I guess the same way I fell through a sliding glass door with the same shit up.
Momentum+weight=something broken

Google says mountain lions weigh between 80-230 pounds.
That's a girl. I'm guessing around... 170 to 200 pounds.
Plus they can run damn fast.
If it wanted to get through... No stopping it.

an alternative that'd teach that cat to stay away for good would've been to use a shotgun shell loaded with rock salt (you can bust water softener salt pellets into heavy chunks), you'd have to be close and fast to make sure the salt would penetrate some hide but it's gonna sting his ass but good if you can. The big salt pellets (busted up a bit) will do the trick on getting through some hide. Roar of the gun, a prolonged stinging sensation from the salt, cat won't be back & might run from the sight of any human ever again.

That cat WAS stalking and is fully aware that the separation of the glass kept him hidden, in most cases he's been able to look into a home at night without the residents knowing he was there as we can't usually see outside into the dark from within a brightly lit room. That cat has hunted around homes before and would be an EXTREME danger to those children, he/she has surely logged this home as a potential meal in the memory banks, if not tonight then another time perhaps, like when the kids are outside playing in broad daylight. Cougar, mtn lion, puma attacks are up these days as humans have been found to be slow and easy prey and territories are mingling due to rural development & far-reaching outdoor sport & recreation enthusiasts.......

lol deer kill more ppl in america than mountain lions.. i think the number is like ~140 ppl killed by mountain lions since like 1901 or something.. deers are the most dangerous animal in america according to animal planet..i dont see how you can get mad at parents though for going with their instincts.. wild animals do the same thing.. if the guy was taking pictures of the mom and her cubs creeping around in the dark, she would probly rip his face off trying to protect her cubs. if a parent kills a wild animal that he or she feels is a threat to their offspring ,then thats nature...we are after all animals. we have that same killer instinct that many animals have when it comes to their young....

"Fuck off!"
"No, YOU fuck off!"
"No, YOU fuck off!"
"naaaa naaaa naaa"
silliness.
I live in the mountains too, and any responsible parents around here would be smart and take care of a threat to their family. It's not any one human's fault that there are so many of us. It's wrong to hate a human for wanting to protect itself. The cat would kill you (or try) if it thought you were a danger to it or its cubs... Guess what, that's how the mop flops in the natural world. We are as natural as they are, and as righteous in protecting our kin as they are.

If you have no kids, you simply don't know what a parent thinks when he sees a large predator looking at his kids as they play. If you think you know what you're talking about, but aren't a parent, you're simply talking, talking, talking. Whoosh, hot air.

The most dangerous animals anywhere are parents. A mother bear, a mother cougar, a mother human, a mother dolphin, a mother chipmunk, a mother blue jay etc. If you are not a parent, you simply don't understand the impulse to protect (at all costs) that a parent gets. You can try to imagine what that feels like, but believe me, you can't imagine it correctly.

If I had no kids, the cat would be in less danger. If I run into a female cougar with no cub, I'D be in less danger. Same thing. It's a natural feeling only parents can tell you about. In this story, the KIDS are the variable, and a variable only parents can calculate properly.

That cat would have been in trouble if I caught it close to my kids. And I'd be in trouble if I were caught close to hers. That's fair.

nokuy "try and take my picture while creeping around in the dark and ill rip your face off tooo...

that was my point.. i equated the cat snooping outside of that guys porch to a human snooping around the cats cubs and nesting area. if that was suppose to be a shot at me ,it didnt make sense sorry.

As Usual CC...100% accurate!!!Yukon gets a little emotional at times because he thinks he is the only one who knows anything about animals or lives away from people,he cant help himself.Living in harmony with animals is cool and all,but...when a predator comes on my porch it dies, period, when a predator kills my livestock,it dies, period.Wild animals should not and would not come around humans unless there is something goin down.....that cat was hunting!! :headbange

is it not possible for it to be tranquilized and then re located ??? You people keep talking like the only two options for an animal like that is for it to be Let free to roam or to be shot and killed and that is not true.

For example here in canada it is illegal to kill a beaver even though they chomp on all the trees around your house so they fall over and crush it so many people want to kill them. But if you call the proper people they will come with traps and trap them , then move them somewhere far from people.

There is a trapping season even in Canada when you can trap all the beavers you can and sell there skins. Also, around here if you are a landowner and a beaver was falling trees on your house legally wether it be summer or winter you could dispatch the critter.
We are not talking about any other scenario than this one right here,a mountain lion is on your front porch looking in on your children, imo the only reason any wild animal would do that is it was hunting and should have been killed.Tranqs are something the average homeowner doesnt own, shotguns and rifles they have.Mountain lions dont come near civilization for "curiosity".NO wild animal does, when they do its with purpose.
There is a time and place to kill an animal,IMO

I absolutely agree that it is not a good idea to feed wild animals at all, though I do have to comment that apples and hay (though not in bale form) are a part of an elks natural diet. Eating them is not messing up its natural digestive abilities.

Unless the elk around here are just unique.

Also if ya worry over a person shooting racoons why don't ya simply give them a couple heavy duty bungee straps to keep the lids shut. That method works around these parts anyway. And no more dead racoons.

It would take little effort to be part of a solution.

maybe the elk around you are unique like you suggested because the elk around here dont dine on hay or apples (they eat various grasses but mostly leaves from bushes an trees and tree bark)

one of the reasons peeps give them hay is to divert their diet so that they wont eat their precious aspen trees.

the bungees only would keep the trash lids closed it wont conceal the attracting smell.....(garbage is supposed to be kept inside if you live around wildlife)

"crazy composer" ...No im not a parent, so no i dont really relate to your perspective. I do know if there was an imminent threat to me, a pet, or a kid if i had one ....then yeah I'd handle it. But I'm only speaking to the position of the original post pics.....thats not a killing scenario.

"red" i dont think i'm the only one that knows about animals or wildlife, but yeah i am very passionate about wilderness and wildlife...and yeah as I've said before I like animals more than people especially dogs.....I would go live with the fukin wolves if i could.

something to also keep in mind is that wildlife called your property home before you did....no matter where you live.

...just show some respect

i was gonna apologize for my earlier rant, but after re-reading it i cant (i meant every word of it)...its just too bad that humans feel the need to fuck with everything

Humans don't fuck with everything, dude. Misled and overpopulating societies fuck with everything. The Native American Indians are humans, but you wouldn't say they fucked with everything. Their SOCIETY was not destructive to the earth. Please see the difference between cancerous societies, and responsible ones. I realize the average American society is cancerous, but it doesn't mean all Americans are part-and-parcel to the cancer.

Protecting your kin is not the same as wholesale slaughter of species for profit. The two are pointless to confuse.

I admit, however, that if I really saw this cat on my porch, even looking at my kids, I might have tried to PERMANANTLY, non-lethally discouraged him once. But a second visit would most certainly have been fatal for Felix. It would have depended on my gut feeling in the moment.
