This is a beginning of Kali China diary.
To day I recived seeds from Dubi and I plan to give them a go.
These are well worked lines of improved Kali China, which I must say was very nice even when it was regular.Few years ago.
Dubi can answer questions how and what.
How did they choose parentage and what is Ace looking forward to achieve.
I did like KaliChina and had it as keepers, but somehow it faded behind all other varieties that I had to try.
So much seeds and so little time.
But here we go again...

Edit.And sure...the tittle went wrong :spanky:....improved ...

I'm watching this one. I just have a single seed of Kali waiting to start -- too much ace candy to choose from, too little cash --

Germinating like that can work very well but you really have to be paying attention to get them before the roots get hairy.

I like them to be hairy. Then I prepare the soil and put some mykoriza on top and plant the seed. That way they come in touch immidiately.
Why do you say is no good?

it´s not that specific. when they get hairy, the root may stuck on cotton but it removes easily without damage to root. sometimes i have kept seeds days after germinating on the cotton or blotter paper(without funny prints)

Yes, ofcourse, you have to be extra carefull..not to damage anything.
Always when someone says this or that, I'm curious to know why. There is a big fat chance that I learn something new..

Had to take them under ledlights next to floweringcabin, it's warmer there.
Spring is really cold and miserable this year...
Cold, rain, windy....you name it...

Hey Dubi, thanks for genetics. This is going to be interesting.
So far they are doing fine.
Line 22 looks a bit faster than line 21, plants are just weenie bit bigger.I'll be taking some pictures this weekend.
Nice broadleaves are they ;)

KaliChinas are coming along nicely.Did do another batch of line 21 and one of them is planted on pure cocos, others are in organic soil.
There is one Mauritius x Mango Zamal to compare structure

I also like a lot its hashplant structure and its beautiful wide leaves.
I'm glad the second KC 21 batch is germinating correctly :)

This is where we are now. These two line 22's are biggest ones, and one line 21 behind is just as big, I haven't moved it yet, to bucket.

I really like these KaliChinas, they are healthy, sturdy very compact plants. With compact I don't mean that they are small, cos they are not.I mean that growing habit is very tight, controlled on their own.
I'm really impressed the work Dubi has done and I can recommend these to anyone.
Stemrub is woody mango, citrusy smell coming in later.

My notes about growing.
Line 22 seems to be bit more robust.Stems are like my finger, very sturdy.
Branching nicely, not too thick, nice open structure.
No need to remove leafs, lower branches make nice cuttings.
Leafs are BIG, serrated but don't shadow too much.
Flowers from bottom to top

Line 21 is similar but a bit more dainty, fairylike ;)
Probably branching bit more than line 22? Not sure?

Stemrub 22 is more woody and line 21 is more mango, no more citrus anymore.
Distinct difference in smells.

Mind you KaliChina 22 4 is a big girl and I still have some more vegging in greenhouse.
One is in 30 l bucket and I'm going to grow it a MONSTER ;)
One 21 is in pure cocos and looking very promissing.I just moved it from 17 x17 cm pot to bucket and it had so much roots that it was holding cocos in one piece....
Impressive.

Well done Dubi, truly.I'm going to stock myself with fem Kalichinas at the end of summer!
