I'm with Harry on this one. Your friend ratted because he was afraid of jail and took another one out to save his ass.

In a way, you did the same thing. Did you warn him he was being set up? No. That doesn't bode well with me either. This is a man you admit you used as a connection to make money. Yet you spoke with him and said nothing. That's nothing more than a lie by omission. You also refer to him as a scumbag to justify you're saying nothing.

So where should my loyalty lay? With a person that has been a close friend and business partner for years?, or should my loyalty lay with a concept of Omerta?

So in your world, I should have warned off the junkie and basically said to my friend to f%$&ing bad, your plans go to shit because of the concept that you should not rat?

Sorry brother, but I will choose my friend everday of the week.

omerta isnt what ive said omerta is never talking to the police and telling tales at all, i certainly dont subscribe to a concept the groups who espoused dont evn follow

I don't think it has anything to do with loyalty. It has more to do with what's right, if you follow that.

When you get involved in this gig, you better know there may come a day that LEO comes a calling. Where I'm from there's an unwritten law that you do what you can to not help them.

I guess I'd have a hard time if it were a "good" friend ratting. I can't say if I could talk with someone on the phone and not tell them what was going down. I also know if they ratted my trust in them would be gone. I'd probably contact the dude, find some level 3 child molester and give him a hundred bucks to deliver it, lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if you're friend had a clean record and was in college, he probably would have gotten five yrs probation. It's hard to give up your freedom, but it's also hard to give up your dignity.

I am glad people have finally started bringing up the fact that this is a story about a "rat", or I guess how you call it across the pond, a "grass". I was in British_Bulldog's position, letting this thread pan out. It still makes for an interesting read and I think it brings up an important issue: > 90% of "major" drug busts are because someone said something and probably sold someone out. My friends who used to deal EXCLUSIVELY cannabis was sold out by someone who got popped dealing other things, giving the cops the promise that he would be a major bust. They raided his house and all they got was a couple of bongs and < 1 oz!

Thanks for sharing the story to highlight the fact that informants are everywhere and that people tend to save their own hides. Thanks Harry for calling this guy's buddy by what he is and giving me a new word: a grass.
