Hope you enjoy.....

you get paper cone filled with 1/4 natural tobacco leaves and 3/4
fully seeded colas

then the hard work begins...

garbelling=remove stems and leaves(easy), and seeds(time consuming) from the colas.
Put aside the tobacco for later.

our friend had a fancy technique of flicking the last remaining seeds out of the mix with the tip of his knife.
well not exactly 'his' knife... the wood kif board and knife are considered community property and borrowed when needed.

once you are sure that all the stems and seeds are removed the fine chopping begins....

although we are not cigarette smokers, we added 2 of the tobacco leaves for a traditional mix.

traditionally, most crops are started from the last years seeds.
no culling of males to make sensi.
no seeds=no crop next year

i am sure there are some modernist growers in Morocco, but for the most part, this is a super traditional culture.

that was an old water generated flour mill at the top of the famous waterfall called 'Cascade d'Ouzoud'. it is located a few hours drive northeast of Marrakech near Beni Malal.
it is a super beautiful and magical place to experience.

Cascade d'Ouzoud is a small, traditional village with 2 small hotels. there are a few outdoor restaurants and camping on the terraced slopes going down to the bottom of the waterfall.
at the bottom you can rent a decorated paddle boat and a driver to take you out into the water and under the falls.

tour busses come from Marrakech for a few hours every afternoon but other than that it is an oasis of chill. stay overnight and experience the magic once the busses roll off.
you may not want to leave....

@rangergord

water from the river is diverted below the hut and turns the grinding stone.
grains then drop from the wicker hanging basket, into the hole of the grinding stone, which then grinds the grain into flour.
