no shit. meat is WAY high, and quality of steaks i've bought recently makes me miss McDonalds hamburgers. ribeyes you can't cut with a chainsaw, gristle in filets, etc. damned pitiful...i'm wondering if ANY of the folks that got sick at the meat packing plants ever went back to their jobs. whoever is doing the butchering these days need to go into another line of work...

I pay $5 a pound for beef no matter the cut.

I buy a hog every spring and they raise it for me. Feed is $50 and I have to pay to have it butchered, which is pretty damn cheap. All in last year was 130 lbs of various pork products for under $300.

I still need to find a good source for chicken though. If I lived in the country I'd raise my own and find an Amish household to butcher and dress them for me for half the flock. Raise 100 chickens, get 50 dressed fryers at the end of the year. I've got a buddy who does that. He lives several hours away from me or I'd try to get in on that action.
