people who call it "pot" or "dope" around here we usually say sound to much like cops. i'm glad most of you feel the same way about those words for a long time i thought it was just me being paranoid.

we usually just call it "nugs", "bud", "green", and of course "weed"

Ganja, buds, kind, reefer, I'm actively trying to stop myself from using the negative words to ID cannabis b/c I grew up calling it marijuana and dope and pot and weed and such. People correct me when I say dope sometimes and say that only refers to H. I say they need to live a few more years, but I still don't think that words helps us any.

backcountry - good thread! i personally do not like the terms: pot, weed, dope or marijuana, it sounds negative to me. i like to say cannabis when i am having an intellectual (or close to it) discussion. i find myself mostly not saying it, but eluding to it and always making up non sensical names. people that know will know what you are eluding to and those who don't should not anyway , at least in my opinion & experience.

pot: doogins, scrabulons, dizzles, scrizzlies, dizzlies, crumb-diddly, ernie wilson, frosted barnies, frosted no-nees, cribbles and flakes, tuskins and jakes..

pot smoker:
dope, doper, dope-head, fuzzy doogin, lembago, green cheese tube....

face it, there's no one word and there never will be

and it's a shame people are judgin based on terminology use

if i hafta give it a name, it depends on who im talking to.

on here.......cannabis

around normal tokers who don't know much about it, i kinda like to play dumb so out comes the slang......

herb
green (too easily confused for cash)
good stuff
goodness
happiness
'my girl' (goin home to my girl)
"finer things" (i.e. I enjoy the finer things in life)
ganja

i do call it 'weed' sometimes if i just wanna be straightforward and let another toker know what im talkin about, especially if they're drunk and won't know what i mean unless i say weed, pot, or marijuana(<which i basically never say)

I feel like if I call it cannabis around tokers then its a lil tip off that i might grow.......prolly just me being paranoid, but i like to pretend that i don't know anything for my security

Cannabis is the Latin word for it, so I would say if any of the names were totally correct, that would be the one.

I guess it all matters what Cannabis is to you, I have a bit more respect for the plant and those who use it responsibly to use a name like Pot(head) or Dope, its almost like using the N word to describe Africans.

When smokers describe it as "pot" or "dope" it seems like they are disrespecting themselves, its like they are giving credit to all the lies the government has shoved down our throats for decades.

I guess what it boils down to is that some of us think like activists, and some of us just don't give a damn.

I prefer to call it Cannabis. Around my area everyone calls it "grass". :joint:

I remember, i've heard the term "pot" for the very firts time in the early 90's in some american movie or tv show, and translation was "trava" (the usual slang term in all ex-Yugoslavia countries, literally means "grass"). Since english is not my native language, i was pretty confused with it, and i thought, it gotta be a translation mistake. I mean, i knew pot before that, like a coocking pot or flower pot. Somehow, i've never got familiar with this term.
When i write or speak english, i use terms ganja, weed, grass, but most often Cannabis. You cann't go wrong with that term, it's simply means what it is. O.K. ganja too, but that's more refering to buds (at least in my mind), and when i say "Cannabis" i think of a whole plant. Eh, i wish i could grow only buds from the begining ... hm, no, leaves are nice, they makes the whole plant looks more beautiful.

In US dialect of English, the use of the word "Pot" is like to describe a chamber pot, or a toilet, basicly describing the nobel herb as something akin to extrement or other trash that should be discarded.

Strictly 'cannabis' when talking to 'laymen'

weed, grass, bud, ganj when talking to a budbuddy

My vote goes for cannabis.
