I just went to the new house today to do some yard work, I haven't moved in yet but it was a nice day out so I thought Id clean up the outside of the new place and empress the new neighbours. And just my luck, looks like everyone on the street got a new meter including me!!! I guess my 4 k dream is screwed!!!?? or is it?

you really gonna give in over a fkin meter?! I mean even if the powers that be said "we gonna experiment with this block/grid" and your op was included in it. It would still take months, provided you are meticulous in every other security discipline, to complete an investigation. I think people are way to paranoid about electricity... I think the man uses it as a deterrent and im glad in a way. Has there been 1 confirmed bust resulting from the evil digi meter?

Hello Lubricus, my:2cents:
The electric company is just that, a company making money, & if your paying your bill, i don't see them turning you in or anything like that.
Worry about light leaks, odor control, & paying your bill.
Now with that said, i don't have 4k, i have 1k going to 2k, but, i wouldn't worry.

My first thought is you are moving in, you have zero usage now, when you start up get the lights going asap and your first months usage will remain the same as others throughout your staying there. Just a thought...DD

Just do your homework. Check the local/state papers and see if they have lots of indoor busts and why. Some areas pay attention some don't.

Call the utility company and find out what the bill was monthly for the property last year and see if you can stay around those margins.

Also as you haven't moved in yet, now would be a good time to update the efficiency of the house. Fix weather stripping, add insulation in attics, wrap the pipes and blanket the water heater and attempt to lower those items usage to offset what you are going to using elsewhere.

Depending on your income the DOE might even help pay for it and before you get started would be a better time to have the service people around. PM me for a link if you want.

Pay particular attention to where you will be setting up your gear and make sure that its not going to be creating any "hot spots" that you don't want anyone else to see either. Some area's FLIR, some don't.

Use the opportunity to prepare and be smart.

I always turn everything on before I move in to establish a pattern. I hated when they put "smart meters" in my op location, but realized as long as you have a patern, pay bill on time, and you keep your power consumption to an average of 1k per room should be no reason to have any worries.. You are on the right path by keeping a good repor (sp?) with the neighbors by doing yard work. Just blend in with the community and you wont have much to worry about.. People who dont get in trouble use common sense .... You seem to be on the right path.. Best of luck!!
