It's funny, I'm from Australia and when I look at your back yard it could be in any town in the central east coast of Australia. apart from driving on the wrong side of the road and your funny accents, America is very similar to Australia in many ways as we were heavily influenced by US culture (fashion, TV etc), even more so now days.
by the way if you are watering 3 times per day then top dressing with a mix of compost and other organic matter will help reduce the soil from drying out by reducing heat and evaporation..if the pots are drying out several times per day then shade the pots and top dress as well as hot pot temps will stress out plants.
