Ive been using everclear for 30 years... I think the taste of the oil is much better ... but of course thats just my opinion :) Have a quart on the shelf right now:grin:

everclear has sugars in it that don't evaporate away and will make your oil harsher on the throat and taste somewhat different(not bad, just different). It's just as potent as ISO oil. Other than that, there are no differences between them. I use ISo now because of the cost benefits. By volume, $2 of ISO is about the same amount as a $12 1/5th of everclear

quote from D.Gold the author of cannabis alchemy

"because 70% isopropyl contians water, many of the water-soulule, non-psychoative substances are also extracted....the oil yeild using rubbing alcohol is 2 x that of methonal, and proportionally less potent.......Water soluble tars may also give the oil undesirabletaste and burn quailties"

That applies only if you leave all the black shit in the oil. Properly done ISO and everclear extraction should leave a translucent, red residue behind that is as potent as any other extraction method.

This oil was made with everclear a couple years ago. I can link you to the thread on OG if you like. This is the final stages of drying after the black stuff was removed

===================================

And these pics are from a thread I did here on IC recently using 71% ISO

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=8349

Al the level goes down, the black shit congeals along the bottom, leaving a delicious red oil floating on the surface. It's not perfectly pur, but I aint a perfectly pure kinda guy

Pour it into a second glass pan and then back in the hot water for final evap. I'm not happy until it powders off the bottom. You'll see.

Ugh, black stuff

Mmmmmmm.....yummy cherry oil

Cap...nice demonstration of the water-soulule, non-psychoative substances...... th0s are really good pics you got there...... boil off can be used as you clean it up as you demonstrated to achive translucant (honey) oil which is amber in color........ Nice pics for sure........ your pics explain alot out the water impurites left behind by the 70% iso......right on man...nice contribution to this thread.......

thanks Cap, how do u get the black layer off the cherry oil ? do u just pour it off? thanks for the info...wot sort of yiled of oil wud u expect from 1/2 oz of bud?

DrD, that's from low heat separation. Floating the tray in hot tap water will raise the temp of the mixture to 150-160f depending on your hot water heater. This floats the good stuff to the surface and allows you to just pour it off once enough of the black stuff has stuck to the bottom from evap. It also keeps the potency intact by not raising the temps to boiling or more.

It wont be perfect at this point, but as the cherry oil evaps down even further, you can manually remove the black stuff to your desired purity by panning it out, slowly sliding the mixture from corner edge to corner edge like your panning for gold. Do it slow enough and the remaining black stuff will accumulate at the edges, like you see in the first two pics above. The ISO mix has a few drops of black still in it, I guess I was being lazy with that batch. Just a few minutes work wil remove that as well.

Hehe, if you thought that was excellent stuff, just wait till you pack a bowl with a pinprick of cherry oil in it. That's how I smoke it raw, a sandwich with pot on the bottom of the bowl, oil in the middle and pot on top. Lately, I've been make a solidified version that is my favorite so far. Take a small amount, like a 1/2 gram, and roll it in shake made by a grinder. Once covered, work the shake in until it needs more. Use two knives to scrape from one to the other and just mix and mix until you can hold it in your hand and roll it between your fingers with no mess. You can then smoke this by itself f pack in a sandwich. I've been really successful rolling out a long strip, no thicker than a pin, and laying it carefully in a joint. This combination will knock your dick in the dirt if your not careful.

I think I made pics of a joint like that once, let me look.....

Yes, here they are. A decent pic of the hashball at the end.

I use ground weed only for joints now, it's just too perfect a smoke. First, Fill half a joint with shake. Second, roll out your piece of solidified hash oil.

Third, lay the hash oil on the pot so it doesnt touch the paper. Fourth, fill in the joint with shake, again making as sure as possible that when you roll, the oil stays away from the sides

I like to pack the ends tight, using the back of my PDA stylus here. Tap it to pack it tight, the better it burns, the better you'll like the experience. Joints with ground weed tend to leak, so I twist the ends. Makes it like a fine cuban when it's time to smoke.

BTW, the black residue will probably be some of the best hash normal dealer smokers have ever had. Give it away to them for free. You have the gold in your hand.

Thanksvery much for the info Cap..i have quite a low tolerance so however i smoke it, its gonna fuck me up specially from this Dankouver bud cuz that alone is enough to blaze me lmao

Dr. D, if you are worried about getting the 91% ISO from your local chemist, just tell them that you are an artist. You use an airbrush and find that 91% ISO helps to thin your paints down to a better vicosity and therefore is better for you work. Whenever i've tried it it works everytime, and is in fact a perfectly true legit reason to purchase ISO, apart from Boots, they wouldnt sell it because its coimpany policy not to stock or order it anymore. Plus I think she thought I was gonna drink it or something lol

Spectacular contribution. Ever consider that in those pages you didn't read, someone may have done it successfully? No, didn't think so.
