Insects outdoors but what kind?

Ulysses - Thanks again for the help and advise, ALONG with EVERYONE ELSE WHO STOPPED BY!! Do you think that the damage to the leaves will stunt or stress the plant any? I'd think so.....less photosynthesis I'd think. I sprayed em with a multi insect spray so we'll see if that works.

Thanks for the kind comments on the plants but I can't really take too much credit, it's mother natures doing I just prepped the soil and planted em. I'm hoping for a plentiful harvest to offset GAS PRICES for the 2 hour drive, 4 hours round trip.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUTDOORS THIS YEAR!! SO FAR SO GOOD!! GREAT WEATHER AND PLENTY OF RAIN!!! STAY SAFE!!

Hi Smokey, glad to hear you are winning the battle.

I imagine that yes those holes will affect growth somewhat, compared to a plant with no damage, but I doubt you will notice any big difference.

Too bad about the stem chew. Lotsa little critters will do that right down to mice and other rodents. If you ever find one half chewed, splint it up with tape and popsicle sticks or paint stir sticks and if it isn't right through, the stem should heal.

One trick that may help in the future is to cut the bottom out of 5 gal buckets, bury them halfway in the ground at your planting location, fill em the rest with your soil/compost/nutes to about 12" from the top, and plant your young plants in there. That will protect them from a lot of pests until they grow out of the bucket and are large enough to handle some pests. The bucket also helps direct and hold moisture in the root zone. Use black or dark green buckets if stealth is necessary and hide the buckets with sticks, leaves and other natural materials from your site.
