I know this goes contrary to what everyone else seems to do in terms of maintaining their genetics, but I don't really keep moms, I just smack everything with males.

I sometimes will keep a clone of a female plant, but most times, I run em to kill em. Clones tend to harbor pests, diseases, and even if perfectly maintained - don't grow as vigorously as seeds do. If I find plants I like, I dust them with one of the males I'm running at the time to create crosses or f2s. (The purplest flos will produce F2s and probably a few other variants, like Flo x {Tom Hill Haze x Purple White Widow Thai Pheno} - the ultimate purple haze project lol)

Beans are easy to keep for 10+ years, clones are a pain in the ass to keep alive for 1 year.

Don't you mean Moms ?? I dont keep moms either. I do take cuttings of plants I think are special from my own garden....

I sometimes will keep a cut, or give one to a friend for safekeeping - but like I said, for the most part I just smack em with males.

Hey all,

Today is 8 weeks for Holy Grail and about 10.5 for Hawaiian Snow. Looking like at least 2-3 more for each, probably about 4-5 for Hawaiian Snow. Holy grail is more frosty than Harlequin, and seems to have the semi-outdoor appearance of Destroyer.

Hawaiian Snow is UGLY. However, Hawaiian Snow has serious potential, which is why a friend is running her and has dusted her with a HUGE Napalm male.

Side note - if you haven't started vegging in Smart Pots, you need to. Since I have started vegging in 3 gal smart pots before transferring to 10 gallon pots, the difference has been truly insane. Napalm / Holy Grail were the first plants to see them, and since it's been a totally different ball game.

Hey all,

a friend of mine hasn't ever pollinated, so I decided his setup would make for a perfect place to dust a Napalm for f2s. Mom has very destroyer looking leaves and bud structure, but has heavy fire og leaf serrations. The male napalm is slightly more 60/40 og leaning.
picture.php

In addition to the Napalm f2s, a cut of the Hawaiian snow was partially beaned up as well. As you can see, it looks WAY better under the LEDs.

Napalm smells a bit more like mom (rascal fire og) with slight influences of dad (cannabiogen destroyer) as compared to the previous one which was mom looking but REEKED of lemon pepper.

Hawaiian Snow is doing a few interesting things. First off, the Napalm (fire og x destroyer) pollen took quite well.:) Secondly, the plant has been responding to the LED light in a way I've only seen in pics.
Here's one of the side branches of the Hawaiian Snow under the LED at @ 1100 umol - its just a bit out of the light spread and looks just like my Hawaiian snow under the CFLs.
picture.php

Now here's the same plant, directly under the center of the LED @ 2500+ umol:
picture.php

The bud structure has entirely changed, the stretch is ridiculous, and the leaves start corkscrewing all over the place. This isn't isolated, as you'll see some of the other bud shots have more twisted leaves based on how much light they receive. :watchplant:

Holy Grail #1 got the chop at 80 days. The smoke from the lower branches is very destroyer "up" with the pain mitigating effects of harlequin. Considering my "selection" process, this little chucking experiment went very well. I expect to find better phenos than this one in the F1s and plan to make F2s based on how functional and fun the smoke is.

Dj Short's Flo is juuust about to start dropping pollen. My very Jamaican leaning Marley's Collie (Jamaican x Maple Leaf indy) has no idea whats about to hit her. I plan using this male to pollinate my female Flo which purples in veg to create "flamethrower" Flo f2s. We'll see how that works out.

Here's the flamethrower female in veg..

Great thread this one.
Impressive shots all over. Keep it up.
Just a minor observation, in my very reduced experience, i start pulling the best results from most of my strains only after my second run with cuttings from those strains.
Seedlings usually are healthier&stronger than cuttings, still don´t know why, but cuttings after a couple of runs tend to adapt to the specific conditions of my grow spaces and do better from then on. Do i make any sense?
Your views on this subject are giving me some ideas for the future, thanks for that!
Have a great weekend if possible.

Hey Paulo, thanks for the nice words. I think the real change is the grower/growing method itself. For instance, I will never use my sativa veg soil mix on flo again. All of my flos are torched and now are coming back from it, by comparison, my sativas barely turn blue in the same soil mix. So, my next run with Flo F2s will be done in mellow soil to keep from burning the tiny indica rootball.

I run my plants as if I was farming, breed the strong ones to each other, use the F2s or crosses for the next generation. Cuts require higher plant counts and if you like the cut that much, why not find a strong male and create a whole subset of prime genetics?

I don't mean to bash the process of saving cuts, I just don't think it's as necessary when you live in a medical state as you can go to any collective and pick up cuts anytime you want.

Besides, pollination is fun, easy & automatic! Cloning requires maintenance and extra work.

Trich - I'm glad you got everything setup and dialed in. Looking good in there. Glad you're thinking for yourself.
There were MANY who told me I wouldn't ever be able to grow with CFL. When that worked, they said it wouldn't be as potent as HPS. When it was, they said the size wouldn't ever increase. When it did, they said it wouldn't work for breeding. When I started making my own crosses with CFLs, they started running out of negative things to say... ;)

Now i got it and probably i would do the same.
Thanks for the enlightenment ;)

Much gratitude to you for posting this grow man! Liked your idea for those "spider lights" so much that I decided I'd use them on my grow. Problem is I don't know how to wire these things! Any chance you could post a picture or a diagram of how yours are done?

I'm assuming I need to connect all the black wires together then connect that to the black wire from my extension cord. How do I do this though? Will I be able to use one of those "caps" to join all 5 of these wires together?

Thanks man, and again kudos on a great setup and even better buds!

I don't have a diagram, but basically, you should have 2 wires leading from each one of the "heads" on the spider, one black, one white.

All of those join at the center. All of the blacks go together, all of the whites go together. Now using large wire nuts, take the lamp cord and use the smooth side of the lamp with the black, ribbed with the white. Use some electrical tape to clean up the wire connectors and you're set.

I've been looking for what is basically a terminal block which allows one connection at the end, with several "ports" to plug wire into. I will keep everyone abreast of anything neat I find.
