Imperial OG and It's Relatives

Fuckin awesome post Chimera!

I was at a prominent dispensary this past year looking for certain clones. After waiting in line for what seemed like all morning I finally get to the counter. I was blown away with the selection, I saw a lot of OG clones, trays of them. Everyone that knows me, knows that my favorite OG is the fire og(r-a-s-k-a-l's). Well this the one they had...supposedly. I asked the guy where they get their clones especially the fire og and he said and I quote, "we get the from r-a-s-k-a-l himself." I kinda chuckled and said ok and paused for a minute while I checked everything out. He then tried to further justify his statement that all the clones are true legit verified Fire OG. I sat there and picked the 2 or 3 trays outta of say maybe 7 or 8 of them that looked like fire og. He stepped back and said, "where are you from?" I told him and thats when the barrage of questions about OG started...

These dispensaries, even the biggest and best ones don't know shit about clones. Its sad really...

Nice post

Nice post

OG Kush is a philosophy, a way of life, a state of mind or even a state of being. It's a religion. It's grown past what was once a single plant, to a collection of unrelated hybrids, that don't necessarily even share the same/similar terpene profile.

I dont agree with this.

To me its like Skunk #1 with no background info, as in if you had a few phenos of Skunk #1 but there all just named Skunk, so you have Fire skunk, Tahoe skunk, Larry skunk, and San Fernando Valley skunk... Then you have the crosses like Sk#1 X Afghani, Sk#1 X Haze, Sk#1 X Sk#1/Haze, Sk#1 X Sk#1/Afghani, and so on... Plus the careless people who get a few random seeds in a nug or grow and think its the same as the cutting being grown... And all the names that come and add confusion... Add it all up and give it some years, before you know it you get an OG cluster fuck!

So will you donate your OG to the OG Kush DNA project? I'm going to let the DNA tell the story....

Bottom line, people lie, DNA does not.... so I want to let DNA have her voice in this whole debate. What do you think?

I'd also like to get your OG DNA in the test ring, if you would be willing to participate.

Respectfully,
-Chimera

What would be needed to collect the DNA? Live moist or dry dead plant matter? Where do we send the samples? I have a few OGs we can start this off with

I have no info on the history or how OG Kush came about... I was just very lucky to have been givin what I have :thank you:

Chimera thank you for your input and that excellent post. At first I feared this thread was going the way of many, but obviously theres lotus seeds in this mud :)

I think your DNA idea is absolutely fantastic. I support it 100%.

Thank you everyone for your inputs

I have been kinda curious...is an S1 identical to the plant it came from. No...right? How much difference is there normally?

Then you end up with S1s of S1s (is that how you say it). How diluted are those.

then you end with straight up lies.

In the end you just kinda gotta decide which cut you personally like the most and go with it.

Even with dna testing...what are you testing against. Is it even possible to identify original og dna. If you can't do that is dna testing gonna solve anything...or just dump fuel on the fire?

all i got to say is my og can beat up your og :)

I apologize for taking so long to respond. Life got in the way. I have 2 OGs I will gladly donate to your project. I would like to know how you are going to categorize all the different OGs you get. Are you testing to see if there is any Kush in OG Kush? Does Hindu Kush have genetic markers that distinguish it from other cultivars? Or are you just looking for the best representation of donated OG? How will you compare them?

Hi Sam,

Some S1's will be nearly identical reproductions of the parent, and some will not. It depends on the homozygosity of the parent used. If it is heterozygous at many loci the offspring will segregate and be variable. Each round of selfing will half the remaining heterozygous loci, so homozygosity comes about very quickly under selfing - approximately 3 times more rapidly than under any other selection method.

Yes, pick your clone and go with it is right, but how the hell do we know that it's our clone? I don't know about you guys but tested guaranteed germplasm sounds pretty friggin good to me, especially considering it was in my camp he refers to regarding these 20 some odd ft "OG's", lol. Some of these OG's perform very well in a broad range of environments but most do not. I've done quite a bit of research to find this out the hard way. And now when I know that OG cut (A) is the one that does well, I want to make damn sure I get that exact cut when I go to purchase, don't you? Wouldn't anybody? I think so. This is just one example of the value in what Chimera speaks of imo. -Tom

Great Idea chimera! I'd love to see the difference between the main OG cuts that have been passed around the boards for years. They're all so similar, yet noticeably different. The ghost, sfv, and Tahoe OG are my top favorites, in that order as far as OG goes. As far as I'm concerned, those are the true OG cuts. Let us know how we get our OG dna to you for testing.

What I'm using as a template is that those have been around by those names in the community for the longest time. Ive been on the forums for almost 10 years, this phenomenon of dozens of OGs just started in the last 4 or 5 of those. Before that almost all OG Kush posted on the boards was one of those 3.

And come on, everyone knows there's no "Kush" in the OG. There's nothing remotely Pakistani about the plants. So don't expect to trace the genes back to the Hindu Kush mountains, cause it's probably not from there.

I agree this is the commonly held notion. However, I do have an OG which directly contradicts this notion. It is a Hindu Kush bx and it smells, tastes, hits, and grows like a "true" OG. How weird is that?
