just built a clone bubbler, need a few pointers

How important is it that the clones be in a vegetative light cycle to root?
Can the bubbler in a flowering cabinet, because i have heard people say it won't root. I don't see why it shouldn't, even if it is flowering.
any thoughts?

priceless

i like your cloner. are those just pieces of pvc pipe glued in the hole with neoprene in them? how did you get the collars to stay in place?

yes ,they are 1" pvc cut in little sections , they have an o-ring around them to keep them from falling thru ( no glue)and in the center of the pvc are little
neoprene discs with a slit to the center...they were cut from a camping pad from wallmart

How do you keep the neoprene discs from falling through? how deep is the container you have there, and I also wondered what is the best way to cut the holes in the container lid?

Thanks

I like your system mtnjohn, i just made the move to neoprene collars and man they are so much better than what i used to use. No doubt about it bubble cloners work well, 99.9 % success.

i hot-glued the bubble bar to the bottom of the 99 cent storage thingy

strait water, no dome, keep temps proper, and you cant fail.

im gonna try leavin a coupl above the bubbles and a couple 1/4" submerged, like i usually do and see what happens, whatever roots quickest is the way im gonna go.

Did you just use the collars and nothing below them? just make them bigger than the hole so they don't fall through?Where can you buy neoprene?
Looks like it works much better than just using starting soil and a dome. The way you do it at least you can see if they are starting to root.
thanks

Damn your guys cloners are high tech mine just has little holes drilled in it and the day I see the smallest of roots forming (usually day 7) I take out and put in soil. I would make one like yours but I dont do hydro so dont need big roots. I like leaving the tips under the water it is easier and I just use a 20watt cfl 24/7.I hold my airstones down with a couple of rocks tied to each end(I am cheap).I will post a pic once I get a hold of a camera.

In the 12/12 flowering light cycle, the cuttings will be confused and forced into flowering mode at the same time as they should really be concentrating on forming roots. They'll root eventually if they havent exhausted all their mobile nutrients putting on those preflowers first, but it will take alot longer and the clones wont be in much of a mood to go thru even more stress reverting to vegetative growth.

Overall, a very bad idea if you're trying to get nice healthy & happy clones ready for the next run. It's a fine sexing technique to find out what sex the donors are, but plan on throwing away those budding babies unless you plan to grow tiny little one bud Q-tips.

GoGreenGiant, I get the impression you think you need intense light of your grow cab in order to clone?
Actually, you can have your little bubble cloner just about anywhere in the house, and dont really need anything major as far as lighting goes. A simple cfl a foot or two away from the cloner works like a charm.

hth & happy cloning

What 10k said is right dont put them in there unless you plan on pulling them out everday after lights out. All I am using is a 22 watt cfl. Here is a shot of my cloner as promised it is very basic and like I said I pull them out as soon as the root start to form to put in soil that is why the holes are so small. A single dual outlet air pump with 2 airstones for 15 clones I could make it fit more I just need to drill more holes but 15 is way more than enough for me. Works like one of those expensive units much cheaper :). Works for me.

humidiy domes

humidiy domes

anyone know why they say not use a dome for?

last time i cloned i didn't use a dome, but my clone leaves started to dry up some (possibly from lack of humidity?)

this time around am trying a dome just to see what the difference is......

any suggestions?

GoGreenGiant : I keep my temps @ 56-78 roots in 3 days-3weeks, Black Domina took 3 weeks everthing was 2 or less. If you try to clone with a flowering light schedule the clones will try to force flowers, taking away energy from the rooting process. Some people clone to sex with a flowering light schedule and will also get roots so it is possible however if you plan on vegging the clone it may revert to veg if it was under 12/12 for a while

I clone in RW starter cubes cut into 4 pieces. I put the cut @ 1/2 the 1" depth of the 1/4 cube. My cloners have 8X3" netpots cut into the lid and 2 bubble wands right under each row of pots. Istart the water line @ 1/4" up the cube and the cube wicks water to the stem making it soft (which helps with the rooting process, before I submerged the cube abit I had trouble w/cloning). Temps upwards of 75F help with the process, I use a 25W aquarium hearer for colder days set 76-78F. I let the water drop to @ 1/2" below the netpots and fill back to above the cubes usually 3-4 days this time of year.
