhanced with eucalyptus to kill off mites and provide a good scent.
here is the best girl. she got fattened up a little bit.
2 nights ago I picked some of the lower budsites to try to focus on main colas. they looked a lot bigger before the trimming. it will probably be about a bowls worth. only about 3 1/2 weeks or so until the chop chop. how much will the buds fatten up in the next few weeks?
its hard to give a straight answer to that last q lcoopa, but in the last 3 weeks of flowering (weeks 6,7,8) with my girls i have noticed more bulking and mass, and less vertical bud production
you can't really flush organic nutrients out of the medium, unless they are liquid watter soluble nutes. but by giving plain water the last week to 2 week you should allow the plant to use what she still hash. it depends on how strongly you have been feeding.
today is roughly day 30 of 12/12 since the plants took so long to show sex. they probably have at least 3 more weeks. i smoked some sample nugget that i picked last week and it got me and a chap high !!! my aspirations for this strain are very high seeing that i got 100% germ rate from all the beans, but through disaster ended up with only 2 females . you learn through trial and error, this being the first "real" attempt. anyways, just got some more pics.
a shot of the who white skunks. if you haven't noticed before, decided to tie the one with 5 colas that isn't as good to experiment. the best one left to make 4 colas.
some budshots of my favorite pheno.
i wish you could all see how resinous this strain is getting. the pictures don't do them justice, but when i used a jewelers magnifying glass thing, there was so many trichs . supposedly i may get access to a camera that can do bomb macros towards the end (also to look for those amber trichs).
i would like to get a few clarifications for future reference so please don't bash me with noobasaur comments
1) if white skunk has a 50-55 day flowering time, does that time initiate when the plants how preflowers or flowers? otherwise that would mean i am at day 43 or 44 since the switch from veg to flower and they don't look even close to being remotely mature. they could definately use a few weeks and still need to be fed plain water toward the end.
2) is it wrong to trim off a bunch of fan leaves? i thought it would help focus energy into the new growth when they were still in veg? i ended up making them into a bunch of stick plants and they took long before they started to grow new growth.
thanks to those who have been patient with me . cheers on a .
im pretty sure that the flowering process doesn't actually begin until 2 weeks after you flip the photoperiod, so dont get to giddy and chop early. looking purrty man
you dont want to cut off alll the fan leaves either because they are helpful for storing and creating vital energy for the plants. if they get in the way you can tuck them somewhere or something like that. hope that helps and keep up the g work
