Is it just me?

Who hates this 'festive' season?

Pressured into buying a whole load of shit that nobody needs that'll get thrown away after a week, horrible weather, forced to spend time with people you cant stand, city shuts down, everything 10 times more expensive than usual, emotionally blackmailed into feeling some kind of affinity with the rest of this self-involved, shallow shitheap of a society...

Roll on January.

This festive season to me anyways, means not much more that spending time with my family, I could not care less what anyone else is doing, or how self absorbed they are.

The gift thing is overdone, but I really don't care if I got anything, as long as there is family and friends around, lots of food, and a full bong, I am set.

I feel bad for you that, you are not going to enjoy what the rest of us are.

But have a Merry Christmas

Thanks and the same to you. But seriously dont feel bad for me, I honestly dont care.

I dont really get on too well with my family, so thats probably why it means nothing to me. Im not a complete scrooge, its more the fact that we seem to be pressured by society into enjoying Christmas that winds me up, Ive just had someone scream down the phone at me for being miserable for ****s sake!

Not knocking anyone who does enjoy it, but it feels like I'm getting victimised just for going against the grain lol.

I always make the decision whether I wanted to be involved or not. To hell with what anyone else thought, because like everything else, they'll get over it. Christmas, especially, is for the kids. It's a magical time for them. As we get older, the excitement wanes and that festive mood is more difficult to maintain along with the fact that we know Xmas has been so commercialized.

yeah i'm not a big fan either. the family/conversations I dont mind so much, but the whole consumerism fad that's been going around all month and peaking today sucks!! I live right next to a target and walmart and grocery stores, and traffic has been at a standstill for weeks. Whenever I need to buy something, I've gotta devote an hour or two when the place is 5 minutes away.. it's pure insanity.

I'm all for buying things, but why save it for december or buy crap for people that already have everything? Have we really watched commercials long enough to beleive that people wont like us unless we give them things? (jewelry commercials make me sick) My story this year is that expenses were kicking my ass and I just couldn't afford to buy presents on top of everything. If they think less of me, oh well. I've taken to celebrating festivus instead.

I hate the season. The over commercialization of X-Mass is growing worse by the year. In the US stores start putting out X-Mass crap right after Halloween now. It drives me nuts. I enjoy spending time with friends any time of the year. I do not need some over commercialized made up holiday to make me want to give my friends a present. I give them a present when the mood strikes.

The only thing I do enjoy about the holiday is my daughter who is 4 and she is a believer and to see her eyes light up on X-Mass morning is something I will cherish. It won't be long before she isn't a believer.

Festivus indeed!!

I'm not big on holidays, especially Christmas. Mostly because of the religious aspect of it. Geez, don't get me started on "jesus". I normally don't like hanging out with my relatives and the holidays just add to that feeling. Man oh man, the seasonal guilt trip is horrible. "But you need to come see your family, it is the holidays, don't be selfish!" Bah, screw Christmas. I can't afford to buy everyone in my family presents. The only present I bought this year was a pack of 20 John Wayne movies for my dad, and it was even five dollars!

Eh, its not so bad. I just get stoned out of my mind before going to the relatives and then when I get there I consume large quantities of alcohol :)

Just try to be thankful, lots of people don't have any family or friends.

no no no... its not just you i also hate it. its become nothing more than a time for people to consume and waste as much shit as possible because i guess thats how you celebrate your gods birthday. sounds quite shitty to me but i don't expect much more from a religion that celebrates the death of jesus with a ****ing easter bunny that lays chocolate eggs.

thankfully im going camping tomorrow and tonight im sipping on some aged whiskey with my brother and making dinner and after that we're gunna' smoke some fine herb. this is how christmas should be spent. we're not worried about shitty gifts we don't need we're just going to spend a little time together.

Ahh the only real good thing about Christmas is having your family all around.. They could be gone for good tomorrow.

I have always had a feeling that the days around mid-december have some sort of negative energy flux, perhaps because of astrological alignments or maybe just because it happens to be the shortest daylight of the year......people seem more depressed, more car accidents seem to happen, the weather tends to be dreary and overcast, etc......

Humans developed the Christmas holiday (formerly the Pagan holiday of the winter equinox) to fight this negative energy.....that is why there is an emphasis on family reunions and gift-giving and large food celebrations around this time of year.....this is my theory, anyway.....

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

A good friend sent this to me a couple of days ago, I thought it applied to the situation.

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed
by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes
frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning
yourself.

It's by nietzsche if you where wondering.
