Has the Bohemian city of Prague, now replaced Amsterdam as the new drug capital of Europe? A month ago the Czech Republic approved the decriminalization of possession of a slew of drugs including marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, LSD, meth and even heroin in small amounts.

Under the new legislation, a person can have up to 15g of marijuana, 1g of cocaine, 1.5g of heroin, 4 ecstasy tablets, 5 LSD tablets and 2g of amphetamines, all for what is being labeled as personal use. Possessing higher amounts still brings a criminal penalty.
Neighboring countries including Germany and Austria are concerned about smuggling of these drugs into their countries.

So would you consider visiting Prague instead of Amsterdam?

I just want to add that I've been to Prague, and even without the decriminalization, it was a great place to visit. The food, music, beer, old European charm, people, etc. are great attractions in themselves. I'd go back in an instant if I was in the region. Find out how the bohemians really live!

Weird only 1 gram of cocaine but 1.5 grams of heroin. 1.5 grams of heroin is enough heroin for a couple days of use for a recreational user, but 1 gram of coke it not even enough for half a day.

Just thought it was odd.

If you can try to get a room a the Hotel Praha. Great big ol' Soviet monstrosity that overlooks the city. You can pretend you're a politburo member or a KGB spy! Might be too expensive these days, a bit far from the center too. It's hard to find a good room cheap in Prague anymore.

I'd vote for moving the 420 to Prague, but Gypsy'll have to pay off the Russian mafia first...They control everything in the city now. I bet it's the mafia staying in the Hotel Praha these days...(prob a lot of former KGB are now Russian mafia).

Prague is awesome, I visited Amsterdam and Prague in the same trip.

First off - the hostels there are really cheap compared to a lot of other European countries. If you take the train into Prague you will run into many people giving out pamphlets for cheap living - this is only if you are on a tight budget though.

Prague has a 6 level nightclub which doesn't feel as impressive as it sounds, but the closed in, hot, steamy atmosphere adds a little to the ambiance.

Weed is easy to secure in Prague. If you go on webehigh.com (stoner's travel guide) you will see a night club spot marked in there called Chateau Rouge. The instructions detail that you can ask the bartender who will direct you to a nice black man hanging near the bathrooms selling dimes of dank. The instructions were 100% spot on and everything worked out as explained, but I don't know if that is still going on.

Prague's architecture is unreal, the buildings lined with statues, varying artsy remnants on each different structure.

Prague has a decent tram system that will get you anywhere within 20-25 minutes of the city itself. On crowded trams you will notice most of the young people will give their seats up to elders, handicapped, or mothers. If you are getting weird looks from the locals on a tram and find that you are in a seat while older people are standing, you may want to consider a gesture of good will to give up your seat. I've seen even the most rebellious looking female give her seat up to an old crippled woman in Prague.

Prague is also one of the few places in our travels that we were propositioned to buy cocaine, but I never have and probably never will.

We wound up staying in one really cheap hostel that had a slightly creepy aura but made better home than other euro hostels for the day or 2 stay.
For slightly more pay we stayed in a really nice hostel top floor with roof skylights.

Prague makes for an awesome experience, if you're feeling homesick you can go to the TGI friday's they have in the city center.

most hostels and hotels will have maps for you to get around easy as well as instructions for trams/tickets.

Prague cannot be the new Amsterdam until the allowance of the coffee shop and the brothel. Dealing with underground dealers outside of a bar or club is usually a sketchy risk. It will not be a replacement until I can be guaranteed ganja purchases from a shop, not a street corner.

I hope this serves as a few helpful tidbits for anyone else going to Prague.

weird amounts there... and what exactly is a tablet of lsd? I've seen some pressed L pills, but they were 250 micrograms each and expensive. I can't imagine they're prevalent since I saw them one time 4 years ago. they should do it balls to the wall, legalize possession of a gram of L!

I have been to both as well and what I remember is that the girls in Prague are smokin. The funny thing is that they allow or now condone the people how demand it or the demand but I am sure put the people in jail for selling it. Sound like some bad police like the US would come up with. Legalize the possession but not the production and distribution, I guess all politicians US AND foreign just don't think. I guess it's good they at lest got part of it right.
