sup everyone...

I hooked up a friend of mine with a bunch of cuttings, he rooted them, and then put them straight into Fox Farm Ocean Forrest soil and has been watering with tap water... he doesn't measure his PPM or PH...

from the little I have seen of the plants, the new growth looks healthy enough but some of the lower to mid level growth is not so hot... there is necrosis both at the leaf tips turning dark and crispy and necrotic spots on the serrations... to me it looks like there are both deficiencies and toxicities so I suggested he has a PH or PPM issue, but he wants some second opinions and asked me to post these for him...

what do you all think?

any ideas?

Did you check the leaf from the first pic for mites and/or thrips? It kinda looks like mite damage to me but I am no pro, I am sure others more knowledgeable will chime in.

Check out P related issues. Lockout/def/etc... JF's info (pg. 1) details the crispy edges and what you describe/show as P issue...

I noticed that... and I checked... they are trichs

yea I noticed the P def... but he planted these into fresh ocean forest, so it shouldn't be suffering any defs not related to lock out, which lead me to think PH/PPM issues... as it has phosphorus, it just must not be available.

I think I am just going to tell him to flush with RO water, then a mild nute solution... any recommendations?

That's a good start, maybe a foliar too. I'd add back a lil Ca/Mg w the Ph'd RO. Then check runoff

think i have a mg Deficiency

think i have a mg Deficiency

Great thread you got going here. Hopefully someone can help me out a little with this one. Plants are in a UC system. ph around 6.0ish. the leaves that are showing this are the ones getting the most light. I think its a Magnesium Deficiency. If so and you agree what's the best course of action to fix it..5 weeks into flower..thanks

100% overfert...def too much nutes, if it was ffof then it was just too hot for the young plants...

next time cut the ffof half half with something like promix or something of the likes

Any thoughts on these? About 5 weeks in, unknown strains (Cindy, Afghan Haze, SSH cross possible). Soil less mix.

I have some plants in DWC that have root rot. I've tried to control the root rot but now the leaves are showing signs of nutrient deficiencies. Looks like Zinc to me but not sure. Is there any nutrient lock outs that occur when you have root rot?

Yes, iron for sure and maybe others. Iron chlorosis is very common with all types of root issues. But just adding iron probably won't help. Have you noticed an increase in pH? Iron is locked out at higher pH. Golf course turf managers can see when nematodes are an issue, which causes iron defs, due to the yellowing patches seen from a distance.

in no way am I trying to take credit from anyone including stitch, all I'm doing is "updating it" with better pics and a bit more info.

I think you did a good job of that. You don't need to be so reverent towards stitch, all s/he did was the same thing as you did. First good one of these guides to make the rounds that i cam across was the Plant Abuse Chart and Photos by Nietzsche from OverGrow that was around 1999/2000, at least.

You are stepping on nobody's toes and are only doing the same thing of those who's toes you fear you may tread upon.

I like the pictures you added. Your work here is definitely a positive contribution to overall grower knowledge.
