Is 800watts sufficient for 30 clones in 3x6 closet??

I have had my grow closet running about 4 years now, and about 12 harvests. I have a 400wt MH and a 400 HPS both under 1 reflector i made myself. ive always had half my closet used for the grow, and the other half was taken up by my 2 ballasts and a stand up fan. Ive always grown from seed and usually just start around 8-10 seeds hoping for 4-5 females. Ive been blessed with 3 rooted clones of sum unknown DANK from a friends dad, which ive grown out and turned into 30 clones currently waiting to grow roots. Ive pretty much made up my mind to build a shelf above the grow area to store my ballasts, so i can now use the full length of the closet. i wanna reposition my lights so they hang in the center of my whole area. Do u guys think if i flower all 30 clones after only say 7-10 days veg in 3-liter bottles, will the 2 400's be sufficient lighting to have good results, or would i be better off to cut back to say 15 clones and keep using only half the closet like i always have....any input or opinions is appreciated.

ya ventilation isnt an issue i have a 737 cfm inline fan with an 8" duct from the clost to the attic where th fan is located. Its actually overkill but my first fan, a 465cfm squirrel cage, was not enuff and i still had heat issues. I plan to flower the clons @ 10 days or 8 inches, whichever comes first. Im 99% sure im gonna try this, so once i get it going and all clones have rooted and are in the closet ill start a grow diary in a new thread.

I'd run em all.. 15 per light and use one light per 3x3 area. since they are mixed hps, mh, just rotate the plants every once in a while.

ya im prolly gonna just expand my area and cram em all in there. my light r both on 1 reflector but i held it in the middle of the closet and it covers the whole thing quite nicely. i figure if i flower @ 8 inches in 3 litre bottles, even if i get 7 grams/plant, which i think is kinda low guess, thatll still be 210 g.s which id be happy with esp. of this weed its for sure A1

I think you'd do better if you moved the bulbs apart for that many clones.. If you have to use a single reflector for both lamps your light intensity won't carry off to the sides much at all.

ya that makes sense....wat do u think about hanging the bulbs vertical w/no reflector??? its be much easier for me to do that then make a whole new reflector or 2 reflectors.

well i know of a grower who uses 1000w for 36 plants so im more than sure it would work if you can keep them all in check.

Make another reflector cause you'll be soggin em.. vert lighting is only an advantege with bigger plants pretty sure and it may be that you'd need a vert specific bulb.. but double check on that one. :joint:

for sure the light is sufficient for the space 3 x 6 .. with great ventilation .

an easy formula to use in the situation of determining how many watts is best for your grow space,with the optimum 50watts per sq.ft:

formula> grow "bed" length x grow "bed" width x 50

ie;3 x 6 x 50 = 900watts

"bed" -exact growing area to be illuminated

I also have an 800 watt combo fixture in my closet for veg,its a sun sysytems and its a bit larger than the average 1000W hydrofarm fixture,is your fixture pretty large?30 plants is a bit for that space,I'm leaning more towards what JJ said I'd cut that number in half and veg for 2 weeks flowering in 1 gal pots

Hang the light with one chain in the middle and move the light back and forth half way thought your 12 hour cycle. move it about 6 in from side to side and keep all the plants as close to the middle as possable. Trim all the lower branches so that you only have 4 colas on each plant.

That is what i would do.

Use the one reflector with the two bulbs. Add a cheap light mover that has a small chain and motor. This should cover the entire area well. Remember you can get the lamp closer to the plants than normal.

Light Movers

Light Movers are specifically designed to utilize higher intensities by making light available to a greater area. The result? Cost-effective, uniform and high performance plant growth. An HID lamp emits a "fixed" number of lumens. How those lumens are utilized in terms of plant growth is crucial. Plants too close to the lights will burn; plants 5 feet away will starve. There is shading, competition and pyramidal plant growth toward the light. You need to move plants around to compensate for an immovable light source. Light movers will allow all plants to receive the same amount of light.

Light Rail 3.5

The Light Rail 3.5 has the ability to move 1 light 6 feet, or up to 12' with the optional extension rail. An adjustable delay (1-60 seconds) at each end evens out the light coverage. Two models are available, 6 RPM and 10 RPM. The 6 RPM takes about 4 minutes to travel across the rail and the 10 RPM takes about 2 minutes. All Light Rails include a single point mounting hook for your light, a 6 foot rail, and adjustable end stops. 3 and 6 foot extension rails are available for larger coverage. The Add-a-Lamp kit is available which allows you to move 2 lights with one motor along one long rail (up to 12 feet). The Add-a-Lamp kit Includes a 6' rail, trolly, and attachment bar. The "Robo-Stik" reflector mount allows for 2 point mounting for your reflector. Highly recommended.

$ 199.95 - Light Rail 3.5 6 RPM
$ 199.95 - Light Rail 3.5 10 RPM

I took my light 2day and grabbed the chains and held it in the middle of the closet like im talkin about....it seemed to cover the area pretty well i bent the sides of the reflector a bit too so the light went sideways a lil more. Im gonna redo my closet with the ballasts above on a shelf and rehang the lights in the middle 4 sure. It will double my grow space i dont know y i didnt do this from the beginning. Once i get it all set up and all of my clones are rooted ill start a grow thread with pics n wat not. Im pretty sure its gonna be a nice turnout I am hoping for at least 6-7 oz from the 30 clones with 800 watts mixed HPS/MH. Thanks for all the input i appreciate it 4 real.

I'm running 12 under 400hps and I think I am short about 200W. I have quite a bit of stretch happening and am now dropping in an extra 100W CFL during flower. Would like 100 more but this will have to do fo now.

I think unless you are seriously scrogging you might find its is not enough....I think the trick is to pull anything resembling a sun leaf and allowing the bud leaves to take all that light goodness....

look forward to seeing your grow dan k when you get it happening

cheers

im not gonna scrog i was planning on more of a SOG with the clones in 2 or probly 3 liter bottles and flowering @ like 8 inches or so maybe even a lil shorter.
The original clones i got from a buddy's friend i flowered out-1 just let it go and the other i trained...the 1 i just let grow str8 up showed nice potential for a sog it didnt stretch much and developed a CHUNKER on top and real nice side buds that were close to the plant not long and outward. Im gonna try it regardless and hopfully in 2 months we can get the results of wheter its enuff light or not lol.
