The dj bb f6s are special, my fave smoke. Nice merlot berry terps. Top is hot pink from light, looks cool though.

Man, others wish they could find Cotton Candy, White Rhino, or any other strain from yesteryear. And yet the one I want to see again is Johnny Blaze (and Blueberry Blast F1's)

Excellent description above, that the SSH version (Blue Dream) is mom weed and the NH version (Johnny Blaze) is dad weed.

Both parents were given as choice breeders by their respective breeders - DJ Short and Nevil. As opposed to Blue Dream which were made from commercial releases.

It seems are paths are similar. I grew johnny blaze and Hawaiian snow earlier in my growing hobby. I just thought every haze would be that great. Countless haze varieties from seed and clone later and nothing really lingered like those 2. They both have early nevilles lineage. I'll have to get you some f2s to compare.
Your Hawaiian Snow is excellent!. Great Ocimene levels! The one I tried is a more refined incense haze than much of the claims to it.

After a little asking around. The NH Red selected was the strongest citrus/top notes of a sizeable NH hunt. He received the seed from Arjan/Greenhouse.

The pollen donor was DJ shorts b133 that made True Blueberry, F-13, Blue Moonshine, Grape Krush ect.

Johnny Blaze was made in 2002 so the NH stock that Red used was the same that Nevil insisted on using for the Outback Haze. The '97 NH stock ran out in ~'02.

It is said the same parents are used. However, Nevil was particularly about selecting from the original stock.

The Johnny Blaze is a very unique F1 pedigree of Legends for sure. What's more. The B133 selection takes it back to the Thai. I read a post that I can't find now. The smoker said the Johnny Blaze was more of a true Thai effect that either NH or BB Thai were on there own.🙏✌️

@bloyd. Your preservation on this is one of the more rare haze pedigrees out there. Not only for reaching 23 years back, but the selections that made it are both from stock that is no longer around and some of the most sought after in their respective types.

Awesome project!

I asked about johnny blaze mom when I originally ran 2 packs in 2012.

I was always under the impression these were made at the same time as chimera's bb crosses (2005). I could be mistaken. Would explain why Chimera's bb stock has maintained while legends crosses mostly disappeared. I know Chimera used the bb130 male as well as reversed bb females as pollen donors.

I'm glad you liked the snow sample and detect ocimene. The snow has a unique terpene/trait in nice samples that makes the back of my mouth salivate like no other and I wonder if that could be ocimene. I plan to hunt a selection of these this year and hope to use your piff detective skills to narrow.

A friend asked Red directly a couple days ago, he may prefer anonymous at this point. The earliest post I could find was '05, but I think that is when ICmag began. There were a couple old forums mentioned, but I had never heard of them.

He was working close with DJ on it and it sounds like the pollen donor was b133 selection. Quite a throwback indeed!

Legends seed was going from '99-'07

*For some reason I couldn't open the link. Maybe I haven't been on this forum long enough for access?

I grew chimeras mix pack from that collaboration and holy shit every single individual was amazing. But 1 was a 1 in 10000 kinda plant. The gnarliest foxtails you could imagine with an exotic smell resembling cologne. I was all about chimera, spice of life way back. Just fire candy shop bud

Here is what red said way back. it's not letting me quote so I just cut/pasted. The old dj forums are locked to veterans I believe.

Red said:
It was a selection from seeds given to me in 2000. I picked the most lemon smelling haze out of the bunch-these are some of my most favorite plants I have ever grown!

I'm waiting to hear back, but cross referencing. I reread and I think the NH mom was selected in '02. The 133 male was selected from 12 resin males in a ~600 plant growth of the of the Thai (Oregon blue Thai) that was the line most of the subsequent work was selected from and Chimera was also involved in. This was '04-05 Vancouver..

Hopefully that clarifies. I had always assumed the Johnny Blaze was just a Sativa leaning blueberry rather that the parental Thai line. That sure makes it even more appealing!

From person experience the notation of lemon in reference to haze includes a lot more complexity than lemon that we would associate with hybrids.

DJ mentions having a strong preference to cedar Haze types, so that may be coming from his 133 blue thai

Very good information there stoneguru, thanks for seeking that out.

I still don't have it exactly right. Dj refers to the hunt with the B133 as "this one blueberry line" his code/notation is its own beast. There were numerous versions made. I don't know how many, but this might have been an f1 or F2 each letter is an Fgen or some combination that I don't recall before it switches to numbers. F=floral B= BB. He would sent one batch of a BB to one market and another to the other etc.

In any event, the one in Johnny Blaze sounds like it was a specific earlier version that is different than the ones we would be most familiar with.

He mentions having a special place for Cedar incense type and that is described in the JB smoke reports. The effect he favors from his early selection sounds like a playful, but powerful energy from the Oaxaca he found early, good Thai has a reputation for duration and coming in waves.

Whether identifying an outlier or selecting to further fix traits having insight into the breeders criteria sure helps with context to do so
