is this normal

Hey all,

This is my second grow, my first was feminised Supergirls and jolly nice they were to.

so my second grow is 4 Northern light (from female seeds) all is well, i am in day 35 of my veg (18/6) and the girls are starting to show sex.... is this normal?

i didn't think they would do that until i put them to 12/12.
it's on the right and split wide apart.

Plants are about 2 foot tall, and look healthy enough

is all well? Should i switch to 12/12 or can/should i continue to veg??

Two of them are in biobiz all mix and two are in BioBiz Light Mix (additionally feeding the light mix pair with Biobiz grow solution which happens to smell like chocolate milk....)

all 4 are under a 400w MH (will be flowering under a 400w HPS)

All are showing signs of sex (all female by the looks of it)

.

Anyway thanks for popping by please feel free to impart your wisdom :)

dude that thing is begging for you to flower her... thats all.. unless u have some funky seeds

right now if they are two feet, thats at least 4+ plus feet when done... to me, thats a very big indoor plant... specially if there is more than one...

i vote to flower them!

Yeah usually when plants start to show their sex, it means that they are mature and are ready to flower.

What kind of lights are you using? This is mine from yesterday. Day 34 of Northern lights.. I didnt begin to even think of looking for signs of sex.. my lights are on 24/7 and are 400w MH.

Dan4 - they are under 400w MH like yours but i am on a 18/6 cycle. never really thought about always on veg phase as it doesn't mimic natural conditions and the plant doesn't get any shut eye as it were,

how close are your lights? what soil you using? i am on organics only

As said, preflowers appear when a plant is ready to flower. If you want them bigger, you can still veg them, they won't flower until you put them in 12/12. Some plants will start to flower alone if they are left long enough in vegn but that rarely happens.

I have an outdoor plant that has been showing preflowers for more than a month (summer down here), it'll be huge by the time it blooms. Nice opportunity to take some clones, if you ask me.

Peace

i am using organic soil also.. The lights are about 15 inches from the tops of the plants.. interesting comparing growth patterns. Mine are shorter only about 12-14 inches but very bushy.

i think i am just damn lucky with mine being the size they are, mind you, yours don't look half bad at all Dan, like you say, nice and bushy.

what size pots are you using? mine are in 3 gallon pots that could be why, they fill up their pots real quick.

there could be all sorts of reasons, the temps should be fine if your lights are always on, infact heat stress could be a factor with the lights at 15" from plant top, are you using any ventilation?

may be they need a feed (i sometimes top mine up twice a week with a weak solution of Bio Biz grow)

Well, i started in small cups.. then progressed to 1 qt pots and then 3 gallon. I have 5 gallon pots ready but am waiting for a week or so before I do a final transplant. For nutes.. My soil is good i believe and gave them a mexican bat guano feeding last week with some molasses and i feed them foilarly every two weeks with liquid kelp. I kind of like the way mine are growing.. lol.. There are lots of new undergrowth and truthfully, i want to wait until they are about 18-24 inches before i flower which i plant to do in about 2-4 weeks. I also dont top or trim. I decided this because this is my first grow and i wanted to more or less observe the plants grow charicteristics. When i grow clones next batch i may scrog or trim. They are growing fast, i swear judging by the light distance, one grew 1-2 inches last night. I am wondering if the grow charachteristics are due more to the light schedule. Also by strain is Joey Weed.. What are yours again? Maybe they are slightly different?

we should have started a northern lights thread.. would have been interesting to have several peoples grows to all compare with each other... We must have started almost the exact same time.

I never top or fim my seedplants so I can see their physical structure for when I choose clones, just because she preflowers doesnt mean you have to flower right away, you can continue to veg as long as you like. Most strains I've grown dont actually double in size anyway, flo damn sure did though, probably tripled. If you plan on taking cuttings its best to go towards the bottom of tyhe plant and pull cuts with zero or few pistils, you dont want pistils on your new cuts if it can be avoided.

i germ'd mine then put them in peat blocks then straight into the pots they are in now, i read somewhere that everytime you move you stress them, and everytime you stress them they stop growing, maybe thats why...

as for seeds, mine are from female seed.nl, they are feminised (and so far they they all look female).

looks like we did start them at the same time, i am happy to compare notes as it were and am always willing to learn. my last grow was great but i cropped too early, smoke still real nice though.

how long do you think you will flower for? does your strain recommend you wait until 80 percent of the trichs turn amber?

i have heard different things about the 80% rule. sometimes you may not want to wait for too much amber as it give a cleaner more uppy high, where as the leaving them until there are 80% amber (which means they are spent in terms thc production) gives you a couch lock type high, i admit i have yet to test the difference but i intend to with this grow.

There are some threads about it around, i think someone explains it on one of mine.

as for how long i will flower for.... until they are ready, i really screwed my last grow by getting impatient

what did you have in mind for your flowering time?? and are you swaping your Light source from the MH bulb to a more yellow light such as an HPS, i am lucky and my setup supports both

yes i have a 400w HPS bulb for flowering and i said 8 weeks because 6-8 was what was listed by the breeder for flowering time. It all depends how many females i get. I may harvest some earlier with more of a cloudy amber trich ratio to test the difference but I wanted to be consistant for choosing my mother plant. I wanted to judge the best harvest and differences in the high among each plant. ( I plan on marking and keeping the buds of each plant in separate jars). the clones will be taken in a few weeks and i will be veging those until i am completely done. I also want to make sure i have viable clones before i flower.

Thunderpob afetr you've grown out clones for awhile you'll understand why you want to start with good "veg" cuttings, free of pistils if possible. You dont want you vegging clone to be full of pistils,it seems to drag down the viability of the plant.Thats why none of my cuttings have ever seen a 12/12 p[hotoperiod,I always take cuttings before 12/12.When I've taken cuttings after 12/12,my vegging clones usually were pistilly and had retarded non-serrated single and 3 bladed fans.Same when taking cuttings from a revegged plant. You can take a pistilly clone and veg and flower her out no problem, its when you start taking cuttings from clones that have been under a 12/12 photoperiod is when I've run into trouble. Its so easy to avoid all this, just take all your cuttings in veg before you go 12/12 starting with the original seedplant and from every clone down the line.I wish I could show you my blockhead clones that I vegged for a few weeks and just put in the flowerroom yesterday, close to 3 years old and just as lush and pistil free as if they were the first "generation".Had I taken any cuttings after 12/12 had started anywhere during the last couple years my clones would not be nearly as vibrant, they'd be full of pistils and funky fan leaves if I'd still be growing it lol
