Is it OK to flush coco with bleach ?

B

Buxxy

i have god damn fungus gnats. mother fu*kers, im pissed. Id like to take cuttings form what is left, take the coco where this fuckers happily eat roots of my plants and flush it completely with bleach added to water. Is this good plan or not ?

Ive noticed them in saucers with waste water. Little larvaes move in water w/o any problems.

get mosquito dunks from home depot/walmart etc, break one up and let it soak in a watering can or sprinkle it on top of your media and water as normal, kills fungus gnats easy.

couple of more tips:

Fill the top layer of the pot with like .5-1in of sand. gnats hate sand.
Get no pest strips hung up! They help a lot with the ones flying around, or you can get a bowl of beer or apple juice with a coupel drops of soap in it. they are attracted to the smell and will instantly drown.

Id love to try this, excepts I cant. I havent found dunks here in EU shops at all. Tried UK an german amazon without results so this is out of question.

Also I tried once before with sand but those fuckers just kept flying as usual. So Ive added sticky tape and it works, no more flies but STILL worms left.

heres a shot of one Ive just took

I've used AzaMax, a neem derivative, with success as a soil drench. It messes with the larva's moltings so that they can't function. Poor guys.
:good:

buxxy,

Azamax/Azatrol work well. A cheaper alternative is Spinosad, different brands available. You can search or use the one I use, Green Light brand from Lowe's. It's organic, easy to apply [drench], and I haven't noticed ANY phytotoxic effects.

I treat all new coco within a week of bringing it into the room. Haven't seen fungus gnats in a very long time. Also, for prevention, I keep yellow sticky traps hanging always. They're cheap and catch most flyers before they can do anything. Good luck. =granger

OK guys I really appreciate your help and effort unfortunately Im bumed since most of the products you recomend me is not available here in EU states. However I did hear about (p)nematodes to be good partner in crime for battling fucking gnats. Ill see where could I find this.

Fungus gnat

They are not bad for the plant at insect-stage

but as larvae they eat the fibrils of the plant.

Combat

There are so called „Nematodes“ (biological combating) which destroy ´

the larvar from the inner out.

They need to be mixed with water and showered down over the plants.

Important: Keep the substrate wet all the time to secure

the useful creatures survival.

The insects

Use Neudosan or install yellow slabs.

btw:

- Why isnt good flushing w/ bleach ?
- Is it perhaps good sign to find larvae in saucers ? I mean they did "fel off" the pot after I used some pesticide containing perythrum or something

You need to find another version of mosquito dunks, because they are amazing. Once per grow I crumble up one and spread about 1/4 tsp of it as a top dressing under my drippers. Once I started doing this about 3 weeks later I have never seen e since. That was December.

GNATROL

order some on ebay; get the 16oz bottle;

make sure your water is cholrine free; i add the gnatrol @ 3 tsp per gallon (not sure what that is in metric) and an airstone let it bubble overnight; by the next day there is a slight smell from the water like pond scum; thats a good thing..... water with this mixture every other day for at least 4-5 waterings.

then just use lightly as needed if you notice the little fuckers make a return.

and i know alot of people say the mosquito dunks work; but the gnats i had ate those things for breakfast and came back; i ground up the dunks with a cheese grater and top dressed all my coco with it; and also had a full dunk floating 24/7 in a 5 gallon bucket i used as a reservoir; the gnats were still there.

my vote; get it all i was running dunks with gnatrol. do it up! kill those fuckers

edit: people suggested DE and nematodes to you as well; as far as i know you can use BT(dunks and gnatrol); DE; and nematodes all at the same time and that should annihilate gnats

bleach will kill all benifical's in your medium. I'm sure it will kill your plant as well. Not recommended for use on plants.

When I read this and saw the user name, I was sure it was going to be a joke thread. (Boxxy being a girl on the internet who went viral.)
