I want me some Sour Bubble, or any of BOG's gear would do. Can't wait to see what those babies turn out to be. I have a question, what is the advantages of hanging the bulb in the middle vertically rather than horizontally like in a reflector? Happy toKin!
And what to do while the SB veges, light another one-or two or tree :peacock:

Hiya Bobbo! Thanks for dropping by. My bulb is horizontal now. Initially it was vertical because I didn't own a hood yet and hanging it that way was my only option. That being said, a lot o folks do their while grows with a vertical bulb and simply circle the plants around it. It's a way to maximize the surface area that the light is shining on. There's a sub forum on it here- Vertical and Coliseum Growing. I decided that style of growing was not optimal for the strains I have.

Chunky- I am determined to find a wicked female SB plant and am going to save you some special beans when I do!

I am so excited to see some frosty flowers. I have been ogling photos of Sour Bubble flowers for 6 months now. Soon!

Hello El Bandito, first off the best luck with your grow, it looks great. I have 2 plants that i flipped the 5th, so just a little younger than yours. The temperature conditions are very similar and because i have them in a closet in my bedroom and the schedule is now the lights off from 7:30 in the morning till half past 7 in the evening the temptation and waiting is even stronger, especially after the long veg days when i could look inside and check up on them almost every time... Anyways enjoy your growing, hope you get abundant fruit from them!

Kinda getting nervous about these two males in the tent. One of them is SB and the other is Sam the Skunkman's Original Haze x Skunk. The plan is to yank them out at 21 days into flower and finish off some flowers in a closet to collect the pollen.

Question is- these plants veg'd a long time - 12 weeks plus - and they are on day 16 of flower. Can I wait another five days to pull them without pollination the females in the tent? Here are the male flowers ATM:

Looking good brother. I like the the look of your haze skunk especially. You'll have some mucho special pollen there between those fine strains. Love the extreme indica sativa hybrids.
Great work

Already put them both in the closet, where they will spend the rest of their lives. I named them Travolta and Cruise.

if your outside weather is warm enough and have a nice spot where they can't be spotted i would put the males out there, only keeping them for pollen don't need to look after them aswell as the girls plus a rapid change of climate should make them spit out pollen earlier ... but the spot would be best less windy or with the wind not blowing towards yourself so you don't track the pollen inside :)

Thanks for the suggestion ChroniCon. I might just move them outside this weekend. For now they are ok in the closet. I have been careful but I have mentally prepared myself for the possibility of having my whole crop seeded. Just growing my own head stash anyway and the temptation to collect some pollen and see how males develop was too great to resist.

I have Sour Bubble as well as Skunk x Original Haze pollen now!!

In other news- my females are ridiculously healthy and vigorous here at the end of week 3 in flower:

In other other news- I have six more week old Sour Bubble plants from seed that are coming along nicely for the most part. One of them is jumbo compared to the mean:

Two are a bit behind due to tough shells, and my clones from the current run are happy:

looks good! thought that i might spot a little pm in the flower tent, the pics fuzzy.
it starts as circular pale spots on the fans if you have not had the pleasure.
I've been fighting it all year. do you have any fans in there moving the air?

Better safe than sorry, Chunky. looks like some nice buds in your space! I couldn't see the PM in your pic but I am old and half blind. i have been examining my plants closely for pests and fungus and so far so good. I also have a whole lot more empty space in mine than you do. :( I have two Honeywell fans circulating air in there and RH is under 50, but I did notice that some runoff moisture has trickled down around the edges of the insulation panel on the floor and is trapped between the panel and the plastic sheeting underneath it. I'm going to have to pull it apart and clean everything up this weekend so I am not breeding any nasties under there.

I know cleanliness is next to godliness but my garden runs wet and dirty...

FWIW to ya, I used to put plastic plant saucers under my pots to catch the runoff, but the plants would
end up drinking it before the next watering. I now improvise a double layer of 6 mil vapor barrier to catch
all the runoff and turn the saucers upside down to elevate the pots out of the pool of runoff.

this can create a real mess in the bottom of the tent over the 12 weeks or so until it
gets emptied. while it looks bad, nothing "evil" has turned up yet. having a little pool down there
doesn't even seem to raise the RH because of all the airflow. occasionally I'll shop vac out the excess.
I would like to have a nice fiberglass flood drain type pan under them with a drain someday.

I guess what I'm trying to say is a little excess moisture on the floor
can't be helped sometimes but does not cause big trouble for me.

it can be hard to keep a workable spacing around the plants and
that's why I prefer not to use screens. my grows are always multi
strain affairs and I like to remove the plants for upkeep when needed.
I find it easiest to stake each pot and move or prop them as needed
though the flowering period.

this was what the bottom of the tent looked like at the end of flowering.

this is how I deal with many strains and different sized plants in the
same tent. my reflector is fixed at the top and shawties get propped.
I pull the top colas when early ripe and raise them again till lower
buds get dense. since I'm growing for my own medicine the extra
weeks don't bother me, I just want it ripe. the last few weeks the
cold garage temps have stalled growth and finish times.

I hit the sweet spot in late fall / early winter and pulled some nice colas.

I'm loving my Sour Diesel clone. took me 3 crops to get it nice.
I'm high as a kite from a half joint but not couchlocked. smell and
flavor and buzz same as the first I smoked it. :woohoo:

Gardening is nice when it's working and your head is right.:)

Thanks Chunkypigs- your insight is so valuable to me because we have such similar grow environments and goals. Seeing that picture from below, there is more room around those pots than I had thought. I like your approach with elevating plants individually and actually did end up propping up my shawty last week based in your advice.

Good to know that a little wet and dirty here and there won't be a catastrophe. I've been an obsessive novice grower for the past year, but as time goes by, I am becoming more patient and mellow. I don't want to be pulling everything out of the tent every day and working on stuff :)

That Sour Diesel sounds nice- I am hoarding the last half ounce of SD from last summer. The smell is amazing, but I cured it a bit too slowly and it's a tad harsh :(

I'll have to shut down in May because of temps but I will need to have some pre-veged plants to throw outdoors over the summer just like last year. I have been leaning toward the Super Silver Sour Diesel Haze. Wish I knew local growers in the sac area that I could talk shop with and swap genetics.

My ultimate goal would be to chuck some of that Sour Bubble pollen on a big beautiful sativa and make some interesting beans. I want that server fund donor status and I think people would go for a weird cross like that. This site has been so incredibly valuable to me and it would be satisfying to make a contribution.

Anyhow enough rambling. I tossed out the males today after collecting and storing sufficient pollen. The buds on the ladies are starting to get a little frosty- it's day 25.

The haze x skunk plant's structure is very similar to the Sour Bubble- super thick stems and all, and the buds are swelling up a bit faster:
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1359246352.567049.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1359246384.572084.jpg

Had a minor incident in the seedling/clone cabinet with a cooling thermostat that stopped working. It turns on a small exhaust fan when it gets over 75. Anyway I was too high apparently to notice that it was super hot in there for the past couple of days. I had removed the thermometer in there to put in the closet with the males. I unplugged the controller to reset it and now it works again. Had some wilted plants but things are bouncing back. Pisses me off because it's a super expensive CAP controller.

Thanks again Chunky and everyone else for your input and company!

maybe start a clones in sacto area thread and meet sum peeps?
If I was you I'd take a road trip up to arcata and grab genetics from HPRC.
you can call them and request them to clone specific strains. they have all the classics up
there and seeing their grow is really cool. don't wait till the spring.

buds looking good!

Sup y'all! I have tried to cut down on the posts because the first half of flowering isn't so exciting :)

But for a novice grower, there are so many exciting moments! I haven't touched the plants at all for a couple of days- just checked in here and there. I was going to do a stem rub on one of the SB plants and couldn't really find an open spot because there are so many buds! This particular plant really stands out from the others because the buds are larger and more densely populated. For the first time this run, my fingers got sticky while examine the plants. I remembered the rush I felt last summer when I experienced that for the first time ever. Anyway, it made my day!

As predicted by you awesome and expert growers, this early standout pheno with the big bigger buds is actually the little runt of the group. She even lost a big limb in a portable heater malfunction episode a couple of weeks before she went into flower. Part of me wonders if maybe all the stress has simply accelerated her life cycle or something. It 's probably more likely that she's gonna be my favorite, especially since it's the only plant I couldn't successfully clone. :(

Anywho pics aren't exciting yet but here are a couple:

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1359506827.083048.jpg

Oh yeah one more thing- I think maybe I am over feeding the HxS plant. Got some clawing but only in the top fans near the flowers. This entire plant is super... well... erect is I guess the best word. It feels like you could use the leaves as serrated knives. The stem is thick and might be able to pierce a man's sternum. So- here's a couple pics:

Any thoughts?
