Is this seedling allright?

Heyas.

So I just started my first little experimental grow in a PC case. I germed two femmed WWs from GHS by letting them sink in a glass of ro-water and from there into paper towels, and then into coco filled 1x1" cells (with some perlite in there for some unknown reason...).

The taproot of one of the seeds unfortunately grew out the top of the coco, and even though it looked like it would be alright after I gently repositioned it, the whole seedling soon turned dark green/black and just crumbled up.

The second seedling however looked very healthy, and I guess it still does. It grew quite nicely in the first four days, but after that it kind of just stopped growing. It's now been a total of 8 days, and it still looks like it did on day 4. The second pair of true leaves started to emerge, and then nothing.

I have it on 18/6 under 96W of CFLs (66W of 6500K, and 30W of 2700K), about 5 cm from one of the lamps. Been watering with pH 6 ro-water every 36 hours or so, and the temps at the plant is around 26C. No idea what the humidity is (guessing low).

So should I be worried? Is the poor thing struggling, or is it just building roots? Maybe it has some evil plan and is just trying to surprise me? I guess I should transplant it soon, but I'm afraid it mightn't have rooted out properly...

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Here are some pics (the fan blowing on it is running at a low speed, just for some cooling):

Doesn't look too bad. It's better if you fill out the form so people can see the exact details that they need to figure out your problem but from what I see you're humidity is really low and that plant should be under a dome with the vents opened some. Small roots like that need humidity to fatten up. Also make sure you don't over water when it's that small. You want the roots to have to look for it to grow. Good luck!

Edit: Oh I thought I was in the infirmary. If you have any problems you can go over there and fill out the form with all the info in the sticky. Looks like you have some knowledge though.

Thanks for the reply!

Reason I'm posting here and not in the infirmary is that I don't actually know whether everything's ok or not. Is it normal for a seedling to just stop growing after a few days of nice growth? Am I perhaps only being an impatient fool?

I guess I could water even less, like every 48 hours? Could also try making that little greenhouse to up the humidity.

Seeing that one of the two already died, I really want for this fellow to make it. Even though this is my first attempt ever at growing something, I was hoping to at least get to the stage where I could start some nutes! :)

i'd repot it ^^ from seeds you get a taproot and normally these are as long/longer than you your seedling check to see if the root has poked out of the bottom if this happens in can kill the part of the root sticking out

Thanks for the help!

So I repotted it on that night, and the roots were indeed at the bottom. They hadn't filled out the sides of the coco, but I guess it's ok anyway.

Now come another frustrating problem. I decided to start another seed, and did like I did last time. Everything was great, tap root emerged and grew rapidly, and was carefully placed and covered in some moist coco.

It emerged from the ground a few hours later, but now the same thing that happened to my last seedling that died, seems to be happening to this one aswell.

It doesn't seem to want to stand up and lose its husk... Now this wouldn't worry me if it wasn't for the fact that the cotyledons are turning yellow/grey, and one has a big brown spot on it. Looking exactly the same as the last one which died a short while after behaving this way.

What could be the problem? The coco? Temps? Humidity? Not putting it deep enough into the coco? I'm really clueless, and the more I fail the more grow space and money is wasted... :dunno:

This is the seedling about 24 hours after emerging above ground. Maybe you can't really tell by the pic, but on the left cotyledon is a big brown spot, and the leaves are quite grey compared to how they looked on my successful plant at this stage. Is there hope?

This is my working plant some 6 days after the pic in the first post (14 days total)... Not exactly great growth, the leaves have curled a bit (overwatering?), and the green on the leaves has a greyish tone to it, but at least the plant doesn't seem to have a death wish like everything else...

Again, many thanks for the help! I'm determined to make this work! :)

I'm new to all this too. There's so much information on later stages of growth, but there doesn't seem to be anything like a picture example of seedling problems. It's more like the little things make it or they don't, and eventually you have diagnosable problems in the vegging stage.
If curling leaves is a sign of overwatered seedling, I think I've overwatered one of mine. I noticed basically the exact same thing on only one of seven seedlings I've got going at the moment.

I need to take some more pics!

I too would like to know if a stall like this is normal, because mine are taking their sweet time too. I think this may be considered a n00b thing to do, fretting over seedlings. I'm trying to just let them do their thing and not mess with them. Easier said than done!
I'm growing some Early Wonder Skunk, hoping for a late May harvest, but fearing my n00b mistakes will not allow success. :p

Your seedling not shedding it's hull is pretty common. Simply ease the hull off by hand.
