If you were going to re-Breed Skunk or White Widow from original seedlines

I've been thinking of a skunk repro at some point myself. I'd be using cannabiogen red snake as the sativa and then indica would be selected from a few afghan lines I've got - ak f2, afghan hashplant x ak, tirah and sholgara. I'm testing some of the Ak crosses at the moment, so far they're hard to germ.

Plan would be - oaxacan pheno red snake x afghan then crossed back to the Colombian leaning side of the snake.

I'm waiting to see how my Afghans come out - if any even make it above the soil - because the crosses I've tried with the same dad on other lines have been kind of flat. Not bad, or even weak, but just kind of not great I guess. If this lot aren't going to be worth exploring, I'll move on to the landrace lines, although they will likely have their own issues as well. Back up is some northern lights I could use but they're fems.

Isn't skunk (colombian x A.G) x Afghan, the Afghan being introduced later on?

I mean it's basically a Haze x Afghan of sorts isn't it?

Afghan (DC) x Haze f1...again,nothing to do with Skunk#1 :)

For skunk it's not so easy to rebreed imo.
Iirc skunk is ((columbian x mazar) x (mazar x columbian))f2 x acapulco gold.

You could just get ancestral skunk and breed from it what you want and like as thats the base used to start the dutch work...
If you know what your doing you could even make a ibl Acapulco gold phenotypes and ibl Colombian gold/afghan phenotype from it.. And reintroduce them together later.

My understanding is that Skunk# 1 is a very stable F1 hybrid. I just ordered Skunk #1 regular seeds to grow in Verde Valley In hopes of making a few seeds. According to a plant geneticist source, with a stable F1 you can count on a few generations of inbreeding before getting some genetic drift occurring. But maybe that wouldn‘t be so bad with strains that have a landrace heritage. Old school breeding methods; let your plants develop genetics that thrive in their environment.

SKUNK ==>
"The Skunk marijuana is a poly hybrid between two Sativa landraces - Colombian Gold and Acapulco Gold - and an Afghani Indica purebred"

So it would be ( Colombian Sativa x Afghani ) x Acapulco Sativa
OR
( Acapulco Sativa x Afghani ) x Colombian Sativa
to get the 75% Sativa, 25% Indica balance.

WHITE WIDOW ==>
"Brazilian Sativa × South Indian Indica"

re-breeding Skunk seems rather straightforward. Once you cross the other Sativa with the Sativa-Indica mix, basically you give it some time.

But what would you do if you wanted to re-create the White Widow, to follow Shantibaba's footsteps ?

the Sativa - Indica cross reminds me of other powerful strains -
Haze x Northern Lights
Sativa Afghani Growth Experiment (SAGE from TH Seeds)
Blue Dream, Haze x Blueberry

Those are all great crosses. I guess you'd have to see them side by side.

I remember White Widow as being extra frosty when I got it from Brothers Grimm.

Could you get that to the White Widow, without using the Brazilian Sativa, South Indian Indica that Shantibaba used ?
I could have sworn SAGE was Sativa Afghani Genetic Equilibrium.

I think we're in a make-your-own-skunk phase, as opposed to tomb raiding jaja

So much bullshit around skunk and or skunk #1.

None of the stories add up. Lots of different phenos of the original skunky skunk too.

So who truely knows

mm

I agree , there’s a lot of BS about the strains that the seed banks are selling. What is Skunk anyway? The genetics from the original breeders are probably so diluted by now and who knows what is what. What I’m looking for is simple genetics/ parentage. I believe that the less parentage, the simpler the strain genetics. That could be said for any plant product. A F1 hybrid is a F1 hybrid, be it tomatoes or weed. As a small home grower, my goal is to grow the phenos that produce the qualities that I‘m looking for and try to replicate that in future generations . As seeds approach the $10 per seed market, producing my own seeds makes sense. I don’t need that many seeds.
Make your own seeds and call the plants it whatever the fuck you want to call it.

Joey Weed has the original White Widow genetics from 90s Greenhouse Seeds, and its killer. Available at Hemp Depot.
He also has the original 90s AK47. which I like better than White Widow. And they are both on $50 a pack. Katsu got some of these seeds and from what I understand it going to pheno hunt them, and reintroduce his selected line in the fall.

And not that Ilike the guy much personally. Authentic Genetics has Sk1 straight from Mel Frank, and its only been bred 2x since 1988. Mel got the seeds straight from Skunkman in 1988.

Ive grown out all 3 of these strains, and there is some super good weed to be found in all of them. Keepers to be found. Im especially fond of the Ak47. Wanna talk about stinking??? You can smell this shit growing down the block, and will get your ass busted if youre in an unfriendly state, and have neighbors. Im in the hills of east kentucky, in the middle of nowhere. No neighbors for over a mile. The AK47 we have smells like floral catpiss, and honeysuckle, and has a floral taste, and aniseed. Especially aniseed on a dry toke. Makes a lot of people paranoid as hell, and heavy duty anxiety attack. Its as good as anything out there.

I was just eyeballing the Kalishnikova, AK47 x White Widow, from Greenhouse I think.

The crossing of two completely different parents is key when finding a cross like the above. In my opinion, the Sativa landrace's original reason for breeding with an Afghani Indica purebred was to shorten the flowering time of the long-season Sativas'. To everyone's surprise, the weed was a killer potent strain. After the first White Widow cross everyone started crossing Sativa X Indica. Today there are over 28,366 crosses or strains registered @ seedfinder.
Is Cindy Haze one of them? My little experiment looks like Mom, so far.

Them Eastern KY hills sound nice Mr Fripp. Patty Loveless sings a song about Harlan.

I personally wouldnt buy the Greenhouse. They are not the same genetics as the Joey Weed. White Widow genetics come from when Shantibaba was still are greenhouse. These, and the Serious Seeds AK47 are the best F2 reproductions your most likely to find.

Lots of wild shit in my neck of the woods. Many musicians come from this part of the country.
One of my buddies, though 8 years older than me was the lead singer for several rock bands. One of them being The Joe Perry Project.
His name is Ralph Morman. He was the first singer for Perry in Let the Music Do the Talking. He also sang for Bux, Angel, and Savoy Brown. He was a wild one.
On Joe Perrys first solo tour Ralph was an hour late for a gig.
Of course they offered Ralph a ride in a Limo to the gig, and he turned it down. So he ended up hitchhiking to the gig, and they tracked him down, 100 miles away, on the side of the highway drinking, and snorting coke.
So they sent a helicopter out to get Ralph. It was a bad way to start a tour. Joe Perrys wife was so mad at Ralph that she gave him an ultimatum. 3 strikes and you out, and you just used one of them. Needless to say he got the 3 strikes and replaced him Joe Perry says Ralph was the 2nd best Rock singer to Steven Tyler. Of really nither one of them is my preferred sound.

Billy Ray Cyrus is also from the local area, about 6 miles from me, and Im friends with him, and his brother Kevin. Billy started out as a rocker, and he and his brother had a band. The Judds lived on the other side of a park from me, and they eventually moved the whole house just a block away from me. That would have been Naomis mother. That was in the 90s.
A buddy of mines little brother is a famous pedal steel player in Nashville. Though I havent seen my buddy in years. Probably doesnt live around here anymore, or could have passed on. But his little brother Timmy played Banjo for The Fralie Family in the 70s when he was 8 years old Mt Fralie was 2x Nation Fiddle Champ in the 70s, 2 years in a row. They are Bluegrass, Which I prefer over modern country. Though like my avatar. Im a Hendrx type listener. But Timmy can play a bunch of instruments but his main one is pedal steel. He is highly sought after as a session musician.
Randy Skaggs is from 20 miles away. Tom T Hall. Dwight and Keith Whitly.
But now we have a Meth, and Fentanyl/Heroin plague.
