Keep it or kill it? (None potent plants)

Okay so I'm still Learning, I only have a few grows under my belt. Anyways here's a problem I'm currently facing. I had two master KUSH plants, one was covered in trichomes, dense, smelly, and it had a "turf" look to it. Now the second one looks like a normal budding female, but doesn't appear the same as the other master KUSH (the good one). Theres hardly any trichomes on it, little smell, but otherwise fat,and shitty. They were both from the same company same batch and all.

I recently discovered the fact that there are different phenotypes of the same strain.

I had the exact same thing happen with my first grow of jack herer. One was dank premium bud and the other was swag.

So with the KUSH I have now, should I wait to see what she does or cut her down and move in a plant that will produce? I'm not 100% sure when I started them but the good plant has been harvested, after 6 weeks of flowering. So the crappy plant is probably on week 8 of flower and still no trichomes. In the future when is a good time to cut my loses, like if no trichomes by week ??, cut it.

Thanks in advance

I got nothin' for ya, but I too have a Master Kush in the garden producing little frost. I haven't even gotten to the 3rd week of flower, but I have 2 other plants which are putting off the white stuff like mad in the same environment. 8 weeks though, yikes. I look forward to hearing what you find out either way.

Since you've flowered this one so long already though, why not keep it? You're almost done. Maybe she will surprise you?

We'll because I have no use for swag, and if my jack herer grow was any kind of indication of things to come, this plant will be like swag. But yeah the only reason she's still in a pot is because I was hoping that she was a late bloomer but it looks like shes just garbage. About 3-4 oz of wasted time

By the way on my jack herer grow I took clones from the plants only to find out a few months later that most of the clones came from the crappy plant. So if you take clones make sure you only clone the best ones. Good luck.

I'm sure I'm not the only one dealing with phenotype problems, how do experienced growers efficiently deal with this issue

no your not the only one . everybody that grows from seed looks for a keeper pheno from every strain . we all have to go through what your doing now . ultimately the decision is yours . i wait till i can smoke test it before i decide which one or one's will be kept . this is very typical of seed runs . sometimes ya get gold , some times ya get crap .

I don't know where you got the Master Kush from but most info suggests about 60 days and one even stated 9-11 weeks. It sounds like you may have even chopped the other one way early at 6 weeks. In any case I see there is some sativa in the strains background and you may have a sativa dominant phenotype. If that is the case it will take quite a while to finish. Hell, I just had a sativa pheno of a 10 week strain take 15 weeks (could have one a few more) She didn't even show trichs until about week 9 or 10 but she was frosty at 15 weeks and the high is oh so nice! (haze)

FWIW, my MK trichs just showed up this morning. They had a little anyway (barely), but this morning - POOF! Exactly at the end of week 3. Maybe yours are just running a little late? Either way, best of luck OP!

Thanks for The replies guys. I read everyone's comments, and I appreciate you taking the time to answer my post.

It's a seed from nirvana, ordered thru Herbies.

One thing i just started doing is keeping a monthly planner to keep a detailed journal. Because honestly my ages are only estimates because I hadn't been writing anything down.
I think at this point I'll keep her till she turns yellow before i chop her. Thankfully she's not super bushy.

I'd do the same, btw the 9-11 week strain I mentioned was Nirvana's. Not a bad idea to forget about the calendar and just chop when they're done.

Well I never harvest based on # of days flowered, but I'm not going to "forget the calendar" cause without it If have no idea how long to flower the clones if it is a keeper. But I know what u mean.

120 days is a long flowering plant. I dislike growing
one out, based on genetics, hoping for the spurt.

For me, if by 60 days in flower from seed, she shows no
interesting traits, into the bin she goes.

But, if you have the space, let her finish, maybe she'll
be worth the wait?

Because there was so much talk about crappy master kush I feel obligated to post this:

Dr Chronic sells his "Trouble Maker" which is hindu kush x master kush

It resins up like no other and is very strong

It is my favorite hash

Slow grower and short, and beware it stinks 20 feet away

You will not find a bad seed/plant in a trouble maker packet, and as i said they are only available by dr chronic
