Is Amtrak Federal Jurisdiction?

Wondering if you enter federal jurisdiction when you ride Amtrak trains.
I heard a story of someone in California getting caught with a small amount of medical pot at a federal park, so their 215 recommendation wasn't valid since they entered federal jurisdiction.

Anyone know if Amtrak is federal jurisdiction or state? Think its safe to ride with a small amount of medical pot with a recommendation?

Thanks,
Mr^^

Interesting question! Amtrak & RR tracks often have their own "law enforcement" like MTA or "metro transit authority" but to the exent that they cross state lines and transport people/cargo that could implicate national security, the feds theoretically could choose to exercise jurisdiction if they wanted to.

A small amount of pot, if deemed a violation, would most likely be turned over to the local authority within whose jurisdiction it was discovered. Feds typically not interested in minor possession unless it's on a fed military base or where arms/copters/war goodies are made.

With state's sovereignty and individual rights eroding every day, we are always "within" federal jurisdiction.

I have ridden Amtrak all over the country. I enjoy the scenery. That being said I don't know how you would get caught with a nuclear weapon much less a bit of herb.

my understanding has been that the railroad tracks cross state as well as international boundaries and are governed by federal law whereas amtrak is a privately held company governed by the laws of the state where its articles of corporation were filed. as a practical matter, the feds could probably investigate any crime committed on a train if they choose to do so. peace-biteme
