I used the same camera settings as I do for regular pics,
just some snot tape to fix the loupe over the lens.
Wouldn't focus with macro settings.

Well i got my Ebay macro lens today. I haven't spent much time playing with it yet. Doesn't seem to get in quite as close as I'd like but still it's probably worth every cent of $4.78AU including postage. 
The glass on my phone's camera is also scratched to hell which probably isn't helping.
