Is getting stoned the same as getting high?

and actually getting 'stoned' is a term refering to being drunk as well, it's from the old days for sure.......

Yeah, this is what I thought of first when I saw this thread....... before the popularity of Cannabis, "stoned" was a term used to mean shit-faced drunk, or wasted on alcohol.

I've found that in some areas, "getting high" seems to refer often to using Meth or Coke more than Cannabis, shame shame.

As most people here agrees, you get high from sativa and stoned from indica. But, technicaly speaking, too much sativa will get you stoned in the end.
Some other substances get you either high or stoned. You get high from cocaine and get stoned from heroine. Not sure where i could put acid and other tripping stuff. Hm, it would be rather stoned than high.
Alcohol gets you high in the begining and in the end... well, more dead than stoned.

Thanks for the answers folks. It's cleared it up for me.

Getting high still sounds more serious to me than getting stoned - but that's just because it seems to be a generic term for an energetic euphoric state. Meth heads get high - pot heads get high - but the actual "high" is very different.

i dont know but i always thought of the term Get High, seems dirty. it kind of ticks me of when my square buddys, or the ones that just drink ask me am I high. i always tell them naw im stoned, lit, or blown

Yeah..pretty much what everyone else said. To me, "high" is that chink-eyed, permasmile stuff where everything is just great. "Stoned" is generally quite the same, except the permasmile (for me) is usually replaced by a wide open mouth and a stupid stare.

Yeah I agree with that i once left some k2 too long like 70 days and it just left me with no energy and feeling dopey and clouded. earlier harvests give clearer better high but there's a risk of losing flavour. tis about the balance i guess.

In comparing attitude, in a psych sense, it's difficult to choose a difference. Both people out having fun and people with issues get high or stoned for their "reason". If comparing getting high and stone to "smoking pot", there is a difference. Again in a psych sense, people smoking pot is seen as a daily thing, while I can imply someone getting high or stoned to avoid an issue.

Then there's an actually stoning to consider here, as in having stones tossed your way.

Another thing I have realized is that even when I do smoke Sativa dom plants that get me that "high", it usually turns into more of a "stoned" feeling as the best part of the "high" wears off in 30-90 minutes. Smoking more might get me "high" again for a shorter period of time, but generally the more I smoke after the initial "high", the more "stoned" I feel quicker.

But I have to say that all buds do get me "high" for a period of time before I get "stoned", even pure Indicas.

Indeed. I'm not a strict medical user... I'm fortunate to be in very good health at this point in my life... but I'm not a partier. I don't smoke to party and get 'f**ked up' to 'rock out' or to 'get wild'. I smoke when and where it benefits me and enhances my day. Never when it might take away from my enjoyment of my day and my experience of my life.
