Its the high

Looks don't really matter. Once it's ground up for smoking, it all looks the same. However, taste is important. I don't want nasty tasting or harsh herb.

complete opposite for me….i dont care for the high or potency. if i need to get completely ripped il smoke concentrates. when it comes to flowers all i care about is taste and visual appeal…i would actually prefer an herb that tasted like OG or cookies but had a weak high so i could smoke more of it lol…

I totally agree that some are caught up way too much on taste and smell and forget that the reason most smoke is to get high. Looks dont matter as long as it isn't too leafy. That being said, I'm also of the belief that terpenes affect the high.
"Cannabis ususally contains a significant amount of a terpene called beta-caryophyllene (BCP), which contributes to the aroma and flavor of cannabis. The study shows that this terpene, also found in other legal herbs, spices and food plants, activates the CB2 receptor and acts as a non-psychoactive anti-inflammatory. Because it binds to a cannabinoid receptor, it is considered a cannabinoid. WOW!

Question: Does non-psychoactive BCP compete with psychoactive compounds for receptor binding?; Can high BCP content reduce the psychoactive effects of cannabis?"

I found this here: http://cannabis-science.com/aroma_flavor.html

This makes sense to me. There are some flavors that really don't seem to get me all that high. Ive also had weed that tasted horrible and got me ripped.

Interesting. Quick search brought this up:
"Caryophyllene oxide is the component responsible for cannabis identification by drug-sniffing dogs."
So, this is the stuff that dogs hit on. Problem is, it is present in other plants, including hops, rosemary, basil, oregano, cloves, and others.

Yeah the high is what we all want but with all the strains out there why settle for one or the other? There is enough variety in my opinion, that one can find a strain that has a great high, a great taste and great looks.

i think many people are hung up on taste and looks because they are much easier to grade. to judge the high of a strain properly you need experience and time.
imho you need to smoke a strain for several weeks almost exclusively in all kinds of settings to be able to render a qualified judgment of its effects.

for me:
high - most important factor
taste - very nice to have but high beats taste every time
looks - don't give a fuck about looks

Maybe that's why drug dogs are wrong about half of the time. It's really just a BS tactic used to gain entry when someone tries to exercise their constitutional rights.

It's about the high of course. For me at least. I mean when I go out for beer why would I want the non alcoholic , water-down flavor shit(unless I'm tryin to quit or some shit). Just like weed . Why would I want some shit that doesn't get me high ?

High first, taste second , looks and smell are whatever unless I'm trying to sell

Using your analogy, I don't have to drink 151 to get a good buzz!

That being said, quality of stone is most important, above all to me..

Too many years under my belt, for 'one hit quit' flowers, anymore.

Maybe it's time for me to try some concentrates, I've not had yet..

Butane turns me off tho'!

Ive been to many of the storefronts in the Bay and many of the strains ive sampled taste pretty good but the high was fuzzy and confusing, unoriginal and bland. The high from GSC is not very pleasant but its what everyone likes, I dont understand, am I just too particular or spoiled?

Spark on mission had some Koni Bum, and I sampled 3 grams, the high from this strain was energetic but not confusing and tiring, It didnt leave any after shocks, afterwards I didnt feel as if I had smoked anything the whole day, this is new to me.. It wasnt weak but it didnt have other stuff with it. Many strains Ive tried never truely leave until a day or two later.

Im from the same area and I'm blown away by the variety to choose from these days but...some of these great smelling/tasting strains are very boring when it comes to the high. I feel the same about GSC.

As far as looks, I think we mostly agree that it does not matter, yet all I see at any of the collectives in town are bald buds. It's as if the collectives themselves are driving this practice. It may also be the reason why the high doesn't seem complete.

Or maybe I just smoke too much of my own shit

I would say high is most important , lets not forget where/why we started .
high
taste
smell
I really like break up good herb , smell it breath it in , get the grease on me.

AS for the buying herb at store fronts I have never been to any US dispensrys ever , but all the weed I have ever seen at Canadian dispensarys is sub par if u are a conosure or a grower , a lot of the weed looks like its been tumbled,to remove tricomes.

Good God almighty 151 just for a buzz? Your liver must hate you. I used to drink 151 from the freezer ah the good ol days. Circa 5 yrs ago. But Ya I agree quality over potency for sure . A good come down is a must as well. None of the burn out feeling for me. Usually a good clean tasting flower usually has a nice come down in the end . Me thinks anyways

Also I smoke concentrates I mix em with my buds too. Problem for me with concentrate you build a higher tolerance and the high last like 20 min then u need a recharge

Ugg no, I drink beer only.

Just saying I don't need 151 and all of it's alcohol, to get a buzz.

Same is true for marijuana. It doesn't have to have a thc % that's sky high. :tiphat:
