Just picked up a OdorSok

hi all,

I just picked up a 6" OdorSok for my flowering 818 Kush. I really couldn't fit a commercial carbon scrubber in my cab so I'm excited to put this thing to the test.

My homemade scrubber worked well but I know the carbon is definitely depleted and letting slight odors thru. But the cost of refilling it with carbon and dealing with dust, shipping, and storage of bulk carbon turned me off. At $70 this OdorSok is a steal.

One thing though, the assembly and weight of this thing is ridiculous. It takes 2 mins tops to put it together and I swear it's lighter than the box it comes in! No need to heavy chains or strapping to hang this thing up. As of last night, I didn't smell one trace of Kushy goodness. So far so good. Hopefully it willl hang in for the long haul.

I will keep everyone posted.

vaportek does NOT remove smell, it tries to cover it. used in conjunction with a carbon filter they are ok but its just silly to think that you can safely remove bud smell with a fragrance of any kind. be safe people...

^^^^^truer words have never been spoken!!!^^^
dont f'n kid yourself about odor control hit it from as many sides as possible: ozone, ion gens, Carbon, air misters or whatever else enough is never enough!!

keep us updated on how the odor sok performs over a period of time.

seen a few threads on various sites about these odor soks and quite a few people comment that they are good for a short period only, some not even an entire grow.

I'm sure you've been using it for several days now, so how is it working out for you?

Hi all,

I've had it running for about 6 days now and there is clearly no smell whatsoever. I too am waiting the results of the long term testing, but so far so good. Nothing but "neutral" carbon scent.

Regarding the Vaportek comment, I have actually have one of those about for 6 months now and they aren't all that great. I used it in conjunction with a DIY carbon filter. Initially the scent is super intense and will neutralize any odor. But around the 1.5-2 week mark, the scent fades quickly and you usually have to replace the disc. I've run combinations of 1 disc to 5 discs and they all lose scent effectiveness around the same time. Perhaps it's the amount of air that gets exchanged in my setup that causes the scent to disappear, but 2-4 discs every two weeks tends to add up rather quickly. I usually break them out only during harvest to remove odors of fresh herb.

I'm running a 6" elicent 150B on a speed controller, max CFM is 309, the OdorSok is 6" as well, rated at around 380 cfm. I'm the king of overkill :)

I will keep everyone posted..

How long do these odorsoks last? Do you have to buy a new one or can you replace parts on them to refresh the odor neutralization?

not sure how long they will stay effective as there still quite new and not many people have posted much about them but from what ive read its been mixed response.

i know youcan tumble dry the odor sok if it gets to humid in your grow.

The sok i bought was spent after 4 weeks of use.

8" sok on a 450cfm 6" ecoplus fan, combating 4kw of growroom.

my neighborhood still stank like skunk.
aka, it didn't work very well.

@neptune,did you get any type of refund for that odor sok?

thats the sort of problem that people can do without.it only take the wrong person to get a whiff of a grow and it could be game over.

These ordor soks sound too good to be true. Looking at the video it looks as if they are just screens made out of carbon or screens coated with carbon.

If I have 30+ lbs of active carbon (3 mm pellets) in a filter here that lasts 14+ months how the heck can a screen that is only a fraction of the total active carbon, combat such stink for a long period of time? Just doesnt seem possible.

According to some sites selling this product they claim 12 months on the life of the filter.

I'm not sure if a 8" sok is capable of supporting a 4,000w setup. It seems to me you would need more than that. But I never ventured past CFLs and small HIDs.

Day 25, and I don't smell anything. Will keep everyone posted.

The guy at the hydro store in my town said you need to throw the sok in the dryer for a while every 2 weeks. Its the moisture that keeps it from working right. He said as long as you throw it in the dryer every couple weeks the thing will work like gangbusters for quite a while. I guess a couple of his customers swear by the dryer trick.

My last grow i used 2 6 inch odor soks and 3 vaportek 4000's to control 6500 watts........YA RIGHT......maybe if you're growing a pheno of NL that has little to no scent!!! I got a can-filter 100 with a 8 inch vortex on it for 5000 Watts, with 2 vaperteks and that works!! Imo the soks are good for like 1000 watts at the max!! I still would just recommend a carbon scrubber.

the thing is a growers no1 concern is the odor from the grow and its a pretty risky option if your buying these things just to save money.

those saved dollars could end up costing youa whole lot more.
