With such a traditional culture like Morocco,
that in some ways has stayed the same for the last 400 years,
this is what they introduced to us as traditional ''kiff'.

the only thing that has changed in the last 400 years is the newspaper that it was wrapped up in.

i sat next to a 'lady' on public transit who had a plastic shopping bag full of kat leaves and stems.
she was munching away like mad...very strange and twitchy.

Great pics, nice to see traditional kif up close, looks like its from Moroccan plants (not the Pakistani or imported genetics) so the seeds will be worth saving.

When I was reading about why they use seeded pot, the author said that they don't cull males because they want seeds to plant for the next crop. What was most important to them is making sure there's lots of seeds to keep the process going.

Great pics!! I even like the traditional seeded pot pics. I find the tradition interesting and if people quit practicing it, it will be forgotten. Thanks for sharing!!

Very nice pictures and info, thanks!

I went to Marrakech with a good friend, we stayed in an orangerie in the old part of the city not far from the soukhs, in the new city you have all the big hotels and fancy tourist stuff so I thought we made a good decision staying there. Well nearly everyone in that ghetto was in the tourist scamming game it seemed, what a hell that was with every eyecontact made leading into an annoying scene. Afterwards we should have just taken a guide with us from the hotel, they insisted a few times. Would've gotten us better deals and scam protection but we were too naive :)

Still thankful we got to experience the culture, so authentic even with all the international influence. Their craftsmanship is amazing.

we looked at staying at the Orangerie but ended up in a riad inside the medina. we got lost every time we left the place or wanted to return.
the kids were always eager to help with directions and always put out their hand for a 'tip'. one kid even got mad at me because i didnt give him enough change.

the best is to get a guide especially in the first few days before you get accustomed to the surroundings.
it is a sensory overload with 'sprookers' grabbing your arm to get you into their market stand. the guide helps with this and also with negotiations on your purchases.
