I am pretty bummed. I was doing a preservation seed run on the skunk#1 line that I received decades ago from Gypsy Nirvana and DW.
I choose 3 gallon pots starting with 16 plants. The best 12 were selected. The seedlings had been grown under 11/13 from point of germination under an HLG 600. There were 4 males and 8 females.
Then I noticed 3 of the males were producing pistils. I culled the 3 males and I think light stress did it. As these seedlings grew they grew up towards the light and we

re still stretching and I think increased light intensity maybe was a culprit.
I am a seriously poor broke ass dude so this definitely hurts. My resources are thin and now I have to start over. I have clones of 9 females spread out to friends and the male which I stupidly chopped in half. I was culling it but it smelled so skunky I stopped.
There's only 15,16 seeds left of the original preservation done in 2003 outdoors. These seeds are endangered because I am endangered.
I had come here to hopefully send a sample, show my photos and get a blessing from DW. But now the seed run has fallen through and I feel like I'm being flayed on the rack.

All is not lost yet. I have one male that smells good and 9 cuts. That is enough to save the line if that male proves to be acceptable. Plus I will have all of the seed from the aborted run which while not marketable is good to have as backup and a good majority of it is not affected by the hermy males. When I chopped the top off the good male I shook it over the plants.
As you can see from the photo we have an IBL with good stability. But enough variation still is there to make pheno hunting the Skunk#1 a worthwhile task. I am excited to see the new female phenos looking for the cherry terps that I love. My favorite plants are the most compact that lean towards the Afghani in structure. This run will settle in my mind whether or not this is pure uncrossed Skunk#1 from DW. I grew enough of it way back when to know.
These seeds were thought lost in the first raid in 2016. After the second raid in 2021, I cut down some wild grown dry farmed pot I put as a backup, and I didn't realize it until I was trimming...the terps hit me and I shit in my pants! And the 2 lemon cookies skunk seeds were discovered one of which was a great buzz.
It took years to get back to the skunk. And even then it was a fluke. I grabbed a film can from my vault and got a seed out, I still had not changed the wrong label and didn't even realize what I was digging into.
A mouse attracted to fish scratched that seedling out of the solo cup and all roots except for the tap root. I put back and it lived tough as nails. There is something spiritual here maybe...that thing wanted daylight. Later when I realized it was skunk#1 I thought- no accidents - this was meant to happen.

This has always been the most important genetic in my collection. A personal favorite and Breeder Gold. When it was thought lost I felt incredibly robbed.

I have read the Skunkman DW is a Mod here. I only have one question for him if he's around...It's about the Skunk#1 freebies given out by Gypsy in the early 2000's. My question is: I recall one or two kilos of freebies Skunk#1 that were donated by Dave Watson. What is the backstory on those seeds? Are they from the Sativex work or earlier?
