is it normal for the white pistils to turn brown?

Because bro, your preflower pistils should be snow white, the turning of pistils is a sign of sexual maturity unless its being caused by some other source

Pistils can turn brown prematurely (not all, a little percent of them) from diferent reasons:
-from bad weather (outdoor grows)
-if you flower them a little then veg them again a short period and you put them again in flower (and from any stress during flower I think it's possible )
-sign of pollination

So, you can't say that you are sure it's a plant problem or disease. Of course, this is also a possibility.

Have luck. :joint:

Well my C'99 plant has brown preflower pistils by now, the first 3-4 weeks they were white but now they turned to a light brown colour... So basically it just means she is ready to flower?

I agree, you didnt do anything dorky like go to flower then back into veg right?I thought we had normal indoor circumstances

nope...Well I gradually lower the light cycle every few days, from 20/4 to 19/5, 18/6, 17/7, 16/8 and now 15/9 to stop at 12/12....Can this be the cause?

No that wouldnt cause it,those are just preflowers, the plant hasnt gone through the hormonal change brought on by the 12/12 cycle.Sure they're not dusty and dirty ha ha?

as in pollinated? nope they're not, there are is no pollen source in my grow room.. hmmm I have to say I vegged my plant pretty long (2 months), I just think this is normal for the older preflowers to turn brown?

It may be for that particular pheno,if the plant is healthy I wouldnt be concerned just keep an eye out for male flowers

dre86 i am having the same problem u are. 2 C99s (JW f2s) in veg w preflowers turning brown. i dont think theyre pollinated, but i went ahead and sprayed em down just in case. they've been vegging for over 2 months.

mine have been stressed heavily tho.. brown wilting leaves at the bottom, temporary fung gnat problem, light leaks here&there, temp fluctuations, lack of air exchange.... i havent been very nice to them :/ oh also i recently switched em from 400wHPS to flouros to keep them from growing too big until i can set up a better growroom..

so either the C99 has a trait of browning pistils in extended veg, the plants have been pollinated, or the pistils are turning brown as an SOS to get in better growing conditions :p

man if your plants are in veg stage they can't be pollinated. They're probably brown because of stres or probably they want to show you they're ready for flowering.

yep ^I think that too. The browning starts from the upper point from the hair then gradually (over a few days) works its way down till the hair is brown

Yep, in my experience, the preflower pistils have always turned brown quickly, either in end of veg or early flowering... no pollination, no stress, no disease, just nature...

Well I must be growing something different because I've never seen a brown female pistil in the veg stage, normally mine will stay totally unturned for the first 30 days of 12/12 then they may start to turn a bit

while we're on the subject.....If a plant haas been pollinated, and the hairs have turned brown, seeds are forming, but of course the buds are not very dense. Is there any hope of leaving the plant in flower, even though the seeds are mature? In other words....will the buds get bigger, or is what you see, is what you get till you chop?

Cheers,
SH

when this happens to me, the buds keep getting thicker but the resin production is not good.either pollen or medium that's flying throgh the room.Coco does that

I'm not sure what you mean but I'd just normally flower the plant until maturity

OK...but do you notice the buds fatten up in the final two weeks like buds that have not been pollinated do?

Cheers,

Sure they will, they'll just be seeded. The amount of seeds depends on how much pollen they were exposed to,it could be many or just a few
