Hey all Great news another crazy big fat white go is goin to Jamaica!! Actually I'm not that fat... Anyway would love some travellers tips dos/donts etc... Of course common sense will rule the day but I dont want any tourist crap i want the real deal Mon! Im actually interested in what items the locals are looking for? I know that in foreign countries sometimes(more often than not) trade/barter system can yield better return and also develop some goodwill with some friendly people. Obviously it would need to be small items/clothes things that can be packed for air travel easily.I know clothes, rubber boots cassette tapes lotion/oils etc used to be hot items. What is needed nowadays?

Hey sqounk,
Blessings...Great idea of bringing things down with you. the first time I went I brought 20 soccer balls with me. I deflated them, and carried them with me. These were a big hit down there. Hell, they wanted my boots too...
I'm not sure about he items you listed...rubber boots, cassettes....eect. They sure as hell like seeds or even some grow books. People would love them.Hell, I've even brought cuts down with me, but I don't advise this. When was the last time you went down? You mentioned cassette tapes, what, was it before cd's? I would bring blank cd's, maybe. Or how about that old computer...laptops.
The main thing to bring is your good vibes. Alll else will fall into place.
I too am thinking of going down at the end of this month or begining of may. I would go to either the cliff side of nigril or the other side of the island, near port antonio. It's so beautiful over there...

I went to Jamaica two years ago for a week and had a great time.I stayed in Montego Bay at the All-Inclusive Holiday inn sunspree resort.Free alcoholic drinks and free food was the shit at the "barefoot bar'' on the resort.

Ganja and hash is every where. They would have bundles of buds a foot long and I could choose what I want. The best bud I had was really sweet smelling and when smoked in a joint with some hash I got really high. Also I would chill at the beach at night and smoke and that was a great feeling. The first bud I bought was when I got off the plane at the airport in jamaica. It was the lowest quality of the trip so you should probably wait till you get to your hotel.

I went during late may early june and there were a couple days when it stormed bad but other then that it was beautiful out.I went snorkeling in the ocean and saw all kinds of fish like puffer fish and an octopus and etc..

If you have the time go to "Mayfield falls" Its a cool maze of small waterfalls that you are guided through and I rolled up a bunch of joints beforehand and we would stop during the tour and smoke on small waterfalls. The current in the water at some spots in mayfield falls was like jets in a hot tub but the water was refreshingly cold.Anways just go their if you have the time because it was a great place.

The jerk chicken down there is the shit and I love seafood so that was good too.

Some pics of the trip.

yah mon, good times in Jamaica!
Negril will be relaxing for you, real local tourist spot. Jamaicans enjoy money, seen. Lots and lots of that real green cash, understand. This stuff can get you more than anything else in Jamaica and people are looking for that more than anything else. They like it when you buy things from them.
May sound funny but in Jamaica sugary foods are enjoyed by all the kids, cuz they don't get much of that stuff or are not allowed to eat it by their parents...what i mean is when i'm there i take frosted flakes cerel and things like that from the hotels and give them to school kids that we pick up(when we run into them) and drive to and from school, it's re-assuring and entertaining to watch them eat it quick before they get to school or home, reminds me of me...
Anyways, what me say...
Make good with a trusted cab driver, they will take you places to see the real Jamaica youre after. Sometimes hard to enjoy though cuz real Jamaica is rough and tough. Make sure to negotiate prices before exchanging or getting involved with anything. If you decide to purchase herb, inspect it as much as you can, do not be intimidated, and do not buy pre-rolled herb, if you do then break it open and re-roll it yourself.
No matter what you will be all good if you remember to SMILE!!!!!
