Is 1000w too much for a 3x3 tent?

Ok, just checked the temp of the Rez. It is 71.6 degrees F. And the lights have been on now for about 7 hours, so I doubt it will get any warmer than that. The thermometer on top of the rez read the same. So air under the canopy is 72 degrees and the temp about 6" below the hood is 87 degrees. The girls atm are about 12" below the hood.

Well damn it Brotherindica! Why couldn't you make this work for me? I was counting on you. (I hope you can tell I'm just joking around!!!). Guess I will have to just use the600 in here for now. No $$ for a chiller right now, and I don't want the tops basking in 100+ temps. Guess I will sell my 1k ballast and maybe get another 600 for my 2x4 tent and use the 400 for mothers. Was hoping to avoid buying/selling a ballast, but I dont want to use the amps that the 1k ballast pulls vs a 600, and just turn the 1k down. Oh well.

On a more serious note, thanks to everyone, especially Brotherindica, because of your trials...I finally get to avoid the trial and error approach instead of being the guini pig.

Well if you don't mind flying me out, put me up, supply me with loads of ganja.......I'll gladly come out.....


No problem at all! Just glad I could save you the headache before it started. Going from a failed DWC to ebb & flow table trying to cure root rot and salvage a necessary grow isn't fun at all..............not like I'd know about that.........


If you can afford it, maybe just buy a 600W ballast and keep the 1K ballast for later use? I just hate selling good equipment after paying "full" price.......but if ya need a buck, I know how that goes.


Rock the 600W hard this run, then think of upgrading next time or down the line.

I hate having to unload good equipment too. Especially since I haven't ever used the 1k ballast. Got a little quick on the draw on that one. Was originally gonna get a 4x4 or 5x5 tent, but the new place didnt have that space, thats why my big tent is the 3x3. Now I have a 1k, 600, and a 400 watter. I was just hoping to get rid of the cfls and veg with the 400 and just have more powerful lights with my 2 flowering tents. I should probably just use one for veg and one for bloom, but I am wanting one tent for Indicas and one for sativas...I want it all I guess.

I know you have been in suspense for me about the lighting issue. I think I have it resolved. Just got my response from lumatek about the amps drawn from a dimmable ballast. I figured this, but wasn't sure since it was electronic. Figured ther might be a transformer in there or something that did something funny with the amps/watts. But lumatek confirmed that the amps drawn are dependent on the setting the dial is at. So I think I will put my 1k in my 2x4 tent and dial it down to 500 watts and use my 400 as a veg ballast while keeping my 600 in the 3x3. All I need now is to get the new hood and a 1k bulb!

Thanx brother. Just ordered the blockbuster hood and the 1k hps. Yippie!!! Now the only thing left will be 1 more tent so I can have a bigger veg area.

Valueline 6' fan pulling thru a Can 66 and a Yieldmaster hood.

Canopy level would be within 5 degrees of the outside ambient air temp.......
