Yeah, I caught this a few hours ago. Pretty sad but not surprising. Disconcerting there hasn't been a larger out cry against the Supreme Court's handling of this decision considering all the recent media hysteria over judicial activisim. Overturning 100 years of written law without precedent sounds like activism to me.

Thanks Owl for sharing.

The grassroots movement that elected Obama scared the wealthy powers that be.

So they took steps to prevent any further movements by the people.

Our government has not worked for the people in many years. It's a government of the corp, by the corp, for the corp.

Cruelty and greed is their religion. We are expendable.

Perhaps you are unaware this ruling overturned 103 years of precedence? Perhaps you are unaware this ruling overturned McCain-Feingold ?

You like to talk a big talk but, it's obvious you don't have a clue as to the reach and scope of this decision.
Perhaps you should actually READ the ruling before you go dismissing it out of hand ?

Mccain didn't even follow his own rules during the last election so overturning something that the co-writer doesn't even care to follow isn't that big a deal.

As far as obama vs. mccain on the money spent. Of course the government fronted money for mccain, he is PRO WAR which is allowing us to do the bullshit that we currently are doing. As far as the universities being the so called top contributors, there is also a solid reason for that to make sense as well. Get to the students and you end up getting more following the rules and guidelines easier.

Most of those top colleges are the ones who are churning out these shitty politicians and with obamacare and everything else that is getting socialized then what better means than to have it through the colleges where it is easier to target large groups of the next "great political figures".

No matter what, complaining about obama versus mccain or republican versus democrat is a bullshit statement. It is parting lines for americans WHEN we should have ONE party alone. The constitution has now turned into "Recommendations" of what we should do when it should be the guidelines.

When it says the right to bear arms, then that is a RIGHT and not something that should be considered. When taxes MUST be outlined as to what they are paying (versus it paying for our wars) for so there is actual accountability.

Dems and Repubs BOTH fuck us politically, economically, medically and especially socially.

Name any other country that simply goes to war non stop with as many countries as possible? Also what gets solved when a "mechanic" from the U.S.A. kills a farmer from another country? That is pretty much all war is now adays. None of us fighting and killing each other will make any difference as far as rights, laws, rules or anything BUT people still go to war fighting for policies that their death WILL NEVER CHANGE.

Our government has been bought out for A LONG TIME. Once we lost sound money that was actually backed by something, introduced taxes, stock market "stabilization" just to name a few. Corps have been buying elections since they begun and that will never change. Sure now they can be more open about it BUT what does it really do for us?

We post up the contribution lists, bitch and moan about how this government agency gave this person money and this college did this. What does our complaints or rants accomplish? Almost as much as us picking up guns and killing people in other countries under the delusion that we are actually fighting for a cause.

I think the only way to have elections FAIR would be to NOT allow ANY money to be given. The tv stations should air each candidate equally and actually leave it up to the people to decide VERSUS getting caught up in "we need change" bullshit or "we have to fight for our freedom because we are AT WAR!!!".

Money makes the world go round and if it is profitable enough then losing some of us "citizens" is odds are something they could give two shits about.

Let the corps buy them, hell let them spend as much money on our campaigns as possible. Blow the money for all I care, it in the end is up to the working and voting class to wake up and STOP THIS SHIT. Until that happens all we will be doing is whining and crying about stuff that is wrong.

For not getting any money from the military obama sure is doing a great job "ending that war" he talked so strongly about. What a joke.

With gov't taking over or at least obtaining a leading influence in the largest national companies via the "bailout" bullshit, it would seem this decision essentially allows the incumbent regime to pay itself unlimited funds from stockholder's investments in order to keep itself going. Another way for Big Gov't to direct/re-direct private $ to its coffers without calling it "taxation."

The keys to the America we used to know are being handed over to the very few, very wealthy, elite who we "elect" to screw us.

One point I believe has been overlooked is, MULTINATIONAL Corporations are now allowed to influence our elections.
To those who say we can't change anything, how will you like America when the Chinese or Israel, or any other foreign government financially supporting their candidate of choice? To do their bidding on their behalf?

As it stands, these corporations do not even have to disclose their activity.
This ruling now allows foreign governments the ability to manipulate and even replace our form of government.

Dude, I thought we had some good ideas in that thread. I can't believe it got deleted.

I just want to point out something. The US was sick and tired of the bullshit and lies the Bush administration was dishing out, they thought they were voicing their frustrations by voting in "Change". Everyone wanted things to change. The problem is Bush handed the baton to Obama and the bullshit and lies continue under a fresh face. Now people are noticing that "Change" isn't the change they wanted. So now people are voting in more republicans into the senate thinking this will help. Wake up America! The Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same coin that was minted by the private federal reserve bank.

Owl,
Multi Nationals have been influencing American politics for decades, this is nothing new. Viet Nam was all about Boeing, McDonnel Douglas, United Tech, IBM, and the list goes on...

China influences our money policy by holding 2 trillion in US bonds.

As far as Israel, duh..

Apathy is the cancer of the American political system and will only change when there is no longer a financial benefit to obtaining office.

Free speech for persons is allowed corporations ?
This is as it should be IMO. And in fact am amazed it was ever thought to be different.
Jesus! So what? This changes what?
The videos the text of the link are just alarmist bullshit.
Corporations running America? This is news?

Move along folks nothing new here. Just some moer rhetoric for the fire. means fuck-all. Some one declared any juristic entity is entitled the same rights as any other? And this cause for alarm? Fuckig whingers. I am always amazed at people that demand freedoms as long as they fit their own personal mold. Sorry folks. This is just a fact of life, changes nothing. Rep Alan Grayson needs a few lessons in civic IMO.

I guess that it's OK for NORML to have it own freedom of speech but not Ford Motor Company? Bullshit. I am moe irritated that my government had to waste the taxpayers money to argue, debate then decide something that was crystal clear in the first place. The people you disagree with have the same rights as you. Deal with it. Just because they have more money is no excuse to gag them.

Quoted for truthiness and general perspective. Someone having or not having money is NOT relavant to whether or not they get free speech.

Hey Owl. You are preachin' the truth. Others have stated some pretty obvious facts too. It's a sad state of affairs in the good ol' U.S. of A. these days, but it's been a long time comin' and it's only gonna get worse before and if it ever gets any better. Sure, some are cowards, but there are others, like me, who are simply tired, tired of fighting, tired of talking, tired of posting, tired of writing letters and emails and making calls to elected officials and tired of showing up to vote at every frickin' election. I might not feel so tired if I saw some results, but I don't. Nothing has gotten any better. I've been doing this for quite awhile now...like 30+ years. I'm just ready to leave. No place is perfect, I know this, but other places in the world offer more things to meet my needs than this place does. I'll always love USA, but I'm mighty tired of it and all of its BS too! :dunno: Vive la France! :artist: LOL

Instead, you take the position of the perjuring and abusive cops. Then you add insult to injury and neg rep me. My first neg rep.

Practice what you preach dude.

You didn't sit on your hands...you got up and used them...to help beat me down..with the police and government

Good try though Owl... you showed your true colors.

We now have a large federal government apparatus readily available to large corporations. The combination of the two is a poison pill for what is left of the Constitution IMO. It's a two head monster that we've let get out of control and now it's formally one giant monstrosity.

The founders envisioned a small government such that Federal policy could not be hijacked by monetized institutions and consolidated within the hands of a few. That is the premise of a Republic. This is Corporate Governance.

Power becomes consolidated within the hands of even fewer now. History books are be written during these trying times for us all. From cannabis legalization to this.

I'm unsure what you are attempting to claim.
Are you claiming that our current President was bought by Corporate America ?

Just randomly popped in to the thread and thought I should post the complete list of Obama's contributions from your link, not sure why it was truncated and McCain's was complete.

Note: I am not making any claims or involving myself in this discussion, simply posting this as I thought it might have been an accidental omission, if I missed the point or something, sorry, adios. :)

This table lists the top donors to this candidate in the 2008 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate , rather the money came from the organization's PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.
Because of contribution limits, organizations that bundle together many individual contributions are often among the top donors to presidential candidates. These contributions can come from the organization's members or employees (and their families). The organization may support one candidate, or hedge its bets by supporting multiple candidates. Groups with national networks of donors - like EMILY's List and Club for Growth - make for particularly big bundlers.

Those in power will become the authors of those History books.

Yep, the winner always writes the text books. Hmmmm.....

awsome so nothing has changed.....

Yes, this does change things. It use to have to be done behind closed doors. Now the corruption can be legally overt. Big, big difference. Supreme Court decisions always have historical ramifications. I expect this to be no different and not in a good way.
