The IRS Placed Lien On Hunter Biden For About $113,000 In Unpaid Taxes From Year He Served On Burisma Board

It does not appear that Hunter Biden has resolved his tax debt to the IRS

The IRS placed a tax lien on Hunter Biden seeking $112,805 in unpaid taxes from 2015, according to records the Daily Caller News Foundation obtained.
The federal agency issued the previously unreported lien in November 2018 and it seeks unpaid taxes for a year in which Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, served on the boards of the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings and the Chinese private equity firm BHR Partners.
“We have made a demand for payment of this liability, but it remains unpaid,” the IRS stated in the lien notice, which it filed with the Washington, D.C., Recorder of Deeds. “Therefore, there is a lien in favor of the United States on all property and rights to property belonging to this taxpayer for the amount of these taxes.”
The tax lien was issued against Hunter Biden and his ex-wife, Kathleen Biden, but was delivered to the same address Hunter Biden has on file with Connecticut’s Judicial Branch, an address that is also linked to his law firm, Owasco PC.
It does not appear that Hunter Biden has resolved his tax debt to the IRS. No corresponding lien release form has been filed with the Washington, D.C., Recorder of Deeds.
Hunter Biden’s lawyer, George Mesires, did not return multiple requests for comment asking whether Hunter Biden’s unpaid taxes from 2015 were related to his work with Burisma or BHR Partners and whether the lien has been released.
Washington, D.C., also placed a tax lien against Hunter and Kathleen Biden for $48,929 in unpaid income taxes for 2015. Records show the city released the lien in August 2017.
Hunter Biden was appointed to the board of Burisma in 2014, a post he held until 2019. Hunter Biden did not receive any direct compensation from Burisma — rather, the Ukrainian company wired funds to Rosemont Seneca Bohai (RSB), an American firm controlled by Hunter Biden’s longtime business partner Devon Archer. Between June 2014 and October 2015, RSB wired a total of $708,302 to Hunter Biden each month for undisclosed purposes while RSB was receiving funds from Burisma.
During that 17-month time frame, in June 2015, Rosemont Seneca Bohai obtained a 20% equity stake in BHR Partners, the Chinese private equity firm that Hunter Biden served on the board of starting in 2013.
Hunter Biden announced in October that he would resign from BHR’s board by the end of that month, but Chinese business records the DCNF accessed on Dec. 29 still list him as a member of the firm’s board.
Kathleen Biden filed for divorce from Hunter Biden in 2016. She said in court documents that they faced a “shocking and overwhelming” amount of debts, including “maxed-out credit card debt, double mortgages on both real properties they own, and tax debt of at least $313,970.”
Kathleen Biden accused Hunter Biden of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on “his own interests (including drugs, alcohol, prostitutes, strip clubs and gifts for women with whom he had sexual relations) while leaving the family with no funds to pay legitimate bills.”
They finalized their divorce in 2017.
The revelation that the IRS is seeking $112,805 in unpaid taxes from Hunter Biden comes as he’s the subject of an ongoing paternity case in Arkansas from former stripper Lunden Roberts, who’s seeking child support for their 16-month-old child.
Hunter Biden stated under oath in a Nov. 27 court document that he has been unemployed and has had no monthly income since May.
In a motion to compel discovery filed in December, Roberts said Hunter Biden has avoided his “natural and legal duty to support his child by failing to provide basic information about his income, finances, and lifestyle.”
“t should, by now, be abundantly clear to the Court that the defendant is not going to provide any of his discoverable financial information unless the court forces him to do so,” the filing read.

This seems self-evident, but as Jim Rickards noted in a recent article about the ever-growing levels of debt, people tend to ignore this indisputable truth.
Total global debt reached a record of over $250 trillion in the first half of 2019, according to an Institute of International Finance report published in November. Global debt surged by $7.5 trillion through the first half of the year. “With no sign of a slowdown, we expect the global debt load to exceed $255 trillion in 2019, largely driven by the US and China.”

“Now, the majority of that debt went into the Stock, Bond, and Real Estate Markets. This is precisely why the US stock market has reached an all-time new high. Unfortunately, when the US and the global economy finally enters into a recession-depression, the asset values will crash while the debts remain.”
In last week’s Friday Gold Wrap, Mike Maharrey included debt as one of the five big news stories that drove the gold market in 2019. Corporate, government and consumer debt have all pushed to record levels, enabled by loose central bank policy.
Rickard focused on government debt, saying we’re on “the knife-edge of a debt crisis.”

Just consider the US. The 2019 budget deficit came in at just a hair under $1 trillion. That’s the kind of deficit spending you would expect to see in the midst of a major recession. The national debt surged past $23 trillion this year and that doesn’t factor in unfunded liabilities. And the spending shows no signs of slowing down. The deficit through the first two months of fiscal 2020 was 12% bigger than the same period in FY2019.
Other countries are in the same boat. Rickards said, “Current global debt levels are simply not sustainable.”
“Debt actually is sustainable if the debt is used for projects with positive returns and if the economy supporting the debt is growing faster than the debt itself. But neither of those conditions applies today. Debt is being incurred just to keep pace with existing requirements in the form of benefits, interest and discretionary spending.”
It’s not just the amount of debt in absolute terms that is cause for concern. Debt is growing faster than GDP in most developed economies. As Rickards points out, debt to GDP ratios are hitting levels where additional debt actually stunts economic growth. He calls it “a catastrophic global debt crisis (worse than 2008) waiting to happen.”
The question is what will trigger the crisis?
Rickards thinks it will be a rise in interest rates. He points out that real rates can rise even as central banks try to push down nominal rates. We saw this happen in the repo markets earlier this year when rates skyrocketed to over 10%, pushing the Fed to inject liquidity into the markets to push rates down.
“Low-interest rates facilitate unsustainable debt levels, at least in the short run. But with so much debt on the books, even modest rate increases will cause debt levels and deficits to explode as new borrowing is sought just to cover interest payments.”
The Federal Reserve has even expressed worry about debt – especially corporate debt levels. In its most recent Financial Stability Report, the central bank lamented the pileup of business debt.
“Borrowing by businesses is historically high relative to gross domestic product (GDP), with the most rapid increases in debt concentrated among the riskiest firms amid weak credit standards.”
If something can’t go on forever, it will stop. Debt can’t go on forever. At some point, you have to pay the bill. It’s not a matter of if the debt bubble will pop – it’s a matter of when.

A New UN Treaty On “Cybercrime” – aka Free Speech

The United Nations on Friday approved a Russian-led bid that aims to create a new convention on cybercrime, alarming rights groups and Western powers that fear a bid to restrict online freedom.
The General Assembly approved the resolution sponsored by Russia and backed by China, which would set up a committee of international experts in 2020.
The panel will work to set up “a comprehensive international convention on countering the use of information and communications technologies for criminal purposes,” the resolution said.
The United States, European powers and rights groups fear that the language is code for legitimizing crackdowns on expression, with numerous countries defining criticism of the government as “criminal.”
China heavily restricts internet searches to avoid topics sensitive to its communist leadership, as well as news sites with critical coverage.
A number of countries have increasingly tried to turn off the internet, with India cutting off access in Kashmir in August after it stripped autonomy to the Muslim-majority region and Iran taking much of the country offline as it cracked down on protests in November.
“It is precisely our fear that (a new convention) would allow the codification at an international and global level of these types of controls that’s driving our opposition and our concerns about this resolution,” a US official said.
Any new UN treaty that spells out internet controls would be “inimical to the United States’ interests because that doesn’t tally with the fundamental freedoms we see as necessary across the globe,” he said.
Human Rights Watch called the UN resolution’s list of sponsors “a rogue’s gallery of some of the earth’s most repressive governments.”
“If the plan is to develop a convention that gives countries legal cover for internet blackouts and censorship, while creating the potential for criminalizing free speech, then it’s a bad idea,” said Human Rights Watch’s Louis Charbonneau.
The United States argues that the world should instead expand its sole existing accord on cybercrime, the 2001 Budapest Convention, which spells out international cooperation to curb copyright violations, fraud and child pornography.
Russia has opposed the Budapest Convention, arguing that giving investigators access to computer data across borders violates national sovereignty.
The Budapest Convention was drafted by the Council of Europe, but other countries have joined, including the United States and Japan.
A new UN treaty on cybercrime could render the Budapest Convention obsolete, further alarming rights groups.

The Freeway Church shooter Keith Kinnunen was gunned down on Sunday after he shot two people during the church service in Texas.

Kinnunen was arrested in 2016 after police found him in possession of a .12 gauge shotgun and rounds while in the area of the Phillips 66 refinery in Linden, New Jersey. He was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.
Convicted felons cannot own guns in Texas. A felon in Texas can own a gun but only on his premises and five years after the conviction.

Keith Kinnunen was a felon with a long police record.
By Texas law he was not allowed to own a gun.

Yet, he went into a church on Sunday and shot two people before being shot dead.
Thank God for the good guys with their guns.
No gun control laws will prevent convicted felons like Kinnunen from acquiring a firearm

Some members of New York’s Orthodox Jewish community were seen open carrying AR rifles at a community event on Sunday, a day after a man attacked a rabbi’s home with a machete, sending five people to the hospital with injuries.
Another attack occurred in Jersey City earlier this month at a Jewish grocery where where four people were killed.
The two attacks specifically targeting New York City’s Jewish community appear to have motivated some members of the community to arm themselves in self-defense.

The armed men were attending a community event intended to strengthen spirits in light of the traumatic events.
New York is a state that enacts some of the most Orwellian gun control policies in the country, and some questioned if the men’s rifles were legal under the state’s laws. Open carry is heavily restricted in New York, and only “featureless” AR rifles that contain cosmetic modifications can be legally bought and sold in the state.

In any case, it’s a shame the men may be afoul of the state’s gun laws in an environment where it appears some members of the general public are inclined to target Jews. It’s hard to imagine that New York prosecutors would go after the men after the two attacks on the Jewish community, but if they did, some Jews who wish to arm themselves in self-defense might feel left with no choice other than to move to a state where peaceful gun ownership is legal.
The men may feel a prescient need for armed self-defense after an attack on a Texas church Sunday was thwarted by an armed congregation member. The retired police officer neutralized a shotgun-wielding gunman who opened fire on churchgoers.

I would be curious how that guy obtained a gun. Did he steal it or buy it stolen, or buy legitimately at a gun show? If he went through the private sale route then that sorta looks bad for the thrust of the article that gun laws are useless.
