hey fellow ic members. i am a noob who is looking to start his first grow very soon. about a week ago, i received the beans that i ordered from gypsy nirvana. i got afropips tribal vision, rez quick mist diesel, white label white skunk, nirvana bubblicious, and the south african durban poison x skunk 1 freebies. out of all these, i am planning on starting with white skunk because it will finish the earliest out of all the strains and it will be a learning experience before i move on.

i plan on using flouros because i don't have the money to get a hps/mh switchable. right now i plan on getting 4-6 42w CFLs and accompanying them with 8 tube flouros in a four ballast setup (typical shop light). i hear that the daytime spectrum flouros are the best because you get the most lumens that way.

for the grow cab, i went to ikea and bought a really cheap wardrobe for about $40. there is A LOT of modification needed and i will get to that before the jump into flower. i would modify it right now, but money is an issue and i will probably be flowering clones with little or no veg after they get rooted.

the whole grow will be done in a dwc hydro setup in a rubbermaid i bought. right now, i want to start 8/16 white skunk beans and work on a bonsai mum before i start to flower in june. some of the clones will go outdoors in northern minnesota and the rest will go to hydro. any advice will be greatly appreciated and i will start to germ the beans within a week or so. thanks everybody!

it seems like no one has any input. i have decided to do 2 200w envirolites in both the 6400K and 2700k temp range, but since i am a little short on cash, i have a 42w CFL probably soft white that i am going to use temporarily. will this be sufficient until i can get the envirolites? last night i decided to start germing the 8 white skunk beans and i will move them to small dixie cups before i move them in either bigger dixie cups or at least a 4'' pot to keep the mums in. i will keep whoever is looking at my post updated after i get the cracked beans into the cups. peace.

a cfl is all you need for veg my friend. Look into some of the fluorex lights you can get them for cheap and they work very well.

sounds like you have the makings of a good cab there, I think I'd want to start flowering before June though

all 8 of the beans cracked and are showing little tails!!! this is a good sign. does anyone know how stable white label white skunk is and if they develop many phenos? just curious. i am planning on getting them in cups today and start 18/6. lemme know what you think.

Day 1:

i've finally moved the germed beans into the cups and i cut a small hole in each of the bottoms for drainage and they are sitting in a small plastic storage bin. the cups are about 3-4 in. below the light and this one 42w clf (soft white) will not be enough to support at least 4 females, assuming that it is 50% chance to get either males or females. how watts of cfl should i use to be able to support at least 4 bonsai mums until i can take clones off for outdoors/indoor dwc hydro? i have been looking at a 200w envirolite and it seems like a good choice because it puts out 18,000 lumens!!! when it comes time to flower indoors, i want to be able to get the 2700k bulb.

please excuse my noobiness and feel free to point me in the right direction. i have seen so much good input from members on ic and it would be so helpful to start off on the right foot.

this is my temporary half-ass cab that needs much improvement, but it will do for now seeing that i will be in a different location for the flowering. i use the cab for clothes mostly and decided to put the veg chamber at the bottom to keep it stealth. inside the box, ive cut a square and also cut a circle right where the cfl hood is. i dont have a method of cooling the chamber yet, but seeing that it is only one 42w, does it make a huge difference to keep it cool or are the temps not that hot? the lights are on 18/6 right now and i have the timer all set to go.

what is a good way to control the glowing? i found a sheet to cover it with, but i have a feeling that it will insulate the heat more.

these are all 8 white skunk beans. once i move them into bigger cups, i will probably have to lower them from the light because they are so close already.

hi lc,
you could line the box with something reflective, should cut the glow down and increase the light on the plants. One of those digital min/max thermometer/hygrometers would help you keep heat/humidity right

Day 4:

4/8 of the white skunk are doing pretty well. the other 4 have not made an appearance yet and i am wondering if they every will. how long should i wait before i assume worst came to worst and they wont be making a debut.

the middle-left-top sprout was the first to show up the very same day i put her in the cup. ive got my eyes on this one and my aspirations are high.

usually first to pop is male you might want to keep an eye out for the slower growing plants those are more likely to be the females... everything looks good man those seedlings look like they are happy.

Day 6:

i rearranged all the seedlings that made it to the middle where the light is more focused on them. i got a hookup for a little mylar and i'm going to line the inside of the rubbermaid with it. i don't know why, but one more seedling came up on the inner rim of the cup insead of the middle. it looks a little fucked up so if anyone knows what i should do, please let me know. the other day, i checked the cups that didn't have seedlings, 4/8 of em. there was no trace of the sprouted beans that i put in there. maybe i accidentally put them in funny, but i figured 2cm deep was good enough.

this seedling came up today. it has yellow on the inner part of the little sprout leaves. i had to move it back to the middle of the cup because it was on the outer rim of dirt. to help it bounce back, i just watered it a little in case it wasn't getting enough.

these are the healthy 4. the one on the lower right side has a damaged leaf. it looks like it was damaged while i was handling them, but i assume it won't be too much of a problem.

watch out!

watch out!

Be carefull bro! A variety of seeds can be tricky..as for the males wait 2 weeks under a cool fluresent. Heat pads will do amazing things..a 25-50$ investment if your serious...as for the outdoor. BE carefull to what strains u move. Temo. is important indoors, transportation needs to be done right to prevent shock..and a lower temp will decrease your yeild. be coo! late..

how will white skunk do at 47 latitude. i live near a large great lake and water shouldn't be a problem because of lake effect. where is the best place to put them outside? inside of bushes, islands, etc. i will for sure keep 2 moms to save for indoors. how can i identify males only after 2 weeks? i know it is different for every strain, but it seems a little early. i keep jibber jabbering about what kind of light i am gonna use for flowering and i think i might be settled with a 250w hps switchable with some flouro tubes or cfls on the side. once this grow kicks off good, i want to start working on tribal vision and quick mist diesel. since the flower times are so long, i can't start them now seeing that it is my first/kinda second grow ever.

Day 9

Day 9

where is everybody? oh well, i will still put up this diary for those of you who are still interested. this post technically shouldn't be in indoor-hydro, but that is what the flowering cycle is going to be done in.

all of the big 4 are doing good except for the middle-bottom-left one that had a damaged leaf, so i cut it off and used it as some fert for the same plant.

this little runt is messed up. it reminds me of a four leaf clover or something with longer leaves. what should i do with this one???

thanks to those who are following me on this journey.
time to blaze... :joint:

Day 14 (Week 2)

Day 14 (Week 2)

whats up guys? today i did some more modification like i intended to earlier. a buddy was nice enough to let me use some mylar, which i lined the rubbermaid with and also transferred all the plants into 6" pots with coco coir from him as well. one looks a little droopy after the move, but hopefully it will bounce back.

this is the new setup. there is still only one light and i hope to acquire at least one more so i can take clones off once i figure out which ones are female.

the top left one looks kinda funny. very droopy after the move. possibly shock??? the other three are doing good. remember that lil runt? i dont think it was white skunk because the leaves were long and rounded at the ends. i was forced to kill that s.o.b.

bueller? bueller? anyone? anyone? c'mon and show me some love. it seems like no one is answering any of my questions. i am a noobie and would like some form of guidance so i dont screw things up big time, know what i mean??? anyway, im going to update later this week. i had to leave town for a few days, but i watered them good. the coco coir smells great after watering, very earthy and coconut-esque. only one pot has perlite in it and i will get better coverage for all of them once i can get my hands on some more.

as far as nutes go, some earth juice grow could be in the picture that i might use on these. since this is the 2 week mark, what should the feeding schedule be like? pretty soon here im going to get a 2 way y-adapter so i can get 2 lights from one socket. this way i can take clones off once i know which ones are female after the get bigger. then they will be moved to a cloner and put under 12/12 after the cuttings get some roots going.

any advice is greatly appreciated. if white skunk ain't your thang, some rez quick mist diesel is germing right now and bubblicious too. (mother selection only for now. most efforts are concentrated on white skunk.) for some odd reason, the qmd and bubblicious weren't as fortunate with germ rates as the white skunk.

I am new also...so I hate giving advice  But if it were me I'd let the runts grow on out....I've found the most vigourous seedlings that have survived my terrorism have been ladies :D

Never used Earthjuice....some info is readily available in the organic hydro forum...

As for folks not hittin' your thread....no offense...but you been here since July of last year and have under 20 fuckin' posts??? (are you a "longstanding IC'er?" :biglaugh: )

Have you been visiting the threads of others??? Unlikely with that post count...most of which is in this thread...

Shit man...get out and mingle...make some growing friends :D

good luck

Day 20

Day 20

whats up guys. vt, i never really got into posting right away becuz i was always reading on how to grow, etc. i will posting a lot more now. today i just got back to my place after a break from town. the plants are looking marvelous!!! a lot bigger than when i last saw them.

here are all of them looking spiffy as hell. the coco stayed moist while i was gone thankfully. i've started noticing more branching in the armpits or whatever you call them. is it okay to give some nutes yet? maybe 1/4 strength to start of earth juice grow???

i have no clue what is going on here. any help would be appreciated. should i trim these off when they get like this or leave it until it heals/falls off?
